Chapter 28: Are You Regretting It?
Su Wan naturally wouldn’t actually bathe him. After finding him some toiletries, she walked out.
Mu Yunshen’s injury was to his lower abdomen; the doctor had said one stab almost pierced him through entirely. When he was brought to the hospital, he was covered in blood. But Mu Yunshen himself didn’t seem to care at all; the fact that he insisted on leaving the hospital today made that clear.
Su Wan hadn’t asked him why he was hurt, because she knew that even if she did, he might not tell her.
When Su Wan finished tidying up the kitchen and went back inside, Mu Yunshen was sitting on her bed, holding her photo album.
“You looked so beautiful when you were younger!” Mu Yunshen pointed to a picture of her—her graduation photo.
Su Wan deliberately put on a stern face. “It’s only been three years since I graduated.”
“Mm, you’re even more beautiful now,” Mu Yunshen said with a smile.
Su Wan sat down beside him. “Do you need to change your bandages?”
“No need, I’ve already changed them. This kind of injury is nothing.”
Su Wan looked at him, and finally spoke. “Why… did you choose this path?”
Mu Yunshen paused, then let out a muted laugh.
Su Wan frowned at him. “Hmm?”
“You’ve wanted to ask me that for a long time, haven’t you?” Mu Yunshen leaned back against the bed.
Su Wan didn’t answer, which was answer enough.
Mu Yunshen narrowed his eyes and said, “After I was expelled from school back then, I couldn’t find a job. Someone happened to be willing to take me in, so I started doing it.”
“Why… were you expelled?”
Mu Yunshen glanced at her. “Fighting. Brawling.”
Su Wan fell silent.
“Do you really regret it now?” he asked.
Hearing his words, Su Wan finally looked at him. “Hmm?”
“Do you regret being with me?”
Su Wan shook her head. “Before all this, I already knew who you were, so I don’t regret it.”
Mu Yunshen smiled and gazed ahead. “I thought your next words would be to persuade me—tell me to stop fighting and killing, and settle down with you.”
“Would you?”
Mu Yunshen looked at her. “No.”
He answered simply, just as Su Wan had expected.
She smiled, stood up. “Get some rest. I’ll sleep in the guest room.”
Just as she rose, Mu Yunshen reached out, grabbing her arm.
Su Wan turned her head; Mu Yunshen raised an eyebrow. “Let’s sleep together. In my current state, I couldn’t do anything to you even if I wanted to.”
Su Wan had meant to refuse, but Mu Yunshen was insistent. She had no choice but to lie down beside him.
Of course, it was only sleep.
During those few days, Su Wan worked during the day. When she came home at night, Mu Yunshen was either watching movies or asleep. The first thing he always said to her was, “I’m hungry.”
Fortunately, though his own life was sloppy, he behaved himself at her place; he didn’t leave things or trash lying around.
A week later, Su Wan accompanied him to the hospital for a follow-up.
While Mu Yunshen was inside, Su Wan waited outside.
She was scrolling through her social feed when she suddenly sensed a gaze lingering on her.
Su Wan looked up. The person wore sunglasses, and upon noticing her attention, immediately turned their eyes away.
That evasive, conspicuous manner made Su Wan’s brow furrow.
She put away her phone and was about to approach, when Mu Yunshen came out from the office.
Su Wan immediately turned toward him. “How did it go?”
