It was a long time before Su Wan found her voice again.

“Don’t worry,” she finally managed.

With those words, Su Wan hung up the phone. In that moment, she felt as though her stomach twisted in pain, her whole body tightening with it.

In the days that followed, Su Wan gradually returned to her routine of going to the office. To ease Linda’s burden, she simply moved into the company, arranging some rehabilitation equipment in her office. Often, the light in her office would burn bright throughout the night.

About a week after that evening, Su Wan received a call from Wen Shaoran.

“I’m back. About what you mentioned last time—let’s meet and talk in person.”

Su Wan didn’t refuse.

Though there could never be anything between her and Mu Yunshen, marrying Wen Shaoran was just as impossible.

Because of their engagement, Wen Shaoran had managed to secure the highly coveted North City Power Grid project, taking Wen Corporation to new heights. But as Su Wan had said before, once the project was in hand, their relationship would also come to an end.

Now, it seemed Wen Shaoran was keeping his word.

When Su Wan arrived at the restaurant, Wen Shaoran was already waiting. Noticing something odd about her foot, he immediately came forward. “Are you all right?”

Su Wan naturally avoided his hand. “I’m fine. I’ve almost recovered.”

“I heard it happened at the construction site in the mountains. What exactly happened? For something so serious, haven’t the police given any explanation?”

“It was just an accident,” Su Wan replied calmly, pulling out a chair and sitting down. “And you? Has the project been going smoothly?”

“Very smoothly.”

“Then, about us—”

“Let’s order first,” Wen Shaoran interrupted. “You don’t look well. Haven’t been resting properly lately?”

“I’m fine,” Su Wan said, wanting to continue, but Wen Shaoran had already called over the waiter to order.

Su Wan had to hold her tongue. After the waiter left, she spoke up immediately. “About us—”

“I know,” Wen Shaoran cut her off. “Have this last meal with me. That isn’t too much to ask, is it?”

He was sincere, quite different from how Su Wan had seen him before. And since she was already there, she didn’t refuse and simply nodded.

Wen Shaoran ordered a bottle of wine, poured her a little, and raised his glass. “Don’t worry. Tomorrow, I’ll clarify everything to the media. The two of us… are just ordinary friends.”

“Thank you,” Su Wan said sincerely, lifting her glass as well.

Her stomach was still unsettled, so she only took a sip before setting the glass down.

Wen Shaoran glanced at her and smiled. “Eat. Have a bit more—you look thinner.”

“All right.”

They were having Chinese cuisine. Wen Shaoran kept adding dishes to her plate, his gestures intimate. Su Wan could clearly feel the stares from those around them, so she sped up her meal.

Seeing this, Wen Shaoran said, “Have some soup.”

He ladled a bowl and set it before her. This time, Su Wan finished it.

Wen Shaoran smiled and called the waiter for the check.

Since Su Wan couldn’t drive, Wen Shaoran volunteered to take her home. Just as Su Wan was about to decline, she suddenly felt dizzy.

She held her head. “What’s happening? I…”

“Maybe it’s the wine. Come, let me take you home,” Wen Shaoran said, reaching out and, before Su Wan could protest, scooping her up in his arms.
