Chapter 76: The Tournament of Champions (Part Five)

The last time the system was maintained, the duel system had already been updated. Unlike the malicious PK system, duels could only be initiated between two players, and when one side confirmed death, there were no losses at all—one’s health would simply be reduced to zero. Most players preferred to duel in the city, since dueling in the wild made it too easy to be ambushed by others.
Murong Shanshan pointed to the cathedral beside the square and smiled, “There are fewer people over there, let’s duel there!”
System prompt: Player Murong Shanshan has challenged you. Do you accept?
I immediately clicked accept, and at the same time, Murong Shanshan’s name above her head changed from green to red—the enemy status was now established!
Murong Shanshan suddenly charged at me, and before I could react, I saw my health drop by more than 200 points. She hadn’t even gotten close to me—just a strike of sword energy from a distance, and then she dragged her sword past me, a proud smile lingering on her lips!
I had underestimated this girl!
“Pop~!”
Murong Shanshan adjusted her position to the diagonal line, and another streak of green sword energy descended from the sky. I lost another 200-plus points of health, nearly 400 gone already, and I hadn’t even touched the hem of her garment. Wearing a red cloak, she seemed like a fiery sprite, quickly attracting a crowd of players from the square.
“Hey, everyone, come look! Two high-level players are PKing here!”
Someone shouted at the top of their lungs, and people immediately gathered in a circle. The excitement was no less than a wild PK outside.
“Have you seen their names? ‘Vegetable Jade Soup’ and ‘Murong Shanshan’—the two strongest swordsmen in Hurricane City!”
“Damn, stop yelling. I’ve already started the recording system—this will definitely be a hit on the forum!”
“Murong Shanshan is actually such an extraordinary beauty—I must take a picture this time…” a pig-headed player shouted.
“Vegetable Jade Soup isn’t bad either—great gear, high level, and so handsome!” said a dinosaur, picking her nose as she spoke.

Neither Murong Shanshan nor I paid much attention to the spectators. This kind of PK was bound to attract an audience.
I moved horizontally, positioning myself where Murong Shanshan intended to pass. She obviously didn’t expect me to predict her route and crashed directly into my arms, looking up to see my bright smile.
Unfortunately, my sincerity didn’t seem to move her. Instead, she responded with a heavy blow that dealt a deadly strike—442 red digits floated high above my head!
“Damn, that was harsh!” I muttered, frustrated, then quickly shifted my steps. My combo fell upon Murong Shanshan at the same time—“360,” “354”—not disappointing at all. An enhanced combo truly made a difference; Murong Shanshan apparently disdained combos and didn’t even use them.
Taking advantage of her momentary confusion, I instantly repositioned behind her and delivered another heavy strike—452 damage. Murong Shanshan’s 1400 health was now less than 300, while I still had over 1100. It seemed her chances were running out.
Just as I was feeling smug, Murong Shanshan’s figure suddenly shifted at a 45-degree angle, quickly appearing behind me. The Night Elf Sword, glowing white, struck my shoulder!
System prompt: You have been attacked by Murong Shanshan’s Frost Slash, losing 403 health. Frost power has inflicted damage, reducing your movement speed by 50%. Health continues to decrease at 20 points per second for 30 seconds!
I was shocked—Murong Shanshan had hidden such a killer skill!
My legs felt as if filled with lead; movement slowed dramatically. Now, I couldn’t even touch her. In the blink of an eye, she was behind me, combo and heavy strikes mercilessly hitting my back. My previously impressive 1000-plus health, after Frost Slash and those attacks, was less than 500, putting me and Murong Shanshan on equal footing. Unfortunately, I still had over 20 seconds of movement reduction, while Murong Shanshan nimbly ran off, the glow on her Night Elf Sword flickering…
Not good—she’s about to unleash the long-range sword energy attack again!
As she released the sword energy, I slid left. Though slow, it was just enough to dodge the deadly strike. The blue glow of the sword energy sliced into the tiles in front of the hall, sending dust and fragments flying.
I couldn’t help but inhale sharply. Thankfully, my reaction was timely, or it would have been dangerous.
The sword energy skill’s cooldown must not be short. After Murong Shanshan’s trump card failed this time, she stopped approaching. I had tried to hide my Frozen Slash earlier, but now it was too late to use it. Murong Shanshan’s Frost Slash was practically a simplified version of Frozen Slash—except for the lack of stun, the effects were remarkably similar.
Time ticked by. I never expected a duel between two swordsmen to turn out like this—neither dared to approach the other. Murong Shanshan was clearly waiting for the sword energy’s cooldown. If I took another hit, all she’d need would be a touch to finish me off.
System prompt: The effect of frost power has disappeared.

I looked down at my health; losing 20 points per second had left me with less than 300, just a sliver remaining. The surrounding players started to jeer, probably thinking my victory was out of reach.
Regaining mobility, I immediately ran diagonally toward Murong Shanshan, who was gathering strength for a sword energy slash…
“Bang~!”
With a crisp sound, Murong Shanshan’s blue sword energy slashed down from above my head, but in the next second, everyone cried out in surprise, and Murong Shanshan’s beautiful eyes widened, staring at me as if she’d seen a ghost.
System prompt: You have dodged Murong Shanshan’s sword energy skill!
Dodged it?! My high agility truly paid off!
Drawing the Dark Sword horizontally, Murong Shanshan instantly took my combo!
“346!”
“372!”
System prompt: Vegetable Jade Soup has defeated Murong Shanshan in the duel!
Murong Shanshan was dumbfounded, staring at me as she asked, “What happened? How did my skill get dodged?”
“Maybe my agility is too high—that’s the only reasonable explanation…”
“…”
