“How should I know? The answer is written all over your face. I simply cannot understand why, with so many men who like you, you insist on liking him. I cannot see a single good quality in him. In all this time, apart from bringing you a rose that was already nearly wilted the first time he came here, he has never shown up again. I even wonder whether he truly loves you, cares about you, or has any concern for you at all!”

Wen Qi looked through every flower card, and sure enough, there was none from Long Fei. Ever since Long Fei had successfully captured Yang Danni’s heart, Wen Qi had been secretly keeping track of his news. Thinking of how Long Fei had actually been intimate with Yang Danni in this very office right in front of her last time, she felt rather annoyed. She even harbored a small grudge against him and found him vaguely distasteful. She was certain of her guess: Long Fei must have done something improper to Yang Danni back then, otherwise Yang Danni’s face would never have been so flushed.

Yang Danni’s expression darkened slightly as she stared calmly at Wen Qi. “You wouldn’t understand. When you fall in love with a man someday, you’ll know why. True love has no reason. Besides, not every woman has the chance to experience his better qualities. As far as I am concerned, I do not even demand that he spend his whole life devoted only to me. As long as I can remain with him for the rest of my life, that alone would be my greatest happiness and fulfillment.”

By the time she finished speaking, Yang Danni’s complexion had brightened, and a blissful smile gradually appeared on her face.

Wen Qi turned her head. Seeing Yang Danni’s dreamy expression, she asked in surprise, “Danni, don’t tell me he has other women outside. I’ll be furious with you!”

Yang Danni smiled faintly. “I never said that. But I am prepared for the possibility. These days, such things are hardly unusual. Besides, even if it were true, why are you getting so worked up?”

“Danni, you are not only the idol of countless men—you are my idol too. Do you know that you are the perfect example of the ideal woman in my eyes? I am still far inferior to you, but I have always regarded you as my role model and tried to become more like you. Good heavens, possessing you should be the greatest honor of his life, yet he keeps other women on the side? I—I could kill him!”

The more Wen Qi spoke, the angrier she became. It was as though she were watching the most beautiful flower in the world being plucked by Long Fei, that scoundrel, then casually tossed aside. Or as if she were watching a magnificent head of cabbage being trampled by a pig. Even if it had been trampled, that would not have been the end of the world—but this particular beast had taken only a few bites before losing interest. Was that not the very definition of someone who had no idea how fortunate he was?

A man like that deserved to be killed!

“Then go kill him. He’s here!”

Yang Danni suddenly rose to her feet. Without another word to Wen Qi, she headed straight for the door. At the distant elevator entrance, Long Fei was making his way toward them with a beaming smile.

He was not actually smiling at Yang Danni’s office, however, because from where he was, he could not see what was happening inside. His lecherous eyes had already been drawn to another voluptuous and beautiful woman who had just stepped out of the elevator with him.

“You see? Didn’t I tell you he was no good?” Wen Qi watched Long Fei’s behavior and clicked her tongue indignantly on Yang Danni’s behalf.

Unfortunately, the person involved did not take it to heart at all. If Long Fei had not behaved that way, it would have been more abnormal.

Wen Qi felt certain that Yang Danni must have been fed some sort of love potion by Long Fei. Otherwise, how could such a perfect woman have become like this? Could it really be as Yang Danni had said—that love itself was a dose of poison, and that one either refrained from tasting it or possessed the courage of a moth flying into a flame?

If that was truly the case, Wen Qi thought it would be best if she never fell in love with any man. Yet when she remembered that her mother had called her more than once to urge her to find a good man and get married, she felt that refusing marriage was unrealistic. It seemed she would follow in Yang Danni’s footsteps sooner or later.

With a sigh, Wen Qi realized that she had indeed been worrying too much. Yang Danni herself had said nothing, so why was she getting so anxious? Besides, Yang Danni had never claimed that Long Fei really did have other women outside. Wen Qi did not believe it herself, so why did she keep trying to speak ill of him?

Was it possible that she truly was prejudiced against Long Fei, just as Yang Danni had said? But why would she be prejudiced against him?

After thinking it over, Wen Qi understood. It all went back to that chance encounter the last time.

She gave a cold snort. Seeing the lascivious expression on Long Fei’s face, she cursed him inwardly as a lecher and hurried to her feet, preparing to leave. She looked around carefully once more, making certain that she had not forgotten anything, and only then walked toward the door.

After running into a lecher like Long Fei, Wen Qi felt that keeping as far away from him as possible was probably the most effective solution.

As usual, Long Fei produced a rose from behind his back. The flower still looked somewhat wilted. With an aggrieved smile, he said, “Danni, I swear I’m telling the truth. When I stole this flower from the shop just now, it was still fresh and dewy, as beautiful as you. How did it become like this in such a short time? I suppose the flowers at that shop really weren’t very good. And those two security guards didn’t help matters. I didn’t give them cigarettes, so they deliberately held me up, making me register and fill out forms. Aren’t they annoying?”

