Chapter 154: I Will Avenge You
Page 1/3
I was laughing so hard my mouth almost wouldn’t close. Just now, I thought the Sword of Radiance, glowing with a holy light, could already top the current blade rankings in “Moon Eternal.” Unexpectedly, another blood-red sword appeared, boasting 75 points more attack than the Sword of Radiance. More importantly, it had a life-steal effect of 10. That meant if I fought monsters with 1,000 health, I could recover 100 points of my own health—no need to carry potions for leveling up anymore. Although it seemed the Sword of Radiance also had some self-healing ability.
For a moment, I was full of ambition. Neither the Sword of Radiance nor the Blood-Red Sword would be easy for me to equip at my current level, nor would I want to sell them. From my perspective, the initial auction in the main city had driven equipment prices sky-high mainly because many players wanted to use the chance to buy high-level gear to boost their fame. Later auctions might not have the same effect.
After much thought, I made a major decision—the Sword of Radiance would be a gift for Murong Shanshan!
Level 50! That’s my next goal.
I continued to inspect the remaining equipment: an armor, a mage’s robe, leather leggings, and a cloak.
[Sturdy Armor] (Armor — Orange Quality)
Defense: 264
Strength: +75
Stamina: +72
Agility: +60
Intelligence: +42
Additional: Absorbs 20 damage from enemies and converts it to the wearer’s health
Required Level: 52
This one was quite formidable. A level 52 orange armor with 264 defense and excellent stat boosts. The damage absorption made it undoubtedly the ultimate warrior armor! Unfortunately, the level requirement was too high—15 levels above me.
[Goddess of Wisdom Robe] (Cloth Armor — Orange Quality)
Defense: 120
Intelligence: +80
Stamina: +70
Strength: +40
Agility: +54
Additional: Increases user’s magic power by 25
Required Level: 48
I was somewhat speechless. A 25-point boost in magic power for a mage was incredible. Xu Lin was currently level 42 and only six levels away from wearing this robe. Soon, another powerful female mage would emerge!
[Dragonhide Leggings] (Leather Armor — Purple Quality)
Defense: 85
Strength: +42
Stamina: +56
Agility: +60
Intelligence: +33
Additional: Increases critical hit rate by 10%
Required Level: 48
Probably because of the high level requirement, these leggings provided over 60 agility—a rare find among purple gear—and the 10% critical hit rate boost would give Xin Yu formidable offensive power. I could imagine ordinary mages standing no chance against her, and those with slightly inferior gear might be instantly killed.
The last item was a blue cloak:
[Azure Cloak] (Armor — Purple Quality)
Defense: 122
Strength: +46
Stamina: +48
Agility: +42
Intelligence: +24
Additional: Increases resistance to fire magic by 80
Required Level: 50
A decent piece for me, but again, the level requirement was too high. At level 36 as a swordsman, it was still out of reach.
The lizard dropped nearly 2,000 gold coins, plus a 10,000 gold reward from the quest. I now had over 14,000 gold coins—equivalent to 140,000 RMB at the current 10:1 exchange rate. In the past, I might have converted it all to cash, but now it seemed unnecessary. Perhaps I wasn’t cut out to be a tycoon; after earning 200 million RMB in income, I was shamefully content with just four orange-quality items and didn’t even think about selling them—instead, I considered gifting them to a female player, making future favors easier.
After a quick check, I found my equipment durability was nearly depleted. The level 26 blue gloves had broken due to low durability. Oh well, I’d get better gear next time!
For safety, I hurried back to the city to store the top-quality items, then ventured out again. I still had double attributes for 14 hours. Not using this golden opportunity would be a waste.
Since repairing equipment only required a simple full-body repair without unequipping, I kept the high-level gear on, so the attribute penalty was minimal.
I listed some gear for consignment in the trading post, repaired my equipment, and dashed toward Silver Moon Mountain. The level 46 monsters at the foot of the mountain no longer interested me. With 1,600 attack and 1,300 defense, I could easily slaughter level 60 ordinary monsters, and even level 60 bosses would be no match for me in a solo fight.
