Chapter Thirty-Four: Abduction
Yingyue turned around, wearing a look that suggested she was staring at an idiot as she gazed at Xiahou Yu, making him even more frustrated. Was it really necessary to look at him with such disdain just because she didn’t know something? Helplessly, he rubbed his nose.
Yingyue smiled faintly and said, “Yu, the contract was signed just as agreed. We’ve accomplished our purpose for this trip, so what’s there to be unhappy about?” Tilting her head, she looked at him with puzzlement. “Besides, I even received a gift. Of course I’m happy.” Yingyue beamed and let her fingers brush the box again.
Seeing Xiahou Yu still bewildered, she grew exasperated. “Yu, I think you should take some Brain Platinum.” Her tone was full of seriousness and concern, but a hint of laughter lingered beneath her words.
Xiahou Yu considered for a moment, then nodded solemnly. He really did need some supplements—lately, work and this girl’s personal matters had worn him out completely. The more he thought about it, the more he nodded in agreement.
Yingyue tried so hard to stifle her laughter that her face turned crimson, but she managed to keep quiet. When had she ever noticed before that Yu could be so amusing?
But why Brain Platinum and not Golden Partner? After all, Brain Platinum was meant for the elderly!
Lifting her eyes to glance at Yingyue, Xiahou Yu caught sight of her flushed cheeks and the irrepressible amusement lighting her face. In an instant, his own handsome face turned bright red. Yingyue immediately ran off, with Xiahou Yu in hot pursuit, calling after her, “Why isn’t it Golden Partner? Brain Platinum is for old people!”
Yingyue was running ahead when she suddenly stumbled, couldn’t help but glance back at Xiahou Yu, and then burst out laughing. Was Yu still considering himself a teenager?
A peal of silvery laughter drifted from ahead, making Xiahou Yu even more flustered. He hadn’t said anything wrong, had he?
Still, though he didn’t know why Yingyue was laughing, seeing her happy lifted his own spirits.
Once they left the grounds of “Waterlily Garden,” Yingyue decided to visit Venice. Ever since she’d ridden a gondola in the garden, she’d become entirely enamored with those quaint little boats and the calm she felt drifting along in one.
As they walked, every time Yingyue looked at Xiahou Yu, a smile she couldn’t hide would play about her eyes, leaving him at a loss for words.
They strolled the streets of Rome, admiring the exotic scenery. Naturally, passersby occasionally tried to chat them up.
But plans, as always, could not keep up with change.
That evening, after dinner, when they returned to their room to rest, Yingyue disappeared.
Xiahou Yu was stunned.
This was a disaster—before that person even needed to act, he was ready to end things himself! Heavens, how could he have been so careless? He knew perfectly well that many people had their eyes on Yingyue, yet he hadn’t taken extra precautions, and now he’d lost her.
Xiahou Yu struck himself hard, but it did nothing to ease his guilt. After a while, he jolted back to his senses—this wasn’t the time for self-reproach; finding Yingyue was what mattered now.
He quickly made a call, instructing his subordinates to search, then headed toward the underground parking lot himself.
Perhaps he should also call that person.
After a few steps, he hesitated. Maybe he should call Yu Wenxi too—after all, they were boyfriend and girlfriend now.
When Arthur learned that Yingyue had gone missing in Rome, he locked himself in his bedroom and didn’t come out, instructing the butler that no one was to enter without his permission.
Maria, upon hearing the news, was so delighted she nearly broke into a dance. The subordinates waiting for her orders were so startled they barely dared to breathe—everyone knew this female demon was not to be provoked.
No one knew who the unlucky soul was this time, but they all silently thanked that person—because of him, they would escape the demon’s wrath for a while. In their hearts, they offered a silent tear of sympathy.
May God protect you, amen!
However, when Maria heard that Arthur had shut himself in his room because of the news, her eyes filled with pain, resentment, and hatred. With a sweep of her hand, she knocked a classical lamp off the table.
She glared fiercely at her subordinate, ordered him to keep an eye out for any news of Yingyue and inform her immediately, then hurried out.
