Chapter 47: Completely Unsuitable
Su Wan felt a sudden chill sweep over her body; by the time she tried to stop him, it was already too late. His lips brushed her earlobe, his hand tracing a burning path down from her stomach, the heat—whether from his wound or something else—making her shudder. Her breath quickened, her strength seemed to ebb from her limbs. She wanted to push him away, yet for some inexplicable reason, she found herself powerless.
"Don’t..." she finally managed to force out between clenched teeth. Mu Yunshen paused, looking down at her. Su Wan’s face was flushed scarlet; after a long moment, she managed to stammer, "Someone... someone might see us."
Mu Yunshen chuckled softly, ruffling her hair. "What am I supposed to do then? I just can’t help myself."
Even without his words, Su Wan could sense his intentions. Her cheeks grew even redder. Just as she was about to speak, a voice called down from above, "Shen! Brother Shen, are you down there?"
They'd found them! Su Wan was about to call out, but Mu Yunshen quickly covered her mouth. Wide-eyed, she stared at him. Mu Yunshen called up, "Throw some clothes down!"
The people above, clearly confused, nonetheless tossed down an article of clothing. Su Wan immediately understood and blushed even deeper. Mu Yunshen, displeased with the clothing, simply took off his own and helped Su Wan into it.
They were on a slope, so the people above couldn’t see them. Pi Zi, impatient, climbed down himself, but before he could get close, Mu Yunshen hurled a rock in his direction. "Turn around!"
Pi Zi dared not look, spinning around at once. "Uh, Brother Shen, should I carry Sister-in-law up?"
He waited a long while, but receiving no answer, turned to see Mu Yunshen already carrying Su Wan up the slope.
Su Wan belatedly realized, "Your wound—is it alright?"
Mu Yunshen gave only a brief smile. Su Wan was about to scold him, but he interrupted, "I was just worried there might be an ambush above, so I kept you down there."
She glared at him; Mu Yunshen paused, then asked, "Or do you think I had some ulterior motive?"
Recalling what had just transpired, Su Wan’s face flared up again. She turned her head away, refusing to meet his gaze. Mu Yunshen’s laughter rang out, bright and delighted.
They headed straight to the hospital. Mu Yunshen’s wound was deep—not affecting any vital organs, but he’d lost quite a bit of blood and the injury was somewhat infected. The doctor recommended he be hospitalized. Mu Yunshen, however, insisted on leaving. As soon as he got into the car, he promptly fainted.
Su Wan panicked, about to insist they return to the hospital, but Pi Zi reassured her, "Don’t worry, Sister-in-law. He’s just exhausted."
"Why not stay in the hospital? What if his wound gets infected?"
"Sister-in-law, it’s because he was thinking of others." Pi Zi continued, "Those people with nothing to lose will come after us sooner or later. If Brother Shen stays in the hospital and they open fire, it’ll be no small matter."
Su Wan gritted her teeth. "Who exactly are those people?"
Pi Zi just smiled and said nothing. She didn’t need him to answer; she already knew—they were people from the underworld.
Being hunted down was nothing new to Mu Yunshen; it certainly wouldn’t be the last time, either.
They took Mu Yunshen back to his apartment. Just as the last time Su Wan had visited, the place was a mess—half-eaten takeout on the coffee table, several empty beer bottles lying around. Su Wan frowned at the sight.
"Look, Sister-in-law, what Brother Shen needs is a woman—especially one with your grace and gentle heart to take care of him!"
She shot him a look. "How much is he paying you to say that?"
Pi Zi shook his head vigorously. "No, Sister-in-law, I mean every word."
Su Wan couldn’t be bothered to banter. After Pi Zi helped Mu Yunshen onto the couch, she began tidying up. Pi Zi, feeling in the way, said, "I’ll head out. Call me if you need anything."
"Wait a moment!" Pi Zi stopped and looked at her.
"I left my phone at the bar last night. Could you help me find it?"
"No problem!"
After seeing Pi Zi off, Su Wan grabbed a pair of gloves from the kitchen and began cleaning. She filled a garbage bag with beer bottles and cigarette butts. Just as she stood there, lost in thought, the door opened.
She had locked it, but the person outside used a key. Upon seeing Su Wan, the woman froze, then pointed at her. "What are you doing here?"
Su Wan didn’t reply, her gaze fixed on the key in the woman’s hand.
