“When Gu Yan started getting close to Shen, we all thought there was something off about her. We even warned him, but he wouldn’t listen. Can you imagine it? A man like him—over six feet tall, with dozens of brothers on the street—yet in front of everyone, he would change her shoes, tie her laces, and because of her, he made enemies left and right.”

“She was beautiful, truly. She had Shen completely bewitched. And then… that night—you were there, weren’t you? She stabbed Shen, right in the chest, then ran. Only afterwards did we realize she had always belonged to one of Shen’s sworn enemies. She got close to him just to seduce him.”

Su Wan only knew a little about this incident—just the part that concerned her.

At that time, she was busy running around for her company. Nearly every night was spent in one club or another. That night, she’d been forced to drink far too much, and as she staggered into the parking lot, she stumbled upon an indecent scene.

She immediately tried to back away, but after only a few steps, a muffled groan caught her attention. She turned—and saw that the man who’d been pressed against the woman just moments before was now sprawled on the ground, blood pooling beneath him.

That man was Mu Yunshen.

As for the woman, Su Wan hadn’t seen her face.

Now, it seemed clear—the woman must have been Gu Yan.

Li Man glanced at her and said, “None of us could swallow what happened, but Shen wouldn’t let any of us go after Gu Yan. He wouldn’t hear a word against her, either.”

“Tell me, do you think Shen really cared about her, more than anything?”

Su Wan was at a loss for words.

Li Man finished her story and stood up. “I have something to take care of. I’ll be going.”

Su Wan only nodded, unable to muster any other reaction.

She sat in the café for another two hours. It wasn’t until a waiter politely came over to inform her they were closing up that she finally stood and left.

She drove home.

Mu Yunshen was still sitting in the living room. When he saw her come in, he stood. “You’re back?”

Su Wan glanced at him and murmured a response.

He watched her change her shoes. “Have you eaten?”

“I have.”

“Liar,” Mu Yunshen said, turning into the kitchen. “I made you a bowl of noodles. Hurry up and eat, or your stomach will start hurting again.”

“When are you leaving?”

Her sudden question made Mu Yunshen pause and look at her. “Hmm?”

“Your wound’s healed, hasn’t it? When are you planning to go?”

He snapped back to himself. “So eager to kick me out?”

“It’s not convenient for you to stay here, is it?” Su Wan looked at the noodles in his hand but didn’t move closer. “And you don’t need my care anymore.”

With that, she went straight into her room. As she was about to close the door, Mu Yunshen suddenly stepped forward and pressed his hand against it, stopping her.

Su Wan frowned at him.

“What’s wrong with you?” Mu Yunshen’s face darkened. “I haven’t even gotten angry at you for leaving me on the roadside, and now you’re upset with me?”

“I’m not upset,” Su Wan said, taking a deep breath.

“I’m not blind, you know. Tell me, who made you angry? I’ll go teach them a lesson!”

Su Wan looked up at him. “So anyone who bullies me, you won’t let them off?”

“Of course.”

“Fine, her name is Gu Yan.”

Mu Yunshen’s expression changed instantly, darkening in a flash. “What did you say?”