After nearly half an hour, I passed monsters at level 65 halfway up the mountain. Moving further, I was pleasantly surprised to find monsters whose levels I couldn’t even see. Judging by monsters 30 levels above me, these creatures were over level 67.
Excellent. Time to take them down!
Before I could strike, Xu Lin logged in and activated the communicator: “Are you staying up all night? Hurry and log off to eat, don’t starve yourself.”
Her tone sounded slightly reproachful, warming my heart. I smiled and replied, “Time is precious now; I don’t want to waste it on meals. Missing a couple won’t hurt. Lin, look at my level…”
Soon, I heard Xu Lin’s startled scream: “Lin Fan, what happened? Who killed you down to level 37? Was it Berserker or the Dashing Young Master? Tell me, I’ll rally the troops for revenge!”

“Heh, your gang probably isn’t a match for the Dashing World Guild anyway,” I chuckled. “I wasn’t killed by anyone. Last night, I took on a brutal quest in a new map, fighting a level 75 boss. Of course, I couldn’t win. The worst part was I couldn’t return to town to respawn. I had to slog through a long battle and died nearly 40 times, which dropped me to level 37.”
Xu Lin sighed helplessly, “I was counting on you to boost our family’s reputation, but now your level is the same as Guozi’s. Our family’s prestige might suffer greatly.”
I smiled dismissively and handed her the orange-quality level 48 mage robe and a level 40 group magic skill manual.
To my surprise, Xu Lin logged off immediately. A few minutes later, she logged back in and said, “Show me the manual again. I just pinched Xin Yu’s butt and got beaten up—so this isn’t a dream, it really is orange-quality gear!”
I showed her again. She immediately cheered, “Where are you now? I’m coming to get the gear!”
“No way,” I quickly refused and explained, “I have double attributes now and must use this advantage to level up by fighting tougher monsters. Tell Xue Han and Xin Yu I’ll skip breakfast and dinner but log off at 10 p.m. sharp. I’ll probably be starving by then. All the gear’s stored in the warehouse; we can trade tomorrow, including Xin Yu’s purple leggings.”
“Okay,” Xu Lin didn’t ask further and logged off. I seized the chance to continue killing monsters.
…
The monsters here were over 30 levels above me, with rich experience and equipment drops. My double attributes fully showed their power: I had an overwhelming advantage over monsters 30 levels stronger, even instantly killing level 67 monsters with critical hits.
For a moment, I felt like the game itself was a bug—completely imbalanced.
Not long after, Murong Shanshan logged on and requested to chat:
“What happened? Who killed you down to level 37?!”
Her voice was filled with anxiety and anger.
I quickly explained everything but kept silent about the Sword of Radiance, wanting to surprise her.
Murong Shanshan, both surprised and angry, said, “Why were you so reckless? If the quest reward wasn’t that great, why fight so hard? Losing nine levels like that will take you at least ten days to catch up!”
I could only smile bitterly, “I had no idea the reward was just 10,000 gold coins until after finishing the quest!”
After a moment’s thought, she offered, “Want me to come get you now? The guild should be quiet this morning; I’m only free now.”
“No need. I’m training on my own now. You should focus on organizing the guild. If the roster’s too messy, it’ll be hard to manage during guild wars.”
Murong Shanshan smiled sweetly, “Don’t worry, I’ve entrusted those tasks to Young and Reckless and Sunset. They’re very capable, especially Sunset—his organizational skills are impeccable. Since he studied matrix theory in math, he’s perfect for handling the roster.”
I didn’t want her to come; I was in the zone, and the monsters gave too much experience. My experience bar was flashing and climbing nonstop.
“Shanshan, I’ll train myself. You take the high-level guild members to level or hunt. When I catch up, we’ll train together. I don’t want people saying I only leveled up because you carried me.”
Murong Shanshan grudgingly said, “Fine, but be careful. Your level is low, your gear is great; watch out for jealous players trying to gank you.”
I smiled inwardly. With monsters here at level 70, few players would dare to come and kill.
After chatting with Murong Shanshan, I turned my full attention back to the endless monsters before me.