Gu Yan ignored her, striding over to snatch the garbage bag from Su Wan’s hands. "I’ll clean up. No need to trouble yourself!"
Su Wan frowned. Gu Yan immediately began to usher her out. "You can leave now."
"This is his place. I’ll leave when he tells me to."
Su Wan didn’t argue, simply sat down beside Mu Yunshen. Gu Yan stared in disbelief. "What did you say? I’m his girlfriend! What do you think you’re doing in front of me?"
"That’s up to him, not you," Su Wan replied calmly.
Gu Yan’s fists clenched. "Su Wan, how shameless can you be? I’m the one for him!"
Su Wan looked at her quietly for a moment, then said, "You know, before today, whenever Li Man or Pi Zi mentioned you, I imagined you as elegant and beautiful."
"What are you getting at?"
"Nothing. You’re just different from what I imagined."
Gu Yan was stunned for a long time before snapping back, "Are you insulting me?!"
Su Wan smiled, neither affirming nor denying it.
Gu Yan trembled with rage. "I don’t care what you think! Get out! Get out right now!"
"I’m afraid I can’t."
Seeing that Su Wan wouldn’t leave, Gu Yan grabbed her and tried to drag her out. Su Wan frowned. "Let go."
"Get out!" Gu Yan’s eyes were red with frustration. Anyone witnessing the scene might think Su Wan was bullying her.
Su Wan was about to retort when the man on the bed suddenly stirred. Gu Yan instantly released Su Wan and rushed to Mu Yunshen’s side, her demeanor changing in an instant. "Shen, you’re finally awake! I was so worried about you!"
Mu Yunshen glanced at her, then at Su Wan. "Could you step out for a moment? I need to talk to her."
The words made Su Wan’s body tense involuntarily. Gu Yan lifted her chin triumphantly.
Su Wan fought to repress her anger. "Alright."
She left the room, closing the door behind her. She’d intended to leave, but after a moment’s thought, she decided to wait outside. The room was soundproof—she couldn’t hear a thing.
After about two minutes, the door swung open. Gu Yan glared at her, covered her mouth, and fled.
Su Wan stood frozen for a long while before finally turning to look inside. Mu Yunshen was leaning against the wall, smiling at her.
Su Wan frowned, then turned to leave. Mu Yunshen hurried over, grabbed her hand, and said, "I’ve made things clear with her. She won’t come back."
She tried to pull away, but he caught her with his other hand and pulled her into his arms. She struggled, but he murmured, "Struggle all you want. If my wound splits open, it’ll hurt me to death."
She immediately stopped moving.
Mu Yunshen seemed to smile, then looked down at her. "Not angry anymore?"
She pressed her lips together, silent.
He ruffled her hair. "Since I met you, there’s been nothing between us. You know, she was once sent to kill me. When she failed, those people tried to hunt her down, so I took her in for a while."
Su Wan bit her lip. "You’d take in someone sent to kill you? Mu Yunshen, how did I never realize you were so kind-hearted?"
"Well, if she hadn’t stabbed me, I never would have met you. In a way, I suppose she’s a matchmaker for us."
The joke was hardly funny, but at least Su Wan’s expression had softened.
He held her close. "Alright, don’t be angry."
She pulled his hand away. "I’m going home."
"No, you have to take care of me!"
He grabbed her hand. Su Wan complained, "You’re stronger than me. Why should I take care of you?"
"Then... I’ll take care of you instead."
With that, Mu Yunshen scooped her up and tossed her onto the bed. Before she could react, he was already on top of her.
"You—" she began, but he silenced her with a kiss, deep and overwhelming. He seemed determined not to let her resist; soon, her breath was growing shallow, and once again, her clothes were being stripped away.
"Sister-in-law, your phone—"
Pi Zi’s voice echoed from outside, making Su Wan’s heart leap. Fortunately, Mu Yunshen reacted quickly, yanking the blanket over them both.
"Are you looking to die?!" Mu Yunshen glared at Pi Zi, who trembled and bowed repeatedly in apology, turning to leave. He remembered the phone in his hand and slowly brought it over. "Sister-in-law, your phone..."
Mu Yunshen snatched it from him. "Get out!"
"Yes, I’m leaving right now!"
Even if they had called him to stay, Pi Zi wouldn’t have dared. Once outside, he locked the door behind him.
