When Su Wan entered, she indeed saw Wen Shaoran and his father sitting there. Catching sight of Wen Shaoran’s bruised and swollen face, Su Wan paused, then inexplicably felt a sense of satisfaction and even allowed herself a slight smile.

“Kneel!” Su Yichuan sat there, so furious that his whole body was trembling.

Su Wan didn’t move. “Do you think I’ve done something wrong?”

“You still believe you’ve done nothing wrong?” Su Yichuan pointed at Wen Shaoran. “Look at what you’ve done to Shaoran!”

“Then why don’t we let him speak first and explain what he did to me?”

She stared at Wen Shaoran, pronouncing each word deliberately.

Wen Shaoran stood up. “This is what happened, Uncle Su. Last night, when I had dinner with Wanwan, she drank a little too much and got drunk. I was worried you’d be concerned, so I thought I should take her to a hotel to rest. Perhaps she misunderstood because of that.”

“A misunderstanding? Then when I tried to call someone, why did you smash my phone?”

“That was just my hand slipping—absolutely nothing intentional.”

Su Wan let out a cold laugh and looked at Su Yichuan. “So you believe an outsider over your own daughter?”

“No matter what, apologize to him!”

“Dream on. I would rather die than apologize!” Su Wan lifted her chin defiantly. “And as for this engagement, I hereby declare it officially canceled!”

With those words, Su Wan turned and walked out.

Su Yichuan was so angry that he was shaking all over, shouting after her, but Su Wan didn’t look back. He turned to the two men in front of him. “Don’t worry, I will give you an explanation!”

Su Wan didn’t go back to the office. After getting a replacement phone and SIM card, she went to her apartment and slept away the whole afternoon, only to be roused by a ringing call.

Linda’s voice was more frantic than she had ever heard before. “President Su, the people from the prosecutor’s office are here. They want us to suspend all business operations and assist with their investigation!”

There was no need to ask—this had to be her deputy mayor father’s doing.

Su Wan’s hand tightened into a fist as she gritted her teeth. “Understood.”

She immediately called Su Yichuan. “So this is how you deal with your own daughter?”

“It’s not what I want either. The engagement has become the talk of the town, and with the Wen family’s backing—if I want my promotion before the new year…” Su Yichuan hadn’t finished speaking before Su Wan cut him off with a laugh.

“So in the end, it’s all for your own career, isn’t it? In your eyes, your career is more important than your daughter?”

“I just don’t see what’s so bad about Wen Shaoran!”

“There’s nothing good about him at all. Let me tell you—if you think you can force me with these tactics, forget it!”

With that, Su Wan hung up.

Soon, her phone rang again. Su Wan answered, shouting, “I already told you it’s impossible, and that’s final!”

“…It’s me.”

A gentle voice came from the other end, and Su Wan froze for a moment. Her first reaction was to hang up immediately.

How could it be him…

He called again. This time, Su Wan took a deep breath to steady herself before picking up. “What is it?”

“…I want to talk to you.”

“There’s nothing to talk about. If you have something to say, say it over the phone.”

“I heard about the situation between you and your father. Teacher has had a hard time all these years…”

“Shut up, Bo Yezhou.” Su Wan spoke through gritted teeth. “Even you want me to marry Wen Shaoran? Let me tell you, never! Besides, this is my business—it has nothing to do with you!”
