Chapter 158
Yingyue hearing this, glanced at Arthur who was blinking at her like a child from his hospital bed, smiled at him, and then said into the phone, "Alright, Grandpa, Arthur is not feeling well yet, so I won't talk to you anymore, bye!" With that, Yingyue snapped the phone shut with a click. This left Xuanyuan Xuanjing on the other end so furious that his beard and eyebrows twitched in anger!
Hanging up the phone, Yingyue returned to Arthur's side and asked, "What do you want for dinner? I'll go buy it."
Arthur looked at Yingyue with sparkling eyes, pulled her straight into his arms, and said coquettishly, "I don't want you to go out. Just order takeout. I'm not picky; whatever you eat, I'll eat."
Snuggling in Arthur's embrace and looking at the dependent man, Yingyue curved her eyes and proceeded to place a food delivery order.
The two enjoyed their dinner in an intensely sweet atmosphere. Arthur lounged like a Siamese cat, resting his head on Yingyue's lap as they chatted. Gradually, as the sky grew dark, Arthur's breathing evened out, and he drifted quietly into dreamland, a satisfied smile still lingering on his lips.
Yingyue stroked Arthur's soft hair. At that moment, the phone placed to the side vibrated. Glancing at the screen, she gently lifted Arthur's head onto the pillow, picked up her phone quietly, and stepped out of the ward.
The very second Yingyue turned away, Arthur, who had been fast asleep, suddenly opened his eyes, a flash of blue light darting across the room and vanishing.
Standing outside the ward, Yingyue answered the call, "Hello?"
"Yingyue, it's me." A heavy, vicissitudinous male voice came from the other end. "Let's meet."
Hearing this, Yingyue was startled. "Alright."
Hanging up, Yingyue walked back into the ward and said to Arthur, "Arthur, I'm going out for a moment and will be back soon. Wait for me!"
"Okay, Blue," Arthur said with a beaming smile. Before Yingyue could react, he pulled her down by the neck, planted a kiss on her cherry lips, and said, "Alright, go ahead, but come back quickly."
Yingyue was momentarily stunned, then smiled. "Okay, I'll be back soon."
Arthur watched Yingyue's retreating figure with a persistent smile. The moment she left the room, the smile vanished instantly from the corners of his mouth. He lowered his long, curled eyelashes, hiding the emotions deep within his eyes.
On the rooftop of the hospital, as soon as Yingyue stepped out of the stairwell, she saw Xiahou Yu standing there desolately. His frame was much thinner than when she last saw him, making it easy to imagine that he had not been doing well lately.
"Yu—" Yingyue called out softly, then slowly walked over to his side.
"You're here." Xiahou Yu did not turn to look at her; he continued gazing into the distance. After a long silence, he began, "Yingyue, I think you know my thoughts without me having to spell them out. All along, I've hoped that you and Arthur would end up together. After going through so much along this journey, if it ends without you two together, it would be a lifetime's regret." Xiahou Yu's voice was very calm, yet it still stirred unrest in Yingyue's heart.
Meanwhile, Arthur's ward welcomed a visitor.
The visitor had lingered outside the door for a while, seeing that Arthur was simply reading a book without any unusual behavior, and then decided to stop hiding and walked in.
Standing by the bedside, the visitor looked down at Arthur, but Arthur showed not the slightest intention of acknowledging him. In the end, the visitor spoke first.
"Are you really sick? Have you really lost your memory?" Carrying heavy doubt, the visitor's tone was remarkably calm, sounding almost as if he were talking to himself.
Hearing this, Arthur raised his head, looking at the visitor with a puzzled expression. "Who are you?"
Seeing Arthur look up with an expression of complete non-recognition, the visitor could not help but frown, carefully observing every trace of expression on Arthur's face. Yet Arthur's expression held not a shred of difference, as if he genuinely did not know him. However, deep down, the visitor grew increasingly certain that Arthur had not lost his memory at all—he must be faking it deliberately.
"I won't believe that you've really lost your memory, I won't. But I won't expose you either, because I know the person Yingyue loves the most—no, to put it better, the person she has always loved is you. Although you've been through a lot and it will be difficult to return to the way things were, since there is such an opportunity to let Yingyue return to your side and make her happy again, I will let go. My only wish is for her to be happy. Since her happiness has always been you, I concede."
The visitor was none other than Yuwen Xi. After Yingyue disappeared, he had returned to China. Upon recently learning the news about Yingyue and Arthur, he ultimately could not restrain himself and rushed over. Initially, when Yingyue recovered her memories yet decided not to stay with Arthur, there had been a flicker of elation in his heart, and he thought to himself that he really was somewhat despicable! However, upon learning that Arthur had actually caused a severe car accident in his quest for Yingyue, and seeing that Yingyue, despite refusing to be with him, still held only Arthur in her heart, he fell silent. In the end, he decided to come to the hospital, to see Arthur, and to tell him that he was letting go, purely for Yingyue's happiness!