Under Mu Yunshen, Su Wan’s face was so red it looked as if it would bleed. Seeing that he had yet to move, she shoved him. "Get off me!"
He wanted to continue, but Su Wan wriggled out from beneath his arm, quickly straightening her clothes. "Give me my phone."
Mu Yunshen sat up and handed it to her.
There were several missed calls—all from Bo Yezhou.
Seeing the name, Su Wan frowned and glanced at Mu Yunshen, who was also looking at her phone.
"I need to make a call."
With that, Su Wan left the room. She stared at the redial button for a long time before finally pressing it.
"Hello?" He answered quickly. Su Wan’s breath caught, but she soon spoke. "What is it?"
"Where were you last night?"
She frowned. "What does it matter to you?"
"As long as you’re alright. There was an incident at the bar last night—I saw you on the security footage... As long as you’re okay."
Su Wan said nothing. He, too, fell silent.
After a long, heavy pause, Su Wan finally said, "If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up."
She was about to end the call when Bo Yezhou quickly interjected, "Wait!"
"What else?" Su Wan almost snapped.
Bo Yezhou drew a deep breath. "Su Wan, I know you’re with that Mu Yunshen now, right? Listen to me—don’t get too close to him."
"What’s it to you?" Su Wan laughed coldly. "Officer Bo, aren’t you meddling a bit too much?"
Bo Yezhou frowned but said nothing. Su Wan didn’t wait for a reply and hung up.
Only after the dial tone faded did Bo Yezhou end the call. Just then, the fax machine beside him whirred, and a sheet of paper emerged. Bo Yezhou pulled it out and read aloud: "Mu Yunshen, 31, student of the 118th class of South City Police Academy. In his third year, expelled for insubordination and misconduct."
—
Mu Yunshen refused to let Su Wan leave, so she stayed. She had no change of clothes, and Mu Yunshen cheerfully offered her one of his shirts. Seeing its length and width, Su Wan refused without hesitation and asked Li Man to bring her two sets of clothes.
Mu Yunshen didn’t mind. He didn’t do anything else, just asked Su Wan to cook for him.
Meanwhile, Su Wan’s company issues remained unresolved. She knew if she didn’t yield to her father, he wouldn’t let things go. To make matters worse, Wen Shaoran kept pressing her. Linda had called several times to say that many partners were questioning the company, and if they were sued for breach of contract, the consequences would be dire.
"I know. I’ll handle it. Tell everyone to hold the line," Su Wan said, her voice unconsciously stern as she hung up.
Mu Yunshen, sitting opposite her, noticed immediately. "Something wrong?"
Su Wan shook her head.
"If you don’t want to talk, I’ll have someone look into it—"
"Wait," Su Wan interrupted, afraid he’d discover her father’s outrage was because he’d beaten up Wen Shaoran. She quickly summarized the situation for him, omitting the rest.
Mu Yunshen’s eyes darkened. "Your father really said that?"
Su Wan nodded.
Mu Yunshen stood abruptly. Su Wan, startled, grabbed his arm. "What are you going to do?"
"That Wen guy has the nerve to propose marriage? I should’ve castrated him last time—let’s see how he marries you then!"
"This is between me and my dad. Even without Wen Shaoran, there’d be someone else."
Mu Yunshen fell silent.
Su Wan, thinking he’d bring up their backgrounds again, hurriedly said, "It’s fine. If I have to, I’ll close the company. I won’t yield to him!"
"Actually, your father just wants you to have a good future," Mu Yunshen said quietly.
His words made Su Wan’s hand freeze. She looked at him. "What are you trying to say?"
"I just mean, your father loves you. Don’t make him angry over a few small things."
"Is that so?"
He nodded.
"And... your parents?" Su Wan asked suddenly.
Mu Yunshen paused, then smiled softly. "They’re gone."
"Both...?"
He nodded.
Neither said anything more.
Seeing her distracted, Mu Yunshen said, "Why don’t you go back to see him?"
"It’s alright. I’ll visit tomorrow."
Since she insisted, he didn’t press her. After dinner, Su Wan finished cleaning the apartment.
Mu Yunshen was lying in bed. When Su Wan entered, he patted the spot beside him.
She hesitated, but just then her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID, frowning.
"What is it?" Mu Yunshen started to approach, but Su Wan quickly hung up. "I should go home. You get some rest."
He looked at her, then nodded. "Alright."
She gathered her things and left.