Yang Danni accepted the rather pitiful-looking rose with a radiant smile and welcomed Long Fei inside. She did not care where the flower had come from. As long as it had been given to her by Long Fei, she liked it. Her feelings were really that simple.

Wen Qi, who was trying to escape the scene, meanwhile wanted nothing more than to kick Long Fei from the building and watch him fall to his death.

If he was not going to give her flowers, so be it. But if he did give her flowers, he should at least bring a whole bouquet—that would have been presentable. Even if he gave her only a single rose, she could forgive him. But it should at least have been fresh. She could forgive him again if it were slightly wilted, but he should have bought it properly from a shop.

Yet what did he do? He stole it!

And even if he had stolen it, did he really have to announce it himself?

Wen Qi therefore decided that Long Fei was shameless in a way that surpassed all reason. In her opinion, a man like him deserved to remain single for the rest of his life.

In reality, however, Long Fei was not only far from single—he had even managed to make an exceptional beauty like Yang Danni devoted to him. This left Wen Qi deeply unbalanced. She also felt that there was something dangerous about him.

What was it? A beautiful and seductive poppy flower—no, he was not beautiful in the slightest. In any case, as far as Wen Qi was concerned, Long Fei was absolutely not someone one should become involved with. One careless step, and Yang Danni’s fate would become a cautionary tale. The lesson was painfully clear.

“But it doesn’t matter,” Long Fei said with a shameless grin. “No matter how beautiful a flower may be, it still cannot compare with our Danni, right?”

When Wen Qi saw Yang Danni blush all the way to her neck, her eyes filled with tender affection, she nearly felt like dying. The contempt in her gaze toward Long Fei grew even stronger.

Good heavens! How could a man be so utterly shameless? How could he be so brazen?

No, she could not stay another second or she would throw up. Wen Qi hurried to leave, but the moment she moved, Long Fei called out to her.

Long Fei acted as though he had only just noticed her. With a sly chuckle, he said, “Hello. You must be Wen Qi, right? Why are you leaving?”

Wen Qi nodded. She had no desire to speak with him and was about to walk away when Long Fei blocked her again.

“Hey, why aren’t you saying anything? Ah, your face is red. No, no, I was mistaken—it’s gone pale. Don’t tell me you’re feeling guilty because you’ve done something wrong?”

“What have I done?” Wen Qi asked irritably. Her face really had gone pale, but that was because Long Fei had angered her. She desperately wanted to curse him.

“Ah, you finally spoke. What I mean is, you haven’t been secretly trying to persuade Danni to dump me, have you? Heh, I can tell that’s exactly what you’ve been doing!”

Wen Qi’s heart jolted. Could this man read minds?

She would rather die than admit it. She cast Yang Danni a strange look, and Yang Danni quickly explained, “I have never told him anything. Don’t look at me like that, all right?”

Yang Danni’s smile was remarkably sweet, creating a stark contrast with Wen Qi’s expression.

Wen Qi was now both frustrated and furious. She was so embarrassed and enraged that she snapped at Long Fei, “What is wrong with you? Do you have any proof? Besides, a man like you deserves to be dumped by Danni! Hmph!”

What did it matter that she was a presenter? A presenter was still a person. And what did it matter that she was a beauty? A beauty could have a temper too.

The only reason Wen Qi had not completely lost her temper was probably that the matter concerned her own reputation. If she truly reached the limit of her anger, she would not merely curse him. She might even bite Long Fei a couple of times, just as Ye Qian had done.

“What’s wrong with me?” Long Fei asked with an ambiguous smile.

Wen Qi pointed at him, genuinely ready to throw caution to the wind. Yang Danni, however, began trying to calm them down.

“Heh, all right, Long Fei. Stop teasing Wen Qi. She has never been in love before. Of course she would be angry if you kept provoking her.”

“Ah, so you’re still—”

Long Fei looked at Wen Qi as though he had just discovered a new continent. People always said virgins were hard to find, so what was happening to him? Why did he keep meeting them everywhere? And most of them were stunning beauties.

What was going on? Was it not said that all the finest cabbages in the world had already been trampled by pigs? Could it be that he, one particular pig, had trampled every cabbage in the world? Or had all the other pigs gone blind, or developed completely different tastes?

Wen Qi’s face turned crimson in an instant. She glared at Yang Danni, then ran out without saying another word.

Long Fei continued calling after her, “Hey, Miss Wen Qi, don’t leave yet! There’s something I still need to tell you!”

Wen Qi did not turn around. With undisguised disgust, she said, “What else is there? Say it quickly!”

With a sly chuckle, Long Fei replied, “I just wanted you to check carefully and make sure you haven’t moved anything else. You mustn’t make a return visit like last time. If you’re really curious, you can stay. There are some things I think we could teach you. Heh heh.”

“Shameless bastard! You animal!”

Wen Qi could finally bear it no longer. She hurled the insult at Long Fei and fled in humiliation.