Yuwen Xi finished speaking, but Arthur still gazed at him with a blank, bewildered expression. "I really don't know you."
At this, Yuwen Xi's lips curled into a sarcastic arc, and he said coldly, "If you want to have amnesia, then have amnesia. As long as it makes Yingyue happy, what does amnesia even matter? Since you won't admit it, I won't force you to. I came today simply to tell you: never let Yingyue be heartbroken or disappointed, otherwise, I will still snatch her away from your side!" Having said this, Yuwen Xi glanced one last time at the Arthur who claimed not to know him, and quietly left the ward, just as quietly as he had arrived.
At that moment, on the hospital rooftop, after a period of silence between Xiahou Yu and Yingyue, Xiahou Yu spoke up solemnly, his tone extremely earnest: "So, Yingyue, have you figured it out now? Are you certain you want to be with Arthur?"
Yingyue mirrored Xiahou Yu, casting her gaze into the distance toward the azure sky. The corners of her lips curved upward, as though that man's eyes were watching her. No matter where she was or how far apart they were, he always seemed to find her and pull her back to his side! Instantly, her heart opened up entirely.
Yes, who wouldn't want someone to always wait for them when they are lost and desperate, and to offer broad shoulders and a warm embrace when they are afraid? Her safe harbor had seemingly always been Arthur, always that warm embrace of his. No matter what she did, his heart would always reserve a place for her, giving her a harbor where she could rest.
"Yes, I've figured it out. For the rest of my life, I'm sticking with him." With her mind made up, Yingyue looked at Xiahou Yu with a radiant smile and replied.
Hearing this, Xiahou Yu finally turned around, his dark eyes gazing at Yingyue with boundless gentleness and relief. He spoke softly, "That's good. You two are my best friends in this life. Seeing you happy makes me very glad."
"Yes, Yu, thank you for your blessing." With that, Yingyue stepped forward, burying herself in Xiahou Yu's embrace, wrapping her arms tightly around his waist, and said with deep emotion, "Yu, you must find happiness too!"
Xiahou Yu tightened his arms around her as well, and answered firmly, "Yes, I will."
After meeting with Xiahou Yu, Yingyue's mood grew increasingly cheerful, and Arthur's health gradually recovered. Today, Yingyue came to the hospital to discharge Arthur.
As Yingyue stepped into the ward, she was instantly pulled into a warm embrace. She smiled immediately as Arthur rested his chin on the top of her head, his arms tightly caging her in his hold. His rose-colored lips curved into a delighted arc as he murmured right beside her ear, "Blue, I'm taking you to see the snow."
Before Yingyue could fully process it, she had been swept away by Arthur. By the time she came to her senses, she was already standing amidst a vast expanse of white snowy mountains!
"Goodness, Arthur, where is this? Why are we here?" Looking at the world of silver frost before her, Yingyue widened her purple eyes in sheer, incredulous shock!
Seeing Yingyue looking so adorable, Arthur lowered his head and generously planted a loud kiss on her little cheek—so loud that it drew the gaze of several nearby tourists!
Yingyue's face instantly flushed crimson. She swatted playfully at Arthur with her small hand and scolded, "Hateful! So many people are watching, it's so embarrassing!"
Arthur chuckled and said with arrogant confidence, "What's there to be afraid of? I want everyone to see how sweet we are and make them die of envy!"
Her face burning bright red, Yingyue decided not to debate the issue with him further and instead asked, "Arthur, why did you bring me here?"
Arthur smiled mysteriously, "You'll find out tonight. For now, let's go skiing for a bit!"
And so, Yingyue was pulled along by Arthur, skiing through the snowy mountains until nightfall. They even built a snowman couple the exact same size as the two of them, and in the hands of the handsome male snowman, they used pure white snow to fashion a square box. The entire sprawling snowy mountain was now left with only the two of them, and as the surrounding lights turned off after the other tourists departed, the area plunged into pitch darkness!
As the lights went out, Yingyue wrapped her arms tightly around Arthur's waist, and with a slightly unusual tone, asked him, "Arthur, what is this for?"
Arthur tightened his arms, pulling Yingyue closely against his chest, and said in a mysterious tone, "This is the gift I want to give you. Look over there!" As he spoke, he raised an arm and pointed into the distance.
Yingyue's gaze followed his arm toward the horizon.
Then, gradually, her deep purple eyes grew brighter, her small mouth parted slowly, until those purple eyes were flashing with brilliant, sparkling light.
"Goodness, Arthur, that is—"
