As expected, Wen Shaoran kept his word. The next day, Su Wan received a call from the factory saying they were raising their prices, and the logistics company informed her that her shipments would be delayed. Su Wan’s company had only just started out. If Wen Shaoran was determined to suppress her, she didn’t stand a chance.

Her secretary noticed something was off and tried, in a roundabout way, to persuade Su Wan to soften her attitude and say a few gentle words to Wen Shaoran. Su Wan didn’t even spare her a glance.

A few days later, the factory had yet to complete even half the order, while their client was already pressing them for delivery. Su Wan was furious, but there was nothing she could do. It was then that Wen Shaoran sent her a message, warning that if she insisted until the end of the month, he wouldn’t stop at this. Su Wan simply blocked his number.

After work, Su Wan didn’t return to her apartment but went to a bar instead.

It was just the start of nightlife in Beicheng, and the entire bar was a chaotic whirl of revelers. Su Wan sat down in a corner.

Someone at the bar recognized her. “Sister Su!”

Su Wan shielded her face. “I’m just here for a drink.”

Her words sounded suspiciously like she was covering something up. The bartender smiled and handed her a glass of soda water. “Brother Shen instructed us—not to serve you alcohol if you come in.”

Su Wan was momentarily stunned. As she gazed at the glass, a voice sounded beside her. “After all this time, it’s rare to see Brother Shen care about someone so much.”

Su Wan turned and recognized a somewhat familiar woman. This was the woman who had helped her out in the private room that night.

Catching Su Wan’s expression, the woman smiled and took a seat beside her. “Li Man.”

“Hello.” Su Wan nodded. “Thank you for that night.”

“I was just following Brother Shen’s orders,” Li Man replied as she lit a cigarette, sounding almost absent-minded. “By the way, what’s your relationship with Brother Shen?”

Su Wan frowned slightly and said nothing.

Li Man glanced at her and laughed. “You don’t need to think about how to answer. I can see it—Brother Shen cares about you.”

“But he cares about everyone,” Li Man quickly added. “Everyone at our club is looked after by him. Everyone knows Mu Yunshen is gentle, considerate, and generous.”

Su Wan didn’t know why Li Man was telling her this, but she kept her patience.

“Did you come here tonight to see him?” Li Man asked.

Su Wan shook her head. “No.”

“Then what are you here for?”

“Can’t I just come for a drink?”

“Of course you can.” Li Man stubbed out her cigarette. “Don’t take it the wrong way—it’s just how I am.”

Su Wan didn’t answer. She lowered her head and took a sip of the soda water. Whether it was the taste or something else, she felt as if something was stuck in her throat.

Li Man glanced at her. “It’s time for me to go. But since fate brought us together tonight, let me say this: you and he are not on the same path. Don’t fall for him—it won’t do you any good.”

Su Wan’s hand froze, and when she turned, Li Man had already disappeared.

She looked at the glass of soda water in front of her, settled her bill, and left.

Just as she reached the door, she nearly collided with someone striding in. The person caught her hand at once. “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”

Su Wan pulled her hand free with force. “You people are really something. I just came in for a drink—do I have to announce it to the world?”

With that, she didn’t wait for a reply and turned to leave.

Mu Yunshen felt baffled but hurried after her. “What’s wrong?”