Watching her go, Mu Yunshen picked up his phone. "Take her home. Also, find someone for me!"
—
Pi Zi offered to drive her, but Su Wan refused. After he watched her get into a car, he left.
As soon as the car started, Su Wan called. "What’s going on?"
"Your father... is in the hospital."
Her face changed instantly. "To the hospital!" she ordered the driver.
Though she’d wanted to confront Su Yichuan about his actions only a day before, hearing that he was hospitalized made her heart clench with worry.
Bo Yezhou was waiting outside the ward. When he saw Su Wan, he came over immediately.
"My father—how is he?" Su Wan grabbed his arm, breathless from hurrying.
"He’s fine. Just an old heart problem. He woke up earlier and is resting now."
Only then did Su Wan relax, pulling her hand away and heading into the room.
Su Yichuan lay in bed. Only now did Su Wan see how much he’d aged—so much white in his hair, his heavy breathing weighing on her heart.
She squeezed her hand.
"I’ve heard about your situation from the teacher," Bo Yezhou said behind her, making her tense but she didn’t turn.
He continued, "Actually... he’s doing it for your own good."
"For my own good?" Su Wan laughed bitterly, turning to him. "Don’t think you can erase everything with those words. For my own good, he’d have me marry someone with ulterior motives?"
At the words "ulterior motives," Bo Yezhou’s expression visibly changed.
Su Wan looked away.
Finally, Bo Yezhou spoke again. "And you think Mu Yunshen has none?"
"He doesn’t," she answered without hesitation.
Bo Yezhou looked at her, pain twisting inside him as he heard her defend another man so firmly.
He forced himself to continue, "That’s only because you don’t know the truth. Su Wan, you’re too naive about people."
She smiled softly, looking at him. "Yes, I think so, too."
Bo Yezhou knew she was mocking him.
He took a deep breath. "If you’re doing this out of resentment toward me for the past, then—"
"You’re overthinking," she cut him off with a slight laugh. "Bo Yezhou, you’re not that important."
"Even if it’s not about me, have you thought about the teacher? He’s deputy mayor of North City, but his only daughter is with someone of ill repute?"
Su Wan turned to him, enunciating each word. "Bo Yezhou, what right do you have to judge him?"
He frowned, but Su Wan had already lost interest in arguing. She pointed at the door. "Out!"
"Fine. Take care of your father."
He turned to leave, but at the door, he paused, looking back at her. "But you’d better do something about what’s on your neck. If the teacher sees it when he wakes up, it won’t look good."
Only after he left did Su Wan realize what he meant. She rushed to the bathroom mirror and saw faint pink marks on her neck.
Her body tensed. Thinking of Bo Yezhou’s reaction, she suddenly felt cold.
Su Yichuan woke up the next day. Seeing Su Wan, his expression stiffened before he turned away. "So you remember you have a father? You know to come back?"
"Of course. I just wonder if you remember I’m your daughter, or you wouldn’t use such tactics against me."
Her words caught in his throat. After a long silence, he finally said, "I did it for your own good!"
"For my good, so you had my company seized?"
"I can provide for you!"
"If I wanted to rely on you, why did I start my own company in the first place?"
Her every word left Su Yichuan speechless.
After a long pause, Su Wan said, "Dad, I know you mean well, but when you give me all these things, why don’t you ever ask what I actually want?"
"A girl’s most important task in life is to find a good man to marry. That’s what matters most!"
"So you think Wen Shaoran is a good man?"
Su Yichuan fell silent.
"In the end, you’re still with that boy, aren’t you?" he said abruptly.
Su Wan nodded.
He looked at her. "You’re trying to infuriate me!"
"Dad, you can’t judge someone by their job. There are plenty of wolves in sheep’s clothing in this world."
Su Yichuan said nothing.
Su Wan massaged his shoulders. "Dad?"
"Does he know I’m in the hospital?" he asked suddenly.
Her heart leapt. "Not yet."
"Then let him know and arrange for us to meet properly."
"Alright, thank you, Dad! I knew you cared about me most!"
She turned to leave, then remembered her company. "Dad, what about my company..."
"I’ll see to it."
Relieved, she went out to call Mu Yunshen.
There was no answer. She frowned and called Pi Zi.
"Sister-in-law," he answered quickly.
"Where’s Mu Yunshen? Put him on the phone."
