Chapter 122: Campus Underworld
Liu Yunfei originally intended to scare Zhang Xiaoli into taking his "naughty bits" into her own hands, but he never expected to attract two female police officers. Since the Porsche was low to the ground and the officers were already standing right beside it, the interior was fully exposed to their view. A person's eyes capture images at a rate of 24 frames per second; even though Liu Yunfei’s movements were swift, they were not faster than human sight.
Though the two officers had studied at the police academy and seen cadavers, they had never seen a man’s "equipment" in such an active, working state. Their faces flushed red to their necks. However, since they were already standing at the window, they had to do something to save face. One saluted and said, "Please show me your driver's license and vehicle registration."
Liu Yunfei gave a wry smile. "My hands are both occupied, how do you expect me to get them? Could you two ladies please turn around? It’s a bit difficult for me to reach."
The slightly more curvaceous officer scoffed, "Disgusting," and turned away. The younger one followed suit, whispering, "Senior, the instructors taught us not to turn our backs on suspicious persons. What if he pulls out a gun? Wouldn't we be done for?" The more mature officer chuckled, "Then you go ahead and watch."
Liu Yunfei watched their full hips, barely contained by their wide police trousers, and defiantly shook his "little head" with his hand, drawing a giggle from Zhang Xiaoli. After adjusting his pants and hearing their chatter, he thought to himself, *Isn't this a gun right here?* He pulled out his identification, reached out the window, and poked the more curvaceous officer on the backside. She jumped as if burned, whirled around, and glared at him. After a cursory glance at the documents, she handed them back and said, "You’re in the middle of the street with so many people coming and going; aren't you ashamed? Try to show some restraint in the future."
Liu Yunfei smiled, took back his documents, and looked at the younger officer. "Don't turn around next time; I'll pull out my 'meat gun' and let you touch it, haha!" He slammed on the gas and laughed wildly. "It seems being the head instructor of the Huangjiang police isn't bad at all. The feeling of teasing female officers is quite interesting."
"Heh, you rogue. Teasing me isn't enough, now you're thinking about other police beauties?"
Liu Yunfei’s unexpected delay left Jiang Tao and his gang feeling very frustrated. They had been waiting for a long time for nothing. Jiang Tao was furious; he decided that even if he had to skip class, he was going to wait for this kid. His lackeys, loitering by the student bike shed, grumbled inwardly. *Boss, you're the son of a triad leader; the teachers won't do anything to you. We don't have fathers like that; the homeroom teacher is definitely going to call our parents for a talk again.* But they didn't dare say it out loud—Jiang Tao was far more terrifying than their parents.
"He's here, he's here!" Zheng Dayong, who had been keeping watch at the school gate, ran over, drenched in sweat.
Jiang Tao commanded, "Assemble! Hurry up and stand in line!"
The campus gang immediately fell into a parallel formation behind Jiang Tao. At the front was the boss, Jiang Tao, with his lecherous advisor Zheng Dayong by his side. Behind them stood the thugs, armed with water pipes, iron bars, tree branches, and broken chair legs. Every one of them wore a look of deep resentment, eyes wide like the fierce general Zhang Fei. The sheer presence and murderous aura they projected was a clear signal to everyone passing by: this was certainly not a game of soccer.
Triad members place great importance on posturing; they rely on their appearance to intimidate others. The saying goes, "Hitting someone isn't as fearsome as scaring them." That is why those in the underworld get tattoos and shave their heads—they are afraid others might not realize they are "tough." They want to instill fear, because once a person feels fear, their courage drains away, leaving them at their mercy.
The Porsche cruised slowly into the small parking lot. Liu Yunfei saw the group of people standing there in a neat line. At first, he thought they were posing for graduation photos, but then he noticed their weapons. Seeing Jiang Tao at the front, he knew they had come with ill intent. *Could it be that Jiang Mancheng sent his son to test me? That seems unnecessary. Even if he were willing to sacrifice his son, he couldn't catch a wolf like me from Jiangnan.*
"Stay in the car," Liu Yunfei told Zhang Xiaoli before stepping out. The members of the New Righteous Alliance immediately swarmed him.
"What are you guys doing? Switching careers to guard bicycles? That's a promising future, not bad," Liu Yunfei said, smiling as if nothing were wrong.
"Liu Yunfei, I hear you've been making quite a name for yourself lately. Our boss invites you to join the New Righteous Alliance," Zheng Dayong said. He thought, *You’re still pretending to be calm, but you'll be pathetic soon enough.* He wasn't as obsequious as before; with his boss backing him, he decided to play the fox borrowing the tiger's might. He recited the old script, though joining them was just a pretense—extorting "sponsorship fees" was the real goal.
"New Righteous Alliance? What the hell is that?" Liu Yunfei didn't even look at Zheng Dayong; he knew he was just a small fry. He met Jiang Tao’s gaze with a calm smile. Jiang Tao, however, began to feel uneasy, sensing that this kid didn't show a shred of fear—how was he even more arrogant than himself?
