“Of course I’m fine. Look at me—don’t I seem lively as ever?” Mu Yunshen grinned carelessly, wrapping an arm around Su Wan as he started to walk away. Suddenly, a voice called out, “Shen.”

Mu Yunshen stiffened instantly.

Su Wan was the first to turn her head, and there she saw the woman who had been stealing glances at her since they’d arrived.

Mu Yunshen’s arm slid slowly from Su Wan’s shoulders.

“What are you doing here?” His brows drew together, his tone unreadable.

The woman bit her lip, glanced at Su Wan, then stepped forward. “I heard you were hurt and coming in for a check-up today, so… I wanted to see you.”

Mu Yunshen seemed to give a faint smile, then handed the prescription slip to Su Wan. “Be good, go get my medicine for me, then wait in the car.”

Su Wan looked at him, then at the woman, and nodded.

When she reached the end of the corridor, she couldn’t help glancing back. She caught sight of the woman removing her sunglasses and throwing herself into Mu Yunshen’s arms.

Su Wan’s brows knit tightly together. She pinched her own palm hard, forcing herself to resist the urge to rush over.

Following Mu Yunshen’s instructions, Su Wan collected the medicine and returned to the car.

She waited nearly half an hour before Mu Yunshen finally emerged. His expression was dark and somber.

Su Wan kept her head down, pretending not to notice.

Mu Yunshen slipped into the passenger seat without a word.

Su Wan didn't speak either. In silence, she started the car and backed out of the parking spot.

Su Wan wasn’t fond of perfume, but just then the car was filled with a sharp, overpowering scent. She rolled down the window.

Mu Yunshen rolled it back up.

Su Wan rolled it down again.

He looked over at her. “Can you leave it closed?”

“No,” she forced out through clenched teeth.

Mu Yunshen fell silent, said nothing more, and simply pulled his jacket up over his face, closing his eyes.

That sight suddenly stoked Su Wan’s anger.

She slammed on the brakes.

His jacket slipped down, and he looked at her in confusion. “What are you doing?”

“I just remembered I need to go to the office.”

“…Then I’ll just head home by myself.” With that, Mu Yunshen opened the car door and got out, his movements so fluid that Su Wan’s body trembled with rage.

She didn't say anything. The moment he shut the door, she floored the gas and drove off.

She spent the entire afternoon unable to accomplish a single task.

He, apparently, could also go the whole time without calling her, not even once.

Grinding her teeth in frustration, Su Wan deliberated for a long while before finally calling Li Man. “That Gu Yan you mentioned last time… who is she?”

When Li Man saw Su Wan, she immediately let out a laugh. That knowing, all-seeing smile made Su Wan uncomfortable, but she sat down anyway.

Li Man looked at her. “I used to think you didn’t care at all!”

Su Wan pressed her lips together. “How do you know I care now?”

“If you didn’t, why would you come to me?”

Li Man stirred her coffee. “There’s nothing wrong with admitting it, you know. After all, you’re Shen’s girlfriend now. It would be strange if you didn’t care, wouldn’t it?”

“What do you know?”

Li Man gave her a lingering glance. “You could say Gu Yan was the first version of you.”

“?”

“The first one of us who thought Shen was the rarest treasure in the world.”