"Sister-in-law... Brother Shen, he..." Pi Zi sounded evasive.
"What happened?"
"N-nothing."
"Tell me the truth!"
"Sister-in-law, I’ll tell you. Brother Shen had me bring that guy from the hotel last time. They’re in the room now, I don’t know—"
Before he finished, Su Wan hung up.
She didn’t even say goodbye to her father, rushing out and heading straight for Mu Yunshen’s place.
Seeing her, Pi Zi hurried over. "You’re finally here, Sister-in-law. They’ve been in there an hour already. If something happens tonight—"
Su Wan didn’t waste time listening. She strode up and pounded on the door. "Mu Yunshen! Open the door!"
She was ready to have Pi Zi break the door down if he didn’t, but as soon as she finished, the door opened.
Inside, Wen Shaoran sat looking stunned. Su Wan rushed over to check if he was hurt, but Wen Shaoran burst out, "I’m sorry, Su Wan! It was all my fault! Please, be magnanimous—don’t hold it against me, I really know I was wrong..."
Su Wan had never seen Wen Shaoran like this—practically sobbing. She looked at Mu Yunshen.
Mu Yunshen stepped up to Wen Shaoran. "Now, do you still want to marry Su Wan?"
"No, no! I’m just a toad—I’m not worthy of Su Wan, I’m not, I’m not!"
Satisfied, Mu Yunshen kicked him. "I want to see a public statement by tonight. If not..."
"Don’t worry, I’ll do it! I will!"
"Get lost!"
Only then did Wen Shaoran scurry away.
Su Wan glared at Mu Yunshen. "What did you do to him?"
"Nothing. To deal with a scoundrel, you have to be just as shameless. Anyway, why are you here?"
Hearing this, Mu Yunshen realized what had happened and looked around—Pi Zi had already fled.
He caught Su Wan’s hand. "He’s just making a fuss. What, did you think I’d kill someone?"
"Maybe he’s scared you will," Su Wan replied, exasperated.
Mu Yunshen raised his hands. "You saw for yourself—he’s not hurt."
"Then what did you do to him?"
"Nothing much. Just filmed a video of him. Have you sorted everything out?"
She studied him for a long moment before replying, "My father’s in the hospital."
"What happened? Is he alright?"
"He wants to see you."
Mu Yunshen fell silent.
Su Wan watched him anxiously. "He seems to have agreed to us. Will you go see him?"
Her gentle tone brought him back from his thoughts. He smiled. "Alright. But not today—my wound isn’t healed. Tomorrow."
Relief flooded Su Wan’s face.
Su Yichuan did seem to have calmed down. That afternoon, her company resumed normal operations, and the doctor reassured her that her father was fine. Everything seemed to be turning for the better.
She’d been away from work for two days. By the time she finished at the office, it was midnight. Looking up, she found herself alone in the building.
As she tidied her desk and headed downstairs, she spotted Mu Yunshen’s car parked outside.
She hesitated, then approached. Mu Yunshen was asleep at the wheel. She tapped on the window; he started, saw her, and opened the door.
"Why so late? It’s not safe for you to go home alone."
"I lost track of time. Why are you here?"
"I was passing by, saw your office light on, and thought I’d take you home."
"Your wound isn’t healed," Su Wan said, frowning.
He pulled her close and kissed her.
"Bringing my wife home—that’s my job!"
She hastily pulled away, blushing furiously.
Mu Yunshen smiled, satisfied, and started the car.
At her building’s gate, he stopped. "Go on. Eat something before bed, or your stomach will hurt again."
Su Wan nodded. "Tomorrow—don’t forget."
He nodded, and she got out.
After a few steps, he called her back. She turned. He hugged her and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead.
"Goodnight."
Su Wan smiled, her eyes crinkling. "Goodnight."
He stood watching her until she entered and turned on her lights. She stepped onto the balcony and waved before he finally drove away.
Su Wan watched his car disappear before closing her curtains. What she didn’t know was that, even as his car vanished from sight, another vehicle lingered downstairs all night.
—
The next day, Su Wan put work aside and went straight to the hospital.
There were more flowers and fruit baskets in the room than before. Su Wan, accustomed to such gestures since childhood, set them aside and sat down.
"Dad, how are you feeling today?"
Su Yichuan glanced at her, handed her the newspaper, looking conflicted. Su Wan took it, puzzled.
