Chapter 35: The Fierce-Horned Wolf
Night, silent and deep.
On the outskirts of Ramhorn Mountain, a pack of wolves surrounded the area, cutting off all anomalies. After countless bloody lessons, no creature dared to venture here anymore.
At a certain moment, a faint rustling echoed, as if something was crawling in the shadows. Catching the sound, a pair of luminous green eyes opened quietly in the darkness—it was a fierce wolf.
In the next instant, the wolf leapt forward, precisely seizing a moving shadow—a mouse. Without hesitation, it crunched and devoured the mouse, then surveyed its surroundings to ensure nothing was amiss, before curling back up in its den and sinking into a light slumber.
To the wolf, the mouse’s appearance was merely a minor episode. The fact that the mouse was unusually plump was not a cause for suspicion, but rather a pleasant surprise. Compared to other prey, a fat mouse made for an excellent midnight snack.
In the darkness, similar events unfolded continuously. Mice crept stealthily, attempting to penetrate the interior of Ramhorn Mountain. Yet, their covert movements were still hard to escape the wolves’ keen senses. The wolves possessed not only exceptional night vision but also extraordinary olfactory abilities; breaking through their defenses was no easy feat.
Meanwhile, in a cave not far from the mountain, Rat Tianjiao heard the reports from his subordinates and furrowed his brows, pacing back and forth.
After entering the forest, he led the rat horde in relentless exploration, and after a sweeping search, they made significant discoveries. By now, they had basically confirmed that Ramhorn Mountain was indeed the wolves’ current base.
“Squeak, squeak, squeak—the wolves’ den is Ramhorn Mountain. But their organization is strong and formidable. The little mice can’t breach their blockade to enter, nor can they spy on the wolves’ core secrets.”
“What’s worse, there are too many wolves there. The rocky terrain makes even burrowing ineffective.”
Stepping out of the cave, Rat Tianjiao gazed at Ramhorn Mountain under the moonlight, falling into silence.
By his own strength, he might be able to break through the wolves’ defenses and enter the mountain to uncover its secrets, but the risks were considerable.
“The old master once said that most of these wolves are monsters, possibly stronger than me. Going in alone is truly unwise.”
“If we can't get in, then let the wolves come out. This is drawing wolves from their lair.”

After much deliberation and weighing pros and cons, Rat Tianjiao formed a plan.
In the days that followed, the rat horde ceased their attempts to infiltrate Ramhorn Mountain. Instead, under Rat Tianjiao’s command, they banded together and began to hunt wolves in an orderly fashion.
Indeed, a single mouse was no match for a fierce wolf. But numbers were the rats’ advantage, and with Rat Tianjiao’s guidance, they exploited this strength to the fullest. They hunted patiently, gathered information meticulously, and targeted lone wolves.
The wolf pack countered, but the rats, skilled at burrowing, had already prepared escape routes, engaging the wolves in underground warfare. For a time, the wolves found themselves at a loss.
After several such skirmishes, the anomaly finally drew the attention of the wolf pack’s leaders.
With a low growl, a giant wolf over two meters long, draped in green-maned fur and crowned with a small horn on its brow, descended from Ramhorn Mountain. This was the Fiercehorn Wolf—a true monster, awakened with spiritual intelligence.
At its appearance, all nearby wolves instinctively lowered their heads in submission.
Moments later, accompanied by a chorus of howls, a team led by the Fiercehorn Wolf marched straight out of Ramhorn Mountain.
With the Fiercehorn Wolf joining them, the wolves handled the rat horde with ease. Its tracking skills left the mice nowhere to hide, and its mighty physique rendered ordinary burrows useless.
Thus, the wolves launched a counteroffensive, slaughtering rats on a grand scale. The rat horde fell into disarray, unable to mount an effective resistance and forced to flee. Yet, none of the wolves noticed that the rats were scattering further and further from Ramhorn Mountain, blinded by victory and their own bloodlust.
In the shadows, Rat Tianjiao observed the unfolding events with satisfaction. He was clever indeed; reading and hearing stories had proven invaluable.
“Squeak, squeak, squeak—when I return, I must have the keepers at Rat Garden tell me more tales.”
His lips curled in a smile, and he resolved to learn—not merely for the pleasure and amusement of the stories.
Just then, the sound of dry leaves being crushed echoed quietly. Rat Tianjiao’s ears twitched, and in the next instant, a fierce wolf lunged from the darkness.
Squeaking in panic, Rat Tianjiao rolled desperately, barely evading the wolf’s attack. Then, he dashed off, fleeing blindly into the distance.

Watching his snack escape, the wolf was unwilling and quickly gave chase.
For a moment, mouse and wolf raced through the forest, but Rat Tianjiao soon stopped, confronted by a sheer cliff. The wolf arrived, eyeing the mouse pressed against the rock, terror-stricken and cornered. Greed and bloodlust filled the wolf’s gaze, as drool trickled from its mouth.
Just as it prepared to strike, a huge shadow enveloped it.
“At this point, we shouldn’t alert the other wolves,” Rat Tianjiao said, his form swelling, rising upright. He looked down at the wolf, eyes full of mockery.
Faced with the sudden transformation, the wolf was stupefied. Its little mind couldn’t fathom how its prey had instantly become a giant beast. Instinctively, it tried to flee.
As it turned, a whip lashed out, binding it tightly and dragging it back into the darkness.
A moment later, Rat Tianjiao emerged from the shadows, restored to his original form, as if nothing had happened. The only difference was his slightly swollen belly.
“The fish are in the net—just a little longer before I close it.”
Looking into the distance, anticipation shone in Rat Tianjiao’s eyes. As long as he caught the Fiercehorn Wolf, his mission would be complete. The opportunity was singular; if missed, it would be much harder next time.
With this thought, Rat Tianjiao slipped into the dense forest.
