Chapter 15: I Am Not Worthy of You
Hearing Su Wan's words, Mu Yunshen wasn't angered; instead, he even chuckled. "I can be even more shameless, would you like to know how?" As soon as he finished speaking, he leaned in closer, and Su Wan instinctively closed her eyes.
Seeing her reaction, Mu Yunshen couldn't help but laugh. "Seems like you're not that averse to it after all."
Su Wan realized she had fallen for his trick. She pushed him away forcefully and, without caring which floor the elevator had stopped on, strode straight out.
Mu Yunshen followed behind her.
Su Wan lived on the seventh floor, but the elevator had stopped at the fifteenth. Unwilling to return to the elevator, she simply took the stairs.
It was late at night, and the sound of her high heels echoed crisply in the stairwell. Mu Yunshen trailed behind her, his pace unhurried.
Annoyed, Su Wan couldn't help but quicken her steps.
Perhaps she truly was having a streak of bad luck, for as she reached a few steps below, her foot slipped!
The pain she expected never came. When Su Wan opened her eyes, Mu Yunshen was frowning down at her, his arms wrapped tightly around her. "Can't even manage stairs?"
Su Wan tried to pull her hand away, but Mu Yunshen bent down and scooped her up entirely.
"What are you doing? Put me down!"
"Don’t move, or I’ll just toss you down," Mu Yunshen's eyes darkened, as if he truly might do it. Only then did Su Wan fall silent, though she still gritted her teeth.
"Li Man just likes to spout nonsense—why bother listening to her?" Mu Yunshen said as he walked, "Or is it that things aren’t going well at your company, so you’ve decided to take it out on me instead?"
"How do you know that?" Su Wan looked at him warily.
Mu Yunshen glanced at her. "People like you from high society love to frequent my club. After a few drinks, is there anything you all don't spill?"
As his words fell, they reached the seventh floor.
Mu Yunshen set her down.
"You say there can’t be anything between us. I understand. The ideal man you want is probably someone as lofty as yourself, right? As for me, Mu Yunshen, at best I'm just a rascal. As for the money, don’t worry about paying me back—I don’t need it."
With that, Mu Yunshen turned and walked away. Su Wan watched, wanting to run after him, but he moved quickly. By the time she started forward, he had already entered the elevator.
Su Wan froze in place.
Her hand clenched tightly.
It was as if the warmth from his embrace still lingered on her.
She hadn’t known him long, but every time, Mu Yunshen always seemed so carefree and heartless. Yet just now, in his eyes, Su Wan thought she caught a fleeting trace of... sadness?
Su Wan gritted her teeth, turned, and entered her apartment.
Her father was the deputy mayor. Though he had never demanded that her boyfriend be a perfect match in status, someone like Mu Yunshen... He would never approve, would he?
But... but!
Suddenly, Su Wan spun around, slipped her heels back on, and rushed out the door.
When she got downstairs, Mu Yunshen's car was already gone. Su Wan called him.
No answer.
She bit her lip, got into her own car.
She didn't know where he might have gone, but there was only one place she could think to look for him.
Tonight’s bartender wasn’t the same as the one from the night before, and he didn’t recognize Su Wan. When she asked for a drink, he handed her a prepared cocktail.
"I... I want to see Mu Yunshen," Su Wan said directly as he was about to attend to other customers.
Before he could reply, another voice chimed in, "What do you want with Brother Shen?"
