Murong Shanshan frowned and muttered to herself, “How did that idiot Berserk Warrior end up joining forces with World of Debauchery?”
“Of course they did. Birds of a feather flock together,” Young and Reckless said with a laugh.
The highest-level thief in the Sword and Roses guild, Heaven-Stealer, quietly concealed himself in the night. He glanced back and said, “Murong Shanshan, give the order. They’re about to make their move. This is the first battle since our guild was established!”
…
Not long afterward, Murong Shanshan’s voice came clearly through the guild channel:
“Everyone, pay attention to the formation! All melee classes, take the front line and make sure to protect the mages and priests! Summoners, call out all your summoned beasts and have them advance with the warriors to hold the front. Thieves, stay stealthed and wait for a chance to attack their priests and mages! Archers, use Premonition and try to expose all their thieves!”
I hurriedly turned around and asked, “What about me? Should I stay stealthed or act as a meat shield?”
Murong Shanshan smiled. “You and I will hold the front together and draw their fire. I’ll have a small team of priests focus on healing us!”
“Don’t do that. What if we can’t hold out and get killed?”
“What are you afraid of? I’m here.”
…
The narrow mountain path was charged with tension. Young Master Fengliu and Berserk Warrior’s group had clearly received word long ago that we were heading to Silvermoon Mountain, which was why they had arrived so precisely to block the way. Judging from their formation, they had no fewer people than we did. Players from Silvermoon City were still arriving in an endless stream.
Murong Shanshan made an immediate decision. “Everyone in the rear, listen up! Stop anyone who isn’t from our guild from entering this mountain path. If anyone tries to force their way in, kill them directly!”
The rear immediately erupted into chaos. The sounds of battle rose and fell without pause. Up ahead, World of Debauchery and Berserk Warrior’s forces also began to stir. All the melee players formed a line, filling both sides of the mountain path in several tightly packed layers. Behind them, large numbers of ranged players continued casting temporary buffs, while pale blue and crimson lights flashed incessantly.
At Murong Shanshan’s command, our formation began advancing. Under the staggered assault formation, the mages and archers in our rear had already begun attacking the warriors at the front of the enemy line.

Spells and arrows of every color whistled over our heads, striking the armor of the enemy swordsmen and knights with ringing impacts before bursting into showers of scattered light. The several dozen players at the very front collapsed without even managing a groan, gradually dissolving into the radiance of their souls.
Almost everyone present was participating in a large-scale battle of more than a thousand players for the first time. Even after dozens of people were killed instantly, no one retreated. The people from World of Debauchery charged forward with eyes that seemed to have turned red.
The two sides quickly collided. The skills of the melee classes erupted in dazzling displays of light, and within moments of the clash, dozens more players had been slain. Among them were several who had crashed directly into Murong Shanshan and me. We also lost a few warriors on our side.
The mages on both sides began casting the area-of-effect spells they knew. Fortunately, not many players currently possessed such skills, so they were not yet capable of determining the outcome of the battle.
As the two sides fought at close quarters, the thieves from both forces also appeared within the enemy mage formations. The rear lines on both sides immediately descended into considerable chaos.
Murong Shanshan quickly issued orders. “Archers, use Concussive Shot! Mages, charge up Pyroblast!”
After a thunderous barrage of explosions, the rear grew much quieter. However, the thieves led by Heaven-Stealer were clearly far more resilient than the enemy’s. We could still hear the sounds of blades stabbing from the depths of their rear line.
The disparity gradually became apparent. The people under World of Debauchery and Berserk Warrior had never been selected or trained as a proper force; most of them came from families that had played Legend together. Their levels, equipment, and control skills were all considerably inferior to ours.
The difference in the mages’ attack power was especially striking. Most of World of Debauchery’s players were melee classes, whereas our side had a large number of mages. A single round of attacks could instantly kill a huge swath of their warriors, while their mages could only reduce our players to half health with concentrated fire, leaving our priests enough time to heal them.
Young Master Fengliu was clearly beginning to panic. He shouted, “Mages and archers, concentrate your attacks and kill Murong Shanshan and Green Vegetable, White Jade Soup!”
Murong Shanshan froze for a moment, then hurriedly said through the guild channel, “Priests, get ready to heal us!”
The moment she finished speaking, the enemy’s first wave of attacks arrived.
Crack! Crack!
Several impacts rang out in succession, and nearly all of Murong Shanshan’s health was stripped away in an instant.
Fortunately, the priests had already been warned, and there were not many enemy mages within thirty yards who could attack Murong Shanshan. Even so, I was still badly startled. Murong Shanshan’s expression was grim as she glanced at me nervously.
Flash! Flash!
More than a dozen beams of healing light descended over Murong Shanshan, instantly restoring her health.

“Thank goodness, thank goodness!”
Murong Shanshan smiled in relief, then swiftly released a burst of sword aura. A gigantic blade of light immediately formed in front of her and swept horizontally downward—
Boom!
The violent impact made everyone’s eardrums ache. Loose stones on the mountain path were blasted into the air and scattered in every direction. The players directly in its path became nothing more than targets for testing a sword’s edge.
The dozen or so warriors at the very front lost more than half their health. Those with lower health were killed outright. The mages behind them suffered an even worse fate. Under the enveloping power of the sword aura, dozens of mages and priests were reduced to white light and sent away to be reincarnated beneath Murong Shanshan’s devastating attack.
I was immediately stunned.
Murong Shanshan’s Sword Aura must have already reached level five! Otherwise, the skill could never have been so powerful.
In Moon’s End, a skill’s appearance changed dramatically as its level increased. Murong Shanshan had only just reached level forty, so she must have deliberately found time to train Sword Aura all the way to level five.
“Damn! That’s completely unfair!” Young Master Fengliu cried out from a distance, his eyes nearly popping out of their sockets.
I secretly thought that Murong Shanshan must have acquired some new equipment as well—perhaps something that increased her attack power.
Just then, the Dark Sword in my hand suddenly turned icy cold.
Damn, I had finally managed to trigger the Profound Ice Sword!
Several ice-blue spikes exploded from the chest of a warrior directly in front of me.
Ice blossoms burst outward. That warrior died before he could even withstand the full force of the skill, but the attack did not stop there. The ice spikes continued flying backward, piercing through the bodies of several warriors in succession. Even a mage ten yards away was caught in the aftermath and lost half his health.
If my skill level were just a little higher, perhaps they would have died along with the warriors!
