Chapter 26: He’s the Only One I Love
When Su Wan entered, Su Yichuan was sitting on the sofa in the living room, holding a cup of tea in his hand, his face devoid of emotion.
Yet even so, it was enough to make Su Wan’s heart skip a beat.
She walked over slowly.
“Dad.”
“Where have you been?”
“…The hospital.”
Su Wan knew she couldn’t hide this from him, nor did she want to. Just as she finished speaking, Su Yichuan raised his hand and threw the tea cup onto the floor!
With a sharp crack, Su Wan saw even the butler who always stayed by her father’s side pale slightly.
Su Wan looked at him. “He was hurt. I went to see him.”
Su Yichuan stared at her. “Are you determined to oppose me? Your marriage to Wen Shaoran has already been announced!”
“I will handle the engagement myself.” Su Wan took a deep breath and said, “Dad, right now, I only want to be with him.”
“You’re being utterly unreasonable!” Su Yichuan was trembling with rage. “Your mother passed away early, and all these years, haven’t I given you everything you ever wanted? Everyone knows who I am, but my daughter—Su Yichuan’s daughter—has fallen for a thug. Do you want the entire North City to see me as a laughingstock?”
“He’s not a thug. Besides, he once saved your life.” Su Wan met his gaze steadily.
“If not for that, I would’ve had him arrested long ago!” Su Yichuan gritted his teeth. “So what? I could give him anything he wanted, except my daughter. He can forget about that!”
He looked at Su Wan and continued, “No matter what, I will never agree!”
“I’m not here to ask for your approval.” Su Wan stood up, saying, “Dad, please trust my choice. If I really listened to you and married Wen Shaoran, that would be the start of my misfortune. You’re smart enough to guess Wen Shaoran’s real reason for wanting to marry me, aren’t you?”
Su Yichuan said nothing, but his eyes remained fixed on Su Wan.
Su Wan bowed to him. “I’ll have the media clarify the engagement. Please take care of yourself. I’m leaving now.”
With that, she didn’t wait for his reply and walked straight out.
Su Yichuan, who had been sitting upright, suddenly relaxed, leaning back on the sofa and breathing heavily.
The butler stepped forward. “Sir, Miss is so determined. Why not let her have her way? Besides, that young man looked quite decent the other day…”
“What do you know!” Su Yichuan scolded in a low voice. “Didn’t you hear what he said that day? His superior is Old Bai!”
The butler’s face changed instantly.
Su Yichuan glanced at the doorway. “Go investigate that young man’s background!”
—
When Su Wan left the mansion, she felt refreshed. Passing by a restaurant, she went in to pack a few dishes to take to the hospital.
On her way, Su Wan couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was watching her. Whenever she turned around, however, she saw nothing.
She frowned deeply.
Pushing open the door to the hospital room, she found it empty—even the bed was deserted.
Her expression changed as she grabbed a nurse passing by. “Where’s the patient from this room?”
“He’s been discharged—just left.”
Su Wan immediately called Mu Yunshen. “Where are you?”
“Oh, I was discharged. Forgot to tell you.”
“You—” Su Wan was both exasperated and amused. She hung up at once, and in her frustration, tossed everything she was carrying into the trash.
“Scoundrel,” she muttered, and walked straight out.
Once she entered the elevator, the person hiding in the corridor finally stepped out slowly.
