When Mu Yunshen first entered, he immediately saw Su Wan sitting there. In front of her was a whole row of empty beer bottles, and beside her was a man trying to strike up a conversation. Yet Su Wan didn’t even glance at him, simply drinking alone.

Mu Yunshen’s brow furrowed at once. “Why is she here?”

“What? Sister-in-law? I have no idea, I—” Pi Zi was just about to suggest having someone escort her out, but before he could finish, Mu Yunshen was already striding over.

Su Wan was drinking with enthusiasm when suddenly someone seized her arm and dragged her forward. She was momentarily stunned.

Then she began to struggle. “What are you doing? Let go! Why is it that wherever I go to drink, you always show up?”

She had deliberately run so far just to avoid him, yet somehow, he was still here!

Mu Yunshen simply pulled her along. Halfway there, Su Wan suddenly started to cry. “Let go! You’re hurting me!”

He stopped in his tracks and turned around. Tears streamed down Su Wan’s face. “My foot hurts!”

Only then did Mu Yunshen remember her foot was still healing, but glancing quickly around, he realized there was little time left.

He took a deep breath and swept Su Wan up into his arms.

“What are you doing? Put me down!”

“Shut up! If you say another word, I’ll kiss you!” Mu Yunshen’s eyes were fierce, and after Su Wan stared at him for a moment, she became even more aggrieved. “Why are you being so mean to me…”

Mu Yunshen could only sigh and set her down in the car. “Be good. Wait here for me, and no matter what happens, don’t come out. Do you hear me?”

“No! I want to drink!” The alcohol had gone to Su Wan’s head, and she was completely oblivious to the tense atmosphere around her.

“You—” Mu Yunshen hadn’t finished speaking when his expression suddenly changed. In a flash, he dove into the car.

He pressed Su Wan down beneath him. At first, she thought he was about to do something inappropriate and was about to shout, but suddenly something felt wrong. She reached out and touched—her hand came away wet with blood.

Looking outside, she saw a crowd wielding fruit knives, hacking at their windows.

Mu Yunshen cursed under his breath. After buckling Su Wan’s seatbelt, he slid into the driver’s seat and started the car.

Su Wan had never experienced such a crazed, breakneck car ride. She sobered up instantly, clutching the overhead handle tightly and looking at Mu Yunshen. “Where are we going?”

He didn’t answer, eyes fixed on the road ahead.

The further they drove, the more desolate it became. Behind them, motorcycles gave relentless chase.

Before long, they found themselves on a mountain road—only one lane wide, with no guardrails at the edge. Mu Yunshen’s reckless speed made Su Wan think that at any moment, they might plunge off the side.

As it turned out, she wasn’t wrong.

In the next instant, Su Wan heard a loud bang. The car jolted violently and slowed; a motorcycle squeezed up beside them, and the rider kicked their car hard. In the blink of an eye, their vehicle rolled off the road.

Su Wan couldn’t help but scream. In that moment, Mu Yunshen lunged forward, shielding her with his body.

She had no idea how many times the car rolled. All she knew was that the man before her was like a shield, holding her protectively in the midst of chaos and terror, giving her an unprecedented sense of safety.
