Chapter 27: Help Me Bathe
When Su Wan returned, she immediately received a call from Mu Yunshen, asking her why she had suddenly hung up. Gritting her teeth, Su Wan replied, “I’m fine. Focus on getting better.” With that, she hung up again and entered the elevator.
The lights in the corridor were broken, so Su Wan turned on the flashlight on her phone. Just as she was about to unlock her door, a hand suddenly reached out from behind and grabbed her.
Startled, Su Wan spun around and found the person standing behind her, grinning mischievously.
When she recognized his face, Su Wan ground her teeth. “Are you trying to scare me to death?”
“Where did you go?” Mu Yunshen ignored her question.
“That’s none of your business.” Su Wan opened the door, and Mu Yunshen slipped inside after her with such practiced ease that she stared at him, dumbfounded. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“I’ve been discharged from the hospital, but my wound hasn’t healed yet. I’ll stay here and recuperate for a while,” Mu Yunshen replied as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Su Wan’s expression shifted wildly as she listened. “You mean… you want me to take care of you?”
“Of course. Aren’t you my woman? Who else should look after me if not you?” Having said this, Mu Yunshen wandered deeper into the apartment, opened a door, and upon confirming it was Su Wan’s bedroom, went right in.
Su Wan rushed after him. “Wait—”
But Mu Yunshen paid her no mind, lying down directly on her bed. “This is so comfortable. The beds at the hospital nearly ruined my back.”
Su Wan was furious. “Get up! Right now!”
“Why?”
“Don’t sleep in my bed!”
“Why not?”
“Do you really not know why?” Mu Yunshen looked up at her. “It’ll be mine sooner or later anyway.”
Su Wan had never met anyone so shameless. She reached out to pull him up, but Mu Yunshen suddenly let out a pained hiss.
Su Wan jumped in alarm. “What’s wrong?”
“My wound hurts.”
She had no choice but to let go. Mu Yunshen pressed a hand to his abdomen. “I’m hungry. Could you make me something to eat?”
How could she have forgotten just how shameless he was? After glaring at him for a long while, she finally surrendered to the pitiful look in his eyes and turned to cook.
The clatter of pots and pans came from the kitchen. Mu Yunshen couldn’t help but smile, the corners of his mouth lifting. His eyes drifted over and landed on a photograph Su Wan had left on her bedside table.
It was of her and her father.
Mu Yunshen’s smile faded immediately.
—
Su Wan cooked two bowls of noodles. As soon as Mu Yunshen sat down, he wolfed them down as if he hadn’t eaten in days.
Watching him, Su Wan asked, “Why are you recuperating here?”
“If I stayed in the hospital, you’d have to come visit me every day. Seeing you run around like that tires me out just thinking about it. Isn’t it much better for me to stay here?” He spoke so smoothly that Su Wan’s face flushed bright red. After a long moment of silence, she bit out, “Who said I’d take care of you anyway?”
Mu Yunshen looked at her with a sly smile. “You’re my girlfriend. If you don’t take care of me, who will? Or would you rather I go back and let Li Man look after me?”
“No way!” Su Wan blurted out without thinking. The moment the words left her mouth, she saw Mu Yunshen’s smile grow even more triumphant.
Su Wan stood abruptly. “I don’t have time to waste on you.”
She turned to leave, but Mu Yunshen grabbed her hand.
Her steps faltered, and when she turned back, Mu Yunshen was gazing at her intently. “I haven’t showered since yesterday. I feel terrible. Can you help me take a bath?”
