Su Wan’s body jolted, and without a second thought, she jerked her hand free and raised the other, ready to slap the man before her. But Mu Yunshen caught her hand in one swift motion.

“How can you be so ungrateful? I was only checking your injured finger.”

Su Wan’s cheeks flamed red, her body trembling with anger. “That’s not necessary!”

Seeing her reaction, Mu Yunshen only grinned wider. “Are you embarrassed?”

Su Wan clenched her teeth, struggling to pull her hand away, but he only tightened his grip.

“Let go of me!”

“You haven’t answered my question.”

“There’s nothing!”

“Really nothing?” Mu Yunshen teased, pulling her hand towards him. Caught off guard, Su Wan nearly fell onto his chest. His other arm circled her waist, his smile deepening. “You don’t look it.”

“Let me go!” she demanded.

He was so close now that his breath brushed against her cheek. Her face grew hotter, and she twisted and struggled all the more, but his strength was overwhelming.

“If you don’t let go, I’ll call the police!” Su Wan threatened through gritted teeth.

“Go ahead. I’m practically a regular at the police station. It’s been a while—I almost miss it.”

She was stunned by his response, at a loss for any retort.

Mu Yunshen, seeing her face flushed—whether from anger or embarrassment—couldn’t help but smile further. “Don’t you have a boyfriend? Why are you still so shy? Or... has he never treated you like this?”

“Shut up!” Su Wan spat, her voice venomous. “Let go of me now!”

“And if I don’t?”

“You—”

Seeing her on the verge of tears, Mu Yunshen finally released her hand. “Alright, I’ll stop teasing.”

Su Wan said nothing. She simply turned and walked away. As she slammed the car door behind her, the bang echoed loudly.

Mu Yunshen sat in the car, watching her retreating figure, and suddenly burst out laughing. Just then, his phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, his smile vanished instantly. He answered, “I’ll be back right away.”

Su Wan stormed back to her apartment, fuming.

She knew that someone like Mu Yunshen was surrounded by women every day; teasing her was just his way of seeing if she was after his money. The thought that she had actually believed—foolishly—that he would help her made her all the angrier. In a fit of pique, she grabbed her phone and blocked his number and WeChat, feeling only a little satisfaction after doing so.

Never would she have imagined that the very next day, this shameless man would show up at her company.

At the time, Su Wan was on the phone with the factory, trying to negotiate a delay on the payment. The person on the other end was adamant—not a single day’s extension.

Her frustration was so intense it made her stomach ache. As she searched for her medicine, the secretary’s voice came through: “President Su, someone’s here to see you.”

“Let them in,” Su Wan replied distractedly, her hand closing around a bottle of pills. She glanced at the label—expired for a month.

She tossed the bottle toward the trash, but even it seemed to conspire against her; it bounced off the edge, rolled out, and landed on the floor.

A pale, elegant hand picked it up before she could. Su Wan looked up sharply to find Mu Yunshen arching an eyebrow at her.

“Not feeling well?” he asked.
