Chapter Forty-Six: Dogs Fighting—A Spectacle to Behold
Long Fei brought Liu Ruoyi to the second-floor hall, where Ye Qian had already ordered a whole table of dishes. She seemed to have little appetite, resting her chin in her hands, lost in thought. When she saw Long Fei and Liu Ruoyi arrive together, she immediately waved and smiled, “Over here, time to eat.”
The two sat down. Liu Ruoyi was still full of smiles, calm and composed, gentle as water, which made Long Fei feel content. In truth, being with such a girl was the least troublesome; though they were curious, they would never bombard a man with too many questions, only silently watching with their bright eyes.
Five dishes and a soup—Long Fei nodded in approval, not particularly extravagant.
“Why did you two take so long to come up? What were you talking about back there?” Ye Qian asked with a curious smile.
Long Fei chuckled, “Your girlfriends were asking me what was up with you today—why you were so distant, saying you’re not like your usual self.”
“And what did you tell them?” Ye Qian kept smiling.
Long Fei shot a peculiar smile at Liu Ruoyi, who frowned gently and shook her head.
“Forget it, I’d rather not say. Ruoyi doesn’t want me to,” Long Fei obediently shut his mouth.
But Ye Qian wasn’t pleased. She insisted that Long Fei tell, pressing Liu Ruoyi as well, “You’ve only just started dating him, and already you’re so strict? Men never like it when their women control them too tightly, remember that!”
Liu Ruoyi couldn’t help but nod, then suddenly blushed, trying to explain, “He and I are just friends, really, don’t misunderstand.”
“Misunderstand? Then let him speak!” Ye Qian stared at Liu Ruoyi, dissatisfied.
Liu Ruoyi, having already heard from her roommates about how formidable the Pink Army was, felt a bit intimidated facing Ye Qian and dared not argue. She could only frown and say, “Whether he says it or not is up to him—I didn’t tell him not to!”
“You heard her, Long Fei. She wants you to speak!” Ye Qian looked at Long Fei triumphantly.
“You’re the one forcing me, so I’ll really say it. But you can’t get mad at me afterwards!” Long Fei warned solemnly.
The more Long Fei acted this way, the more curious Ye Qian became. She quickly promised, “Go ahead, I won’t get angry.”
“I said, I thought maybe you were having your period, so you weren’t in a good mood!” Long Fei instinctively edged his chair back.
“Long Fei, you—” Ye Qian leapt to her feet.
Long Fei quickly waved his hands, “You promised not to get angry, and you made me say it. If you get angry, that’s not my problem!”
“Fine, I won’t. I really won’t!” Ye Qian, who had already stood up, surprisingly sat back down, closed her eyes, and took several deep breaths.
This time, Long Fei treated both girls equally, serving them each a bowl of soup and some dishes. Unfortunately, his attentive hospitality couldn’t dispel the rather gloomy atmosphere.
With a little time left for a midday nap, Long Fei planned to escort Liu Ruoyi back to her dorm before heading out for a walk. He had nothing else to do; he didn’t live on campus and was considering renting an apartment nearby—then he could indulge in things best kept secret at noon. As for with whom, Long Fei hadn’t decided, but he was sure it wouldn’t be long before he found someone.
Ye Qian seemed determined to stick with Long Fei, even if he was only escorting Liu Ruoyi back. She was like a persistent third wheel, always at Long Fei’s side.
Passing the sports field, they reached the artificial lake, then a bamboo grove, and beyond that was Liu Ruoyi’s dormitory.
Because the three had gone to the cafeteria late, the campus was nearly deserted when they came out.
Just as they reached the edge of the bamboo grove, Long Fei frowned and stopped. Liu Ruoyi, lost in thought, walked straight into Long Fei’s back, her soft chest pressed against him. Startled, she quickly stepped back, blushing and flustered, “What’s wrong? Why did you stop? Maybe you guys should just leave me here—I can go back by myself.”
Long Fei turned to see both girls looking at him curiously. He smiled, “It’s not that I wanted to stop—if I hadn’t, someone else wouldn’t get their chance.”
“What chance? Long Fei, don’t be cryptic. If something’s up, just say it—trying to act mysterious?” Ye Qian complained, impatient as always.
Long Fei turned toward a corner of the bamboo grove and smiled, “Ding Liujun, come out. Since you’re here, why hide?”
Upon hearing Ding Liujun’s name, Ye Qian felt nothing, but Liu Ruoyi was startled and quickly moved closer to Long Fei. As soon as she shifted, she realized it was inappropriate, so she stopped, nervously watching the grove.
Ding Liujun emerged from the bamboo with a look of resentment, followed by three tall boys, each at least six feet. Clearly, he had brought them as muscle to get revenge on Long Fei. Yet, as the three came out, their expressions were awkward, and they kept glancing at Ye Qian beside Long Fei.
“Kid, I didn’t expect you to be so sharp, figuring out it was me. Now, can you guess what’s about to happen to you?” Ding Liujun, confident of victory, even cast a few lingering glances at Liu Ruoyi behind Long Fei. Unfortunately, Liu Ruoyi didn’t even spare him a look, which only fueled Ding Liujun’s hatred. To him, it was all Long Fei’s fault.
Last time, he hadn’t really believed Long Fei was Liu Ruoyi’s boyfriend—he knew Liu Ruoyi too well. But today, seeing Long Fei and Liu Ruoyi together in the cafeteria, acting so close, and watching Long Fei serve her food and soup, jealousy burned within him. He quickly enlisted a few seniors to ambush Long Fei in the bamboo grove, hoping to teach him a lesson.
Long Fei chuckled, “Of course I can figure it out. But judging by your fortune today, things won’t go well for you, and your friends won’t have it any better.”
Before Ding Liujun could respond, the three boys behind him hurriedly declared with awkward smiles, “We’re not with him—we’re just passing by.”
Passing by? Isn’t that just a cover for being dragged along for nothing?
Long Fei was taken aback. Ding Liujun was startled and panicked, turning to them, confused, “What? Didn’t we agree—one hundred each, to help me teach him a lesson?”
One of the boys grimaced, “But who knew you’d mess with Qian’s friend? A hundred yuan, ten thousand—even if you offered us that, we wouldn’t dare go against Qian. Isn’t that right, Qian?”
“Who’s Qian?” Ding Liujun was bewildered.
One boy slapped Ding Liujun across the face, leaving a clear handprint.
Long Fei was amused—what a scene, dog bites dog, entertaining indeed.
