Chapter 81: The Hero’s Tournament (Part Ten)
Page 1/3
The second match saw the Berserker Team face off against the Undying Legend Team, and the result was just as disappointing as the previous round. To everyone’s surprise, Undying Legend was wiped out completely within five minutes. Although the Berserker Team had no priest, their attack power was overwhelming, and their reckless, life-for-life strategy decimated the opposing team early on—though they themselves were left with only two survivors.
The third match, Ye Qiu versus the Huashan Hermit, also held little suspense. As a professional player of three years, Ye Qiu’s skill far surpassed these amateurs. In just three minutes, Ye Qiu used his brilliant footwork and perfectly timed spellcasting to demonstrate his mastery of the mage class to the audience.
Finally, it was our turn—our moment in the spotlight!
The opposing team, Reckless Youth, had a level 27 mage as their leader. Out of five members, three were mages and one a priest; all of them wore cloth armor. Fortunately, on our side, I was the only melee fighter. Among the others, especially Xinyu, playing a mage was still a bit of a challenge, while Xu Lin wore five pieces of blue gear of varying levels and was already close to level 28—far ahead of your average mage. Unless they were as skilled as Ye Qiu, ordinary mage experts would struggle against her.
Xu Lin stood beside me, her petite shoulders trembling slightly. “Lin Fan, how should we handle this team?”
I tried to keep my voice gentle. “Don’t be nervous. You and Xinyu focus on taking out their mages. Leave the level 26 priest to me. Xue Han, pay close attention—they’ll definitely put a curse on me. The moment I’m cursed, use Mana Dispel right away to purify all the effects. I’ll only have fifteen seconds to do my job—after that, I’ll be useless…”
Xinyu jabbed me with her elbow, glaring and whispering, “Don’t be so blunt. The match is about to start. You’ll have to handle that priest yourself; I don’t have a stunning arrow to clear a path for you. If they all focus fire, I might be dead in two seconds flat!”
No sooner had Xinyu finished speaking than the countdown began…

It started!
Four blue Frost Arrows and a gray curse landed on me almost simultaneously, but Xue Han’s Mana Dispel came swiftly, followed instantly by a healing spell. The four hundred points of health I’d lost were quickly restored, nearly bringing me back to full.
Once again, I found myself the target of a barrage of spells. During the second wave, I finally closed in on their priest. My combo attack landed—three swift strikes. Under the stunned gaze of their four remaining members, I dispatched the priest in a single, clean blow!

Xue Han’s healing came again, but my health was dropping too fast—four massive Fireblasts took a heavy toll. Even with forty percent spell resistance, I lost nearly a thousand health in four seconds. Another round and I’d be joining their priest in the afterlife.
But four seconds was enough. I reached their captain, Reckless Youth, just as the third wave of spells hit me—my health bar nearly empty. Five seconds in, Xue Han’s major healing completed, and a green twelve hundred floated above my head!
My hands moved swiftly, and I struck a crushing blow to Reckless Youth’s head!
“Nine hundred forty-two!”
Damn! A critical hit! Bad luck for Reckless Youth—the team captain was eliminated by my sword in one stroke!
“Damn, this swordsman is insane! How is he still standing after that barrage? What’s his spell resistance?” one of their level 26 mages cried out, but his answer was nothing but Xu Lin’s Fireblast and Xinyu’s Stun Arrow. Xinyu’s attacks were swift—a second arrow followed, and that mage was instantly dispatched!
Only two mages remained. From here, it was easy. Xue Han’s well-timed healing kept us out of danger, and taking down the last two mages was almost effortless.
Two white lights rose—the final match of the top eight was over!
System prompt: Congratulations, Green Veggie Cocoa Team advances to the semifinals! Next match begins in ten minutes!
The final four were set—and nearly all were familiar faces…
…
“Top four! At least we’ll get a blue item out of this!” Murong commented lamely from not far away.
I glanced over at Murong Shanshan and saw “Sky Thief” sitting next to her, chatting. Cocoa glanced in my direction, and our eyes met—she immediately pointed at Murong Shanshan and Sky Thief, then made a slicing motion across her neck—“stealing love at knifepoint?!”
Xinyu shot me a sidelong glance, the corners of her mouth curving in a wry smile, and let it go.

Fortunately, time passed quickly, and Fei’er soon announced the start of the semifinals!
Murong Shanshan’s Team vs. Berserker Team
Aside from Murong Shanshan, her group had no other high-level players; the remaining four were generally one or two levels lower than the opposition. But with Murong Shanshan’s personal strength, she could easily close that gap.
Xue Han whispered to me, “Lin Fan, who do you think will win?”
“Murong Shanshan!” I answered without hesitation. I’d seen her gear and skill firsthand—individually, she was probably second only to me. If I were to face her again, victory would hardly come easy.
Xue Han smiled faintly. “I think so too!”
The match began, and just as I expected, Murong Shanshan’s sword aura, with its five-yard range, caught an enemy mage off guard, instantly dealing over four hundred damage. Coordinating with two mages’ instant fireballs, they took out the level 27 mage in a flash!
“Boom!”
A fireball struck Murong Shanshan’s shoulder, making her stagger momentarily before she darted forward. Drawing her longsword from behind, she unleashed a heavy blow and then a combo, skillfully and cleanly dispatching another level 27 mage. Sky Thief appeared, using Backstab to instantly finish off the remaining low-health mage.
The Berserker Team, which had planned to go on the offensive, was thrown into disarray. Their two main damage dealers were taken out in five seconds. Murong Shanshan’s dazzling play left the audience nearly in a frenzy.
A level 26 rogue appeared behind Cocoa. Murong Shanshan’s two mages immediately suppressed him with Frost Arrows, while Murong Shanshan and the rogue teamed up to swiftly take down the level 27 warrior. In her hands, even a top-level player seemed as easy to defeat as cutting vegetables—leaving all the girls on our side dumbstruck.
The Berserker, seeing that all was lost, gave up chasing the mage and turned to strike at Murong Shanshan. Unfortunately, he hit nothing but air—Murong Shanshan reappeared behind him in the next instant, her sword shimmering with frost…
