Chapter 18: What Does It Have to Do with You?
“Mu Yunshen, what are you doing here?” As soon as Brother Dao saw who had arrived, his expression instantly darkened.
Mu Yunshen simply smiled. “Brother Dao, that’s quite a question. Deputy Mayor Su is celebrating his birthday, and Old Bai asked me to attend and offer congratulations in his stead. Is there anything wrong with that?”
After Mu Yunshen finished speaking, Brother Dao’s expression became even uglier. Still, he pressed on, “I don’t care how you got here. Tonight Su Yichuan must die, so get out of my way!”
Just as Brother Dao finished speaking, a sudden burst of police sirens echoed through the air.
His face changed abruptly. “Impossible! Who the hell called the police?!”
He had already ordered the signal to be jammed here; tonight, he was determined to make Su Yichuan die. How could anyone have managed to call the police?
Mu Yunshen smiled and said, “When there’s a problem, of course you look for the police. I was the one who made the call.”
“Fine, Mu Yunshen. You just wait—you’ll regret this! Let’s go!”
...
When the police stormed in, the hall was in utter chaos, everyone looking as if they had been scared out of their wits. Upon seeing Mu Yunshen standing there, the captain immediately strode over. “You again!”
“That’s right, me again. But this time, Captain Zhang, you should be thanking me. I’m the one who called for help!”
Captain Zhang was in no mood for his banter. He went straight to Su Yichuan’s side. “I’m sorry, Deputy Mayor. This was our oversight.”
“It’s all right. I thought only my friends would come tonight, so I told my guards to stand down. Who would have expected this...”
As Su Yichuan spoke, he turned to Mu Yunshen. “Tell me, who sent you?”
Before Mu Yunshen could answer, Captain Zhang interjected. “Deputy Mayor, this man is a common thug. I’ll take him back for interrogation right away!”
“I called the police, and you still want to interrogate me?”
“Save it. Take him away!”
Mu Yunshen had no choice but to obediently extend his hands and let them cuff him.
Su Wan had been watching from the sidelines all along.
Su Yichuan took her hand. “Wanwan, you must have been frightened tonight. We—”
“Dad, I just remembered something I have to do. I’ll go home first.”
Without waiting for his reply, Su Wan hurried off in pursuit.
Wen Shaoran, who had been watching nearby, stepped up to Su Yichuan. “Uncle, do you remember what I told you last time? That man just now is the delinquent who’s been making Su Wan lose her head!”
“What did you say?” Su Yichuan’s face darkened at once!
—
Su Wan drove herself to the police station.
She didn’t go inside, just waited at the entrance.
All these years, because of her father’s position, there had been no shortage of people trying to take his life—but those tonight...
Su Wan stopped herself from thinking further, her eyes fixed on the station’s door.
About an hour later, Mu Yunshen finally emerged.
He had taken off his jacket and slung it over his shoulder, his tie nowhere in sight, the buttons of his shirt undone, his whole appearance disheveled as he walked forward.
Su Wan pressed the car horn.
Hearing the sound, Mu Yunshen turned his head.
Recognizing Su Wan’s car, he slowly walked over.
“Tofu?”
That was the first thing he said after getting in, leaving Su Wan momentarily stunned. “What tofu?”
“Don’t you know? The first thing anyone does after coming out of the police station is eat tofu.”
Su Wan didn’t know and hadn’t prepared any. The words she’d meant to say were now stuck in her throat.
Mu Yunshen glanced at her. “All right, never mind if you didn’t bring any. I’m tired anyway—drive me home.”
With that, he prepared to lie back. Watching him, Su Wan clenched her teeth and asked, “Did tonight’s incident have anything to do with you?”
