Chapter Sixty-Three: Turning Over a New Leaf
Long Fei was momentarily stunned. “Why should I follow you?”
To be honest, Ye Qian had thought last night that Long Fei was worried about her and had secretly protected her all the way. Though she kept a stern face, she was actually a little moved inside. But now, seeing Long Fei deny it outright, and finding no trace of insincerity in his eyes, she felt a bit disappointed once more.
“So who was it that saved me last night?” Ye Qian was puzzled. Could Long Fei have accomplices? Who exactly was he? How could he be so skilled, and have such formidable allies? Could he be an assassin too?
“You don’t need to worry about who saved you. Anyway, I’ll be responsible for your safety. Now, I need to get to class. Are you coming?” Long Fei checked the time; it was almost time for class. Thinking of Liu Ruoyi, he felt impatient to get to the classroom. Would that girl, like yesterday, help him wipe his desk clean again?
Ye Qian didn’t understand why Long Fei’s gaze suddenly became so wistful. She glared at him fiercely and said, “Of course I’m coming. Let’s go!”
After greeting Yang Danni, Long Fei left with Ye Qian. On the way, Ye Qian remained silent, occasionally smiling to herself, which made Long Fei feel uneasy again. Truth be told, Ye Qian was becoming more and more difficult for Long Fei to read. It hadn’t been that long, but she was completely different from when they first met. To put it nicely, she had changed a lot; less nicely, she was capricious.
Long Fei hurried to leave after parking the car, but Ye Qian grabbed him. Seeing Long Fei’s odd look, she quickly let go and lowered her head, suddenly whispering, “This afternoon, let me treat you to dinner outside.”
Long Fei was taken aback. What was wrong with this girl? Was she planning some new way to torment him?
“Look, Ye Qian, I’m telling you, don’t try to get revenge on me anymore. You’ve seen it yourself—every time you try, you never succeed. Rather than keep trying, why not just give up? I promise, from now on, I’ll stay out of your business, except for your safety. We’ll mind our own affairs, alright?” Long Fei was almost pleading with her—not because he was truly afraid of Ye Qian, but because he was eager to enjoy life, chase after pretty girls, and simply had no time or energy to spar with Ye Qian.
Ye Qian’s face turned pale with anger. She pointed at Long Fei and protested, “Who said I’m trying to get revenge? I told you, I have something serious to discuss with you. Why are you like this? Please, can’t you just help me? I truly have something important to talk to you about, alright?”
Sweat dripped from Long Fei’s forehead—Ye Qian was actually clinging to his arm and acting coquettishly. This was totally unexpected, and because Ye Qian suddenly spoke so nicely, Long Fei actually stopped doubting her. Given her personality, this was absolutely impossible unless she really needed something from him. But what could it be?
“Stop shaking me, it’s embarrassing if others see. They’ll misunderstand.” Long Fei tried to pull his arm back, thinking it best not to get too close to the little witch. You never knew when she might explode at you. Though his shoulder wound had long since healed, once bitten, he’d naturally be wary of Ye Qian for a whole year.
“No, I won’t let go. If you don’t agree, I’ll keep holding onto you all the way to your class. I’ll let Liu Ruoyi see us and make her furious!” Ye Qian shamelessly threatened, startling Long Fei into surrender.
“I agree, I agree, alright?” Long Fei raised both hands in surrender—there was simply no other way out.
Ye Qian finally released him, calling after his retreating figure with a triumphant smile, “Long Fei, remember—tonight it can only be the two of us. If you dare call anyone else, I’ll move in with you tonight and never leave!”
A naked threat. But why were so many people casting ambiguous, sympathetic glances at him?
Long Fei wished for a hole to crawl into and dashed off faster than a rabbit.
Ye Qian hummed a tune as she entered her classroom. The instructor hadn’t arrived yet. She saw Sister Feng and Li Yan whispering together and beckoned them over.
“Boss, what’s up?” Seeing Ye Qian in a good mood today, Sister Feng got excited, thinking Ye Qian wanted her help in stirring up trouble again.
Ye Qian spoke seriously, “I’m telling you both something important. I’ve decided—from today on, I’m washing my hands of all this and leaving the underworld behind.”
“What do you mean?” Sister Feng’s eyes widened.
“Just wait!” Ye Qian frowned at Sister Feng, then ran up to the podium and slapped the desk loudly.
When Ye Qian stood at the podium, she really didn’t need to slap the desk; everyone was already afraid to speak. All the students stared at this sister of the Pink Army, wondering what new trick she had up her sleeve to torment the instructor. Ye Qian had done such things many times before.
“Classmates, I have an announcement to make. Starting today, the Pink Army is officially disbanded. I, Ye Qian, am washing my hands clean and will be a good person from now on. If I’ve offended anyone in the past, please forgive me. I hope we can all get along well in the future!” Ye Qian said, beaming.
But the students below didn’t quite believe her. The change was too sudden, and nobody trusted it.
Seeing their lack of reaction, Ye Qian knew it was hard for them to accept or believe her sincerity. She could only force a bitter smile. “I’m really sincere. Please believe me, truly.”
No one stared at Ye Qian as if she were a monster anymore. A timid boy asked, “Are you really going to get along with us? You won’t hit anyone anymore?”
“No, absolutely not. No matter what happens, I won’t hit anyone again—it’s so uncivilized.” Her words sounded a bit cheesy, but the boy seemed quite excited.
“Ye Qian, I’ve wanted to pursue you for ages—can I chase after you now?” The boy, probably a bookworm, peered at Ye Qian through thick glasses.
Ye Qian’s face suddenly turned green, but she desperately restrained her urge to hit him. After some time, she forced a smile. “Wen Bo, I won’t hit anyone, but you’d better not say things like that to me again. I won’t hit you, but I’m afraid someone else will!”
Sister Feng was feeling gloomy, but hearing this, she immediately understood Ye Qian’s meaning. She picked up a book and smacked Wen Bo on the head, yelling, “Wen Bo, are you out of your mind, daring to chase after our boss!”
Wen Bo fell silent, not daring to speak again, while Ye Qian tried to play the good guy. “Mi Feng, I told you, I’m turning over a new leaf. Don’t hit people—it’s so uncivilized. And I’m not your boss anymore. Remember that!”
Sister Feng sat down with a sullen face, while Li Yan chuckled. Honestly, though she was part of the Pink Army, she rarely joined Ye Qian’s mischief—except for that one time with Long Fei, but that was because Ye Qian forced her. So hearing Ye Qian vow to change, she felt genuinely happy for her.
The instructor entered the room, saw Ye Qian at the podium, and felt uneasy, wanting to retreat but not wanting to lose face. He remembered all the times Ye Qian had teased and bullied him and was truly at a loss.
Looking at this tall, robust man who was so afraid of her, Ye Qian felt some contempt. But since she was now committed to reform, she couldn’t be as fierce as before. She gave the instructor a polite smile. “Hello, Professor Wang. Sorry for delaying your lesson. I’ll step down now.”
Professor Wang was stunned and sweat trickled down his brow. Good heavens, was he seeing ghosts today? Ye Qian actually spoke to him so gently?
This was not normal—absolutely not normal!
Seeing Professor Wang’s incredulous expression, Ye Qian wanted to remove her shoe and smack him with it. But remembering her resolve to be a good student, she had to swallow her annoyance and lower her head. Out of sight, out of mind.