"It's the New Righteous Alliance! We have members from all over the school, plus many who have already graduated. We are the largest and only gang at Huangjiang Experimental High School. Join us, pay your regular dues, and no one in school will dare bully you. Whether it's someone shaking you down for money, stealing your girlfriend, or holding a grudge against you—we'll handle it for you," Zheng Dayong recited, weary but practiced.
"What kind of club is that? It sounds like you just help people with their homework and bully little kids," Liu Yunfei said, as if he had just noticed Zheng Dayong. He reached out and patted Zheng Dayong’s face. "Oh, you're here too? Helping them borrow money for abortions again? Do all your girlfriends belong to a pig farm? With so many people needing abortion money, I think you should rename it the 'Abortion Alliance'."
Liu Yunfei seemed to be gently patting him, but Zheng Dayong knew it was heavier than any slap. He felt dizzy, unable to tell north from south.
Seeing Liu Yunfei’s insolence and his insults toward the Alliance, the thugs grew indignant. Their eyes glowed with malice as they tapped their iron pipes against their palms, waiting for Jiang Tao’s word to swarm this ignorant kid and beat him bloody.
Liu Yunfei looked at them with growing disgust. Before they could move, he rushed toward Xu Xiang, who was at the front, and landed two sharp slaps across his face. Two crisp sounds echoed, and blood dripped from both corners of Xu Xiang’s mouth. The kid was stunned—he looked so delicate, how could he be so ruthless?
The other thugs prepared to pounce and avenge Xu Xiang, but then they saw something that defied belief. Liu Yunfei snatched the water pipe from Xu Xiang’s hand, grabbed both ends, and with a strange smile at Jiang Tao, twisted his hands. The water pipe was twisted into a pretzel.
Jiang Tao and his men were terrified. How much strength did that take? They had only seen such things in Hollywood movies; they never expected to see it in person. If that were their heads or arms... they didn't dare think further, and fear took root in their hearts.
"Yunfei," Zhang Xiaoli called out, having stepped out of the car. She stood beside him and tugged on his sleeve.
Liu Yunfei patted the back of her hand. "I know. Stand back." He understood what she meant—she wanted him to go easy and not leave anyone crippled, or worse, end a life.
But the little gangsters thought Zhang Xiaoli was afraid. Seeing someone fear them made them bold again. They looked at their boss, Jiang Tao, wanting him to act. Jiang Tao wished he could slap them all—*Why are you looking at me? If you want to fight, go ahead! Can't you see he's a monster?*
Jiang Tao wanted to fight, but Liu Yunfei soon satisfied that desire. Seeing that they hadn't dispersed despite his display of strength, Liu Yunfei felt a flare of irritation. "You're all just worthless scum who don't know any better. Today, I'll educate you on behalf of your parents." He went down the line, delivering two slaps to each person. They were used to being the ones who made others stand still and take a beating, but today, they were the ones standing still, waiting in line to be hit by Liu Yunfei.
As his turn approached, Jiang Tao panicked. Taking a couple of hits in private wouldn't be so bad, but losing face in front of his underlings was unbearable. Who would follow him after that? As he thought this, he felt a hard object in his pocket press against his thigh. *Right! Why were they looking at me earlier? They wanted me to pull out the weapon.* Jiang Tao thought, *You’re just strong, but are you really human? No matter how tough you are, you can't beat a gun.*
Jiang Tao pulled a steel-ball pistol from his waist. Obtaining a gun in China wasn't easy, but even a handmade one could cause serious injury or death. He had begged and pleaded to borrow this from his father's bodyguard, intending to show off, but he never expected it to be used for real.
Pointing the gun at Liu Yunfei, Jiang Tao finally smiled. Confidence flooded back into his body; he felt he could be arrogant again. Finally, he felt like a true gangster. "Go ahead, keep hitting! I dare you. Hit me once, and I'll fire back."
To his surprise, Liu Yunfei still wore that arrogant grin, as if he were blind and couldn't see the weapon. It made Jiang Tao want to slap him. "What is this toy? A gun? Let me show you what a real gun is."
Liu Yunfei whipped out his Beretta. The thugs were stunned again—everyone was stunned when they met Liu Yunfei. *What exactly is he? He even has a gun!* This one looked much more elegant than the piece Jiang Tao was holding, but beauty didn't matter; a gun had to be able to kill.
Liu Yunfei scanned the "wolves in sheep's clothing" before him. "I know you guys are thinking, 'Is that real? Don't try to fool us with a toy.' It seems I have to seriously injure or kill one of you for you to understand the gravity of the situation." Without even looking back, Liu Yunfei raised his hand and fired a shot into the air behind him. A howl of pain rang out simultaneously.
