Chapter Fifteen
The guests at the table drew the attention of everyone in the restaurant, even the staff at work. It wasn’t only their remarkable appearances that attracted notice, but also the strange atmosphere that surrounded them.
A petite girl in a violet dress sat with her head bowed. To her left was a strikingly handsome foreign man with golden hair and a wicked smile playing on his lips. To her right, a dashing young man with neat, jet-black hair wore a cream-colored casual outfit; his gaze was fixed intently on the girl who resembled a blooming violet. Beside him sat another girl, dressed in pink trousers, as delicate as an elf, who quietly observed the three around her.
Arthur regarded Yu Wenxi with a casual air, but when his gaze fell upon the deep blue pendant at Yu Wenxi’s throat, he gave an almost imperceptible shudder. His eyes grew profound, the curve of his lips vanished, and his eyes drifted through that blue haze towards some distant place.
Yingyue felt Yu Wenxi’s burning gaze and instinctively looked up. Meeting his eyes, she looked away at once, only to catch Arthur’s melancholic, deep stare. She followed his line of sight. The blue gleam was so piercing it made her eyes water with heat. That was...
Yingyue’s gaze too drifted afar...
Yu Wenxi noticed the two of them regarding the necklace at his throat with the same gaze—both melancholy, though Yingyue’s was pained, while Arthur’s carried a hint of bitter mockery. His eyes instantly dulled; a chill swept through his heart, making him shiver despite the warmth of the spring day. A glimmer of realization flickered in his eyes.
Arthur snapped out of his reverie, the casual wicked smile once again gracing his lips, as if nothing had happened. He leaned toward Yingyue, his long fingers gently turning her head to face him, forcing her attention back. “Dear, aren’t you going to eat? Do you really want me to serve you?” He drew his chair close to hers, his voice low and seductive beside her ear. “You’ll have to cooperate with me, little—mama.”
Startled, Yingyue lifted her head, her lips slightly parted. Arthur swiftly pressed a kiss onto her delicate, cherry blossom-pink lips, then cast a meaningful glance at Yu Wenxi.
Nervous, Yingyue looked at Yu Wenxi. As expected, his expression was even more anguished than before. His lips moved, but in the end, he said nothing.
Yu Yin, sensing the atmosphere shift as if from sauna to ice bath, tried to lighten the mood. “Yingyue, you look beautiful today!” At her words, Yingyue’s expression stiffened, unsure how to respond. Arthur’s smile bloomed like a flower. “Really? Haha, I designed Lan’s look today!” Yu Yin’s mouth twitched. “Er, really? Haha.” She cursed herself inwardly—why did she always say the wrong thing at the wrong time? She stuck out her tongue discreetly and decided it was best to stay silent; the more she spoke, the more mistakes she made.
Arthur rose and pulled Yingyue into his arms, his tone rakish. “Sorry, we have a movie to catch, so we won’t bother you two any longer.” His lips curled in a mocking smile as he glanced at Yu Wenxi, then walked straight to the door with Yingyue.
“Ba...baby,” Yu Yin said cautiously, glancing at Yu Wenxi’s gloomy face, unsure what to do.
Outside the restaurant, a phone rang. Strangely, Arthur’s ringtone was always the same—a classic “ring ring,” never changed.
“Hello,” a light laugh slipped from his rose-colored lips. Yingyue looked up at Arthur, seeing the wicked curve return to his mouth. For some reason, she suddenly disliked the person on the other end of the line. “Amy?” He frowned, then his eyes lit up with a smile. “Oh, baby, it’s you. Miss me?” His smile was almost enchanting. “Okay, I’ll be there soon. Wait for me! Mwah—” He blew a kiss into the phone. Turning around, he said, “Dear, I have something to take care of.” He kissed Yingyue’s forehead gently. “I’ll be back tonight, wait for me!” With a flick of his hair and a wave, he strode away, gradually vanishing from Yingyue’s sight.
