Mu Rong Shan Shan’s decision was very wise. The boss’s attack power was simply beyond what ordinary players could withstand. Caught off guard, Xin Yu and Xu Lin each lost nearly half their health. Fortunately, Lu Xue Han and Coco reacted quickly, and a single healing spell from each of them pulled the two girls back from the brink of death.

I immediately shouted through the party channel, “Everyone, pay attention! Priests need to drink health potions too. After casting Mana Shield, heal the warriors!”

Without a word, Mu Rong Shan Shan swiftly drew her greatsword and charged forward. The Night Elf Sword traced a beautiful arc through the darkness before cleaving into the boss.

The damage figure “542” floated above the boss’s head. I followed with a slash of my own, taking 654 health from the Tree Demon King. Not bad—I had done slightly better than Mu Rong Shan Shan.

“354!”

A streak of purple light pierced the boss’s body. That had to be Xin Yu’s new skill—Corrosive Arrow.

Battle Notice: The Tree Demon King has been struck by player Green Temptation’s skill, Corrosive Arrow. Defense reduced by 250 points. Health decreases by 50 points per second!

It was an excellent skill. It could probably offset the boss’s regeneration, which meant Xin Yu had effectively gained an additional 50 points of damage per second.

Whoosh!

The boss launched another precise magical attack. This time, it even scored a critical hit. By sheer coincidence, both Mu Rong Shan Shan and I were struck by critical hits at the same time.

I was all right, but Mu Rong Shan Shan lost more than 2,100 health in a single blow. Her face turned pale, and she let out a startled cry.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

Two beams of holy light flashed across Mu Rong Shan Shan’s body. Coco restored more than 400 health, while Lu Xue Han’s healing spell also scored a critical effect, instantly recovering more than 1,800 health.

Mu Rong Shan Shan was left utterly dumbfounded.

“Lin Fan, is your beautiful priest really that powerful?” she asked in a very soft voice. Lu Xue Han, Xin Yu, and the others were standing some distance away. If they continued attacking, they should not be able to hear us.

I answered quietly, “She’s all right. She just happens to be wearing three pieces of purple equipment. She’s as absurdly overpowered as you are…”

“Hmph! That’s blatant jealousy!”

“When was I being blatant?”

“Pervert!”

The boss’s attacks were ferocious, while ours were constantly being resisted. Our progress was painfully slow.

After an hour of this continuous attrition, the boss had finally lost nearly half its health. We were not faring well either. The junior priests at the rear repeatedly found themselves in danger. After several narrow escapes from instant death, they gradually retreated, one after another. In the end, the only priest still standing behind us was Lu Xue Han.

Without the priests’ healing, the pressure on us immediately increased. Mu Rong Shan Shan shouted through the party channel, “Where are those priests? Heal yourselves to full and get back here! We can’t hold on much longer!”

Before long, the group of priests returned, carrying a large number of potions taken from their other teammates.

Bored, I opened the city rankings and glanced through them. The level rankings had barely changed. The system had also added several new rankings after the update, and I only gave them a casual look—until one piece of information caught me completely by surprise.

“Shan Shan!”

Mu Rong Shan Shan withdrew her sword and turned to ask, “What is it?”

“Did you notice that the person who bought the Guild Founding Certificate still hasn’t established a guild?”

Mu Rong Shan Shan froze for a moment. She must have checked the rankings as well, because she suddenly exclaimed in delight, “Bloodred still hasn’t founded a guild! That must mean his reputation is insufficient. We still have a chance to establish the first guild! That’s wonderful!”

She was right. The guild power rankings were completely empty. Bloodred had almost certainly fallen short of the required reputation.

The battle continued. Lu Xue Han’s healing spells flashed one after another, and Mu Rong Shan Shan’s and my health remained at roughly half. But to everyone’s surprise, once the Tree Demon King had only one-tenth of its health remaining, its attack speed suddenly increased.

“What’s happening?” Mu Rong Shan Shan cried out.

Her health had been completely drained in barely ten seconds. The situation became perilous in an instant.

I was not faring any better. At the beginning, the Tree Demon King’s spells had come roughly once every eight seconds. Now they were being cast every three or four seconds. My pitiful 1,800 health had fallen below 600. Mu Rong Shan Shan was in an even worse state—I could barely see any health left on her bar.

The battle information displayed the situation clearly:

The Tree Demon King has sensed the threat of death. Attack speed increased by 100%!

“Ah!”

Two screams came from behind us. When I turned around, I saw only the fading shadows of two priests.

Someone had still died during this operation!

Lu Xue Han repeatedly cast Healing, working together with Coco to barely pull Mu Rong Shan Shan and me back from the brink. Mu Rong Shan Shan then turned and shouted, “All players except the priests, withdraw from the battle! Every priest, heal me and Cabbage!”

Only then did I realize that, among Mu Rong Shan Shan’s group, I was apparently known as Cabbage…

After throwing out another Grand Explosive Flame spell, Xu Lin retreated while drinking a potion. Xin Yu likewise contributed a Shock Shot, smiled brightly, and followed Xu Lin away.

Before long, the remaining priests were also forced out of the battle. The only ones still able to stand within the boss’s attack range were Mu Rong Shan Shan, Lu Xue Han, and me.

“Only a tiny bit left!” Mu Rong Shan Shan said after striking with Frost Slash, as though trying to reassure herself.

I drank another health potion and forcefully unleashed Icebound Slash as well. Lu Xue Han’s snow-white hands moved rapidly, and two overlapping, translucent white squares descended beneath Mu Rong Shan Shan and me.

Pfft!

The Tree Demon King released another magical shockwave, but this time the result was far beyond anything we had expected.

Almost simultaneously, a faint purple barrier appeared around Mu Rong Shan Shan and me, firmly protecting us both. When the boss’s magic struck our bodies, a clear ringing sound immediately echoed through the air.

Clang!

Amid Mu Rong Shan Shan’s and my astonished cries, two sharp white spells struck the Tree Demon King head-on. In an instant, nearly 2,000 health vanished from its body.

Lu Xue Han seemed to know what we wanted to ask. She smiled faintly and said, “That was Spell Reflection. I haven’t used it in a long time.”

Mu Rong Shan Shan asked in amazement, “Why were the two of us able to reflect so much damage back at it?”

“Because the damage from Spell Reflection ignores magical resistance. In other words, the boss had to take the full damage from both spells!”

“How many attacks can it reflect?”

Lu Xue Han covered her lips with a smile. “For now, only one. I heard that once the skill reaches level ten, it can reflect four attacks.”
