Chapter 16: You Are His Daughter?
Su Wan turned her head. Li Man had already sat down beside her. "Hm?"
"This doesn't really concern you," Su Wan took a deep breath and said.
Li Man glanced at her and laughed, "No concern? Well, perhaps not. I thought you might have actually listened to what I told you yesterday."
"This is between us."
"I heard that yesterday, at the parking lot, you saved Shen," Li Man suddenly remarked.
Su Wan stiffened.
Li Man continued, "Did you see that woman? The one who betrayed Shen, yet he still can't bear to harm her. Do you know why Shen is suddenly so good to you? What do you think his reason is?"
Su Wan looked at the woman before her and suddenly smiled.
That smile made Li Man frown. "Why are you smiling?"
"So you're here to persuade me, are you?" Su Wan glanced at her wine glass. "You want me to give up? Then tell me—under what authority?"
Li Man's expression turned ugly. Su Wan drained her glass in one gulp. "I know exactly what I'm doing. Thank you for the warning, Miss Li!"
Li Man shot to her feet. "Ungrateful!"
With those words, she turned and left.
Su Wan didn't look at her. But that night, she never saw Mu Yunshen.
She sat in the bar until closing, waiting, but he never appeared. From that night onward, Mu Yunshen seemed to vanish from her world, leaving no trace.
Wen Shaoran, as if suddenly enlightened, stopped troubling her. Her company returned to normal operations, and a million yuan was quickly restored to the card he had given her. Yet Su Wan could never find the opportunity to return it.
Three months passed in a flash.
It was Su Wan's father's sixtieth birthday.
Ever since the last incident with Wen Shaoran, a rift had formed between them. Still, as his only daughter, Su Wan attended the celebration.
Su Yichuan, deputy mayor of the Northern City, although usually discreet, attracted many guests that night. Su Wan wore a sweet and demure little dress, weaving through the crowd, responding to their compliments and blessings with perfunctory smiles.
Wen Shaoran came as well. Su Wan nodded to him politely and turned her gaze away. People nearby probed about her relationship with Wen Shaoran, but Su Wan only replied, "You'll know soon enough."
As her words fell, she saw someone enter through the door.
Her eyes widened slowly.
He was dressed in a white suit, his tie perfectly knotted, his fringe brushed back to reveal handsome features. At first glance, he looked every bit the young nobleman.
Why was he here!?
He took a glass of wine from a passing waiter, smiling and greeting those around him, completely at ease—almost as if he belonged in such an occasion.
Su Wan watched him intently.
Noticing her gaze, Mu Yunshen looked over as well. For a brief moment, his smile faltered, then returned, and he began walking toward her.
Su Wan clenched the glass in her hand, but her face remained composed as she watched him approach.
"Why are you here?" he spoke first.
Su Wan curled her lips. "Why shouldn't I be? This is my father's birthday banquet."
In that instant, she saw clear astonishment in Mu Yunshen's eyes. His voice was low, "You're Mayor Su's daughter?"