It was a statement from the Wen family—announcing the cancellation of her engagement to Wen Shaoran.
Seeing the announcement, Su Wan couldn’t hide her joy. Su Yichuan noticed. "Did you have something to do with this?"
"Dad, didn’t you see it was a Wen family statement?"
"Did you do something?"
Su Wan didn’t know what Mu Yunshen had done, but she replied, "No."
Her father didn’t believe her but let it go. After a pause, he said, "Weren’t you going to bring that Mu boy to see me?"
"He’ll be here soon."
She sliced apples, glancing at the door. Su Yichuan watched her every move, saying nothing.
Time passed, but Mu Yunshen didn’t appear. Su Wan’s brow creased; she called him over and over, but he never answered. Neither Pi Zi nor Li Man had seen him either.
As darkness fell, Su Wan’s heart sank.
Su Yichuan, watching, said, "He doesn’t care about you at all. If he did, why wouldn’t he come to see me?"
"Impossible," Su Wan retorted. "He’ll come."
She waited the entire day, until all the other patients were asleep and the lights in the ward were dim.
After staring at her phone, Su Wan finally stood and left, driving straight to Mu Yunshen’s bar.
Pi Zi was chatting downstairs. Seeing Su Wan storm in, he rushed over. "Sister-in-law, what brings you here?"
"Where’s Mu Yunshen?" she demanded, face dark with anger. Before Pi Zi could answer, she pushed past him, heading inside.
"Sister-in-law, wait!"
He didn’t dare physically restrain her. She pushed open the door.
A strong smell of blood hit her.
She froze—Mu Yunshen was sitting on the floor, surrounded by blood-soaked bandages, blood streaming from his wounds.
He opened his eyes at the sound. Seeing her, he frowned and glanced at Pi Zi.
Pi Zi tried to pull Su Wan back, but she shook him off and approached Mu Yunshen.
"Do you know what today is?"
He looked at her. "It’s a mess in here. Go home."
"Go home?" Su Wan laughed coldly. "I waited all day for you at the hospital. I finally convinced my father, and you wouldn’t even show your face? Did you go out fighting again?"
"No, Sister-in-law, Brother Shen—" Pi Zi tried to explain, but Mu Yunshen cut him off. "Didn’t you hear me? Take her home!"
Su Wan’s fists clenched. "Fine. I’m leaving, right now!"
She turned and walked away.
Watching her go, Mu Yunshen felt a sharp pain in his chest. He tried to follow, but as soon as he stood, he collapsed and fainted.
Su Wan refused Pi Zi’s offer to drive her.
She sped through the streets, hands clenched on the wheel, veins bulging. But the thought of Mu Yunshen’s condition twisted her heart with pain.
She was going mad—she’d waited for him all day, finally convinced her father, and now his impression of Mu Yunshen would be even worse.
As she brooded, headlights flared in her face. Su Wan’s expression changed; she jerked the wheel hard—
—
When Bo Yezhou arrived at the police station, Su Wan was sitting at a table, a bandage around her head, eyes closed.
"Officer Bo," someone greeted him. He nodded and walked straight to Su Wan.
"Su Wan?"
She flinched at his voice, opened her eyes to glance at him, then turned to the officer across from her. "Can I go now?"
"You can."
Ignoring Bo Yezhou, she walked out. He followed. "Let me give you a ride."
"No need."
"You can’t drive like this."
"I can take a cab."
She turned, impatience etched on her face. He stared at her for a long moment, then suddenly pulled her into his car.
"What are you doing? Let go!"
She struggled, but he pressed her into the seat, buckled her in, and locked the door.
"Open the door! Let me out!" she growled.
He ignored her and floored the gas.
He didn’t speak the whole way, his expression grim and lips tight. Once, Su Wan would have tried her best to coax him, but now, she only felt annoyance.
When they reached her building, he stopped. Su Wan didn’t look at him, only reached for the door, but it was still locked.
She turned to find him staring at her intently. His gaze made her tense. Biting her lip, she demanded, "Open the door!"
"Now you see, don’t you? You and Mu Yunshen are incompatible. You want a peaceful life, but he’s destined for violence."
"What does it have to do with you?"
She had barely finished when Bo Yezhou grabbed her hand, pulling her close.
His breath was warm against her face. "Yes, what does it have to do with me? I’ve told myself a thousand times you were just a stepping stone, but why... why did I come back? Don’t you know?!"
