Su Wan and Wen Shaoran had been heading toward marriage from the very start.

Her father was the deputy mayor of North City, and the Wen family owned one of the city's most prominent conglomerates. By all accounts, their union was a perfect match. When her ailing father expressed his wish for her to marry Wen Shaoran, Su Wan did not protest much.

They had been seeing each other for more than half a year. Su Wan could not claim to be deeply in love, but at the very least, she had never wronged him.

What Wen Shaoran had done this time utterly disgusted her. No matter how much her father insisted, she would never marry him.

Lately, work had been so consuming that she barely ate. She had originally planned to treat herself to a good meal at home, but after Wen Shaoran's outburst, she lost all appetite.

Predictably, her chronic stomach ailment flared up in the middle of the night.

The pain brought tears to her eyes. She rummaged through the medicine box but could not find any stomach medicine. Left with no choice, she threw on some clothes and went to a nearby twenty-four-hour pharmacy.

Stepping out of the pharmacy, Su Wan realized how eerily deserted the street was. Walking alone, she felt a chill creep into her heart.

She quickened her pace, but just as she neared her apartment complex, a hand shot out, blocking her path.

She looked up to see two men with shifty eyes and an air of hooliganism.

“Hey, little lady, where are you off to at this hour?” one of them drawled.

Su Wan frowned and took a step back.

The other man grabbed her arm. “Can't sleep either, huh? How about we keep you company?”

They reeked of alcohol. In her haste, Su Wan had only brought her wallet—she didn’t even have her phone.

She lowered her gaze. “Sorry, I don’t have time. Please let me go.”

“Don’t have time?” the man sneered. “You’re young—you should enjoy life a little. Come with us, we’ll take you somewhere you’ve never been.”

As soon as he finished, they tried to drag her away. Panic surged within her and she shouted for help, but in the dead of night, not a soul was around. Hearing her cries, the two men simply clamped a hand over her mouth.

Su Wan bit the hand holding her and broke free, spinning around to run.

True fear gripped her.

She ran as fast as she could. When a motorcycle approached, she was too terrified to dodge and collapsed right onto the street.

“Damn, can’t you—” the rider started, but before he could finish, another man dismounted and tapped his head sharply.

That man quickly strode to Su Wan’s side. “Su Wan? Are you alright?”

Su Wan looked up, peered at his face, and seized him tightly. “Mu… Mu Yunshen.”

Mu Yunshen had always seen her as calm and collected, but seeing her like this now, he couldn’t help but chuckle. “What happened to you?”

“Who are you?” someone demanded.

Before Su Wan could answer, the two men had already caught up. Mu Yunshen glanced at them, then at Su Wan, and immediately understood.

He helped Su Wan to her feet and turned to the rider. “Pi Zi, they’re all yours.”

“Got it. Hey, Shen, leave me the bike!” Pi Zi called after him.

Mu Yunshen ignored him. After securing a helmet on Su Wan, he whisked her away.

He didn’t drive fast, but it was Su Wan’s first time on such a powerful motorcycle. She clung tightly to the metal bar behind her, not daring to let her body touch his.

Sensing her unease, Mu Yunshen deliberately accelerated into a sharp turn.

Caught off guard, Su Wan lurched forward—and instinctively wrapped her arms around him.
