“Dig out your eyes for me!” Eva demanded, petulant and willful.

Yuwen Xi was taken aback. What was she saying?

“Hey, don’t you understand? I said, dig out your big eyes for me!” Eva stretched out both hands, placing them before Yuwen Xi.

“Don’t you… recognize me?” Yuwen Xi asked tremblingly.

For some reason, despite standing so close, face to face with Yingyue, her unfamiliar gaze made her feel so distant, as if no matter how tightly he tried to hold on, she slipped further away.

“What nonsense are you talking? Just give me your eyes!” Eva grew impatient. Why was this man so verbose?

“Why do you want my eyes?” Yuwen Xi struggled to control his emotions, staring straight at her.

“Because they’re beautiful. I like them,” Eva said without hesitation, utterly indifferent.

“Because they’re beautiful and you like them, you want to gouge out my eyes?” Yuwen Xi asked in disbelief.

Was this still the beautiful girl he knew? The gentle, quiet young woman who always bore a faint sadness? Now she seemed so strange, so headstrong, even rude. Not like her at all!

What had happened to her?

“Why are you talking so much? Will you give them or not?” Eva was now furious. Why was this man so long-winded?!

“Don’t you recognize me?” Yuwen Xi asked stubbornly.

He refused to believe she had forgotten him! Even if she no longer loved him, she shouldn’t have forgotten who he was.

“You’re so annoying. If you don’t want to give them, then forget it!” Eva, seeing Yuwen Xi’s puzzled expression, felt frustrated and turned to leave.

Yuwen Xi was not about to let her go. He reached forward, gripping her shoulders tightly, panic flooding his eyes as he growled,

“Do you really not recognize me? I am Yuwen Xi, Yuwen Xi! Have you forgotten?”

Eva frowned and struggled fiercely to break free.

“Answer me! How could you not remember me?”

“Let go of me! It hurts!” Eva struggled.

“I won’t let go. How could you forget me? How could you?!” Yuwen Xi remained lost in his own sorrow, unable to pull himself out, until—

“Let go! My head… it hurts so much… my head…” Eva cried out in pain, brow furrowed, her face growing paler by the second as her body slowly slid to the floor.

Only then did Yuwen Xi come to his senses, his uncontrolled emotions gradually calming, a look of distress overtaking his face.

“What’s wrong, Yingyue? What’s happening?” Yuwen Xi shouted, shaking her body, trying to rouse her.

“My head… my head hurts… so much…” Yingyue whispered weakly before collapsing.

“Yingyue! Yingyue! What’s wrong? Don’t scare me! Yingyue!” Yuwen Xi was terrified, sinking to his knees, cradling her helplessly as he cried out, “Yingyue, wake up! I won’t force you to remember anymore. If you forget me, then forget me. We can start anew. I won’t pressure you again. Please wake up, Yingyue!” He buried his face in her chest, sobbing softly.

Just then, Dr. Bentley, who had already begun to leave, suddenly turned back. He could not bear to leave Eva in the care of a stranger—especially a handsome man who knew her past and adored her! Halfway out, he returned, only to witness this scene.

Bentley was grateful he’d come back. Seeing Eva collapsed in the arms of the stranger, unconscious, he lost all composure. He sprinted forward, delivering a solid punch to Yuwen Xi, then scooped Eva into his arms and dashed towards her room.

He hoped he’d arrived in time. He hoped Eva would be alright.

Inside the luxurious room, the atmosphere was tense and oppressive.

A crowd gathered around Eva’s room, anxiously watching Dr. Bentley tend to her.

He checked her pulse, heart rate, eyelids, then administered an IV drip.

Finally, he set down his stethoscope and exhaled deeply, the tension easing from his face.

“Miss Eva is fine,” Dr. Bentley said, visibly relieved. His gaze shifted meaningfully to Yuwen Xi, whose eyes were dark and deep. “She only fainted from a shock. It’s not good for her health. Please avoid anything that might disturb her in the future.”

“So she’s alright now? And as long as nothing startles her, she’ll be fine?” a man dressed perpetually in medieval attire asked anxiously.

“Yes, Mr. Weyting. Please rest assured, Miss Eva is currently out of danger.”

“Oh, that’s good.” Mr. Weyting smiled broadly, then glanced at Yuwen Xi with a mischievous grin. “Bentley, you’ll be in charge of Eva’s care from now on. Her health is the priority. If something like this happens again, handle it yourself without consulting me first.” He tossed back a curl of hair from his forehead, ignoring Yuwen Xi’s sudden darkening expression, and whistled happily as he left the room.

Once the flamboyant man was gone, Yuwen Xi stepped toward Eva. Despite lingering questions, her well-being mattered most.

However—

“Sir, please leave now. Miss Eva needs rest and must not be disturbed,” Dr. Bentley said proudly, observing Yuwen Xi’s darkened face with satisfaction. He imagined himself whistling like Mr. Weyting but restrained himself, fully aware of his position. When Yuwen Xi hesitated, Bentley extended his right arm in a polite gesture.

Yuwen Xi glanced at the sleeping Yingyue, who rested deeply yet peacefully, then quietly left the room, wanting to give her a tranquil environment.

Perhaps it was time to find out why she had changed so drastically.

No sooner had he stepped out than a footman stood at the door. Seeing him, the man bowed respectfully, head lowered, and in a flat tone said, “Sir, please proceed to the study.” Without waiting for a reply, he retreated.

Yuwen Xi raised a dark brow but remained calm, heading toward the study without minding the servant’s rudeness.

Now, her condition was the most important matter.

Upon entering the study, the scent of tea greeted him. The flamboyant man sat leisurely, holding a purple clay teacup, savoring the swirling steam.

Yuwen Xi did not rush to question him. There was plenty of time ahead. He walked gracefully to the table, sat down, and poured himself a cup of tea.

Silence enveloped the room, so complete one might hear their breathing.

After a long pause, Mr. Weyting finally spoke, curious,

“Why don’t you ask me what’s really going on?”

Yuwen Xi took a sip of tea, letting the lingering fragrance fill his mouth. Setting down the cup, he crossed his arms, adopting an inscrutable air and spoke slowly,

“I don’t think if I ask eagerly, you’ll immediately spill everything, word for word.”

Mr. Weyting raised an eyebrow, setting down his cup and reclining comfortably on the sofa, tapping the leather armrest rhythmically. He smiled.

“How can you be sure I won’t tell you in detail if you don’t ask?”

“Then, ‘honorable’ Mr. Weyting, would you be willing to tell me everything that happened and how it developed?”

He responded with a chuckle, eyes gleaming with amusement, but evaded the question.

“Why don’t you ask then? Guess what it’s about.”

Yuwen Xi shot him a glance but said nothing. Instead, he leaned forward, poured himself another cup of tea, and swirled it slowly, inhaling the aroma. His gaze was mocking, as if to say, “Whether I tell you or not is up to me.”

“If you don’t ask, I won’t tell,” Weyting teased.

“If you don’t speak, I’ll find out eventually. It’s just a matter of time,” Yuwen Xi replied casually.

“Then tell me, what do you know?” Weyting suddenly grew curious, eager to learn what Yuwen Xi might know without any hints from him.

“Why should I tell you?” Yuwen Xi said coolly, ignoring Weyting’s curiosity.

Weyting’s eye twitched, his smile stiffening.

Yuwen Xi drained his tea and rose to leave.

“Hey, don’t you want to know more?” Weyting was puzzled by Yuwen Xi’s silence and sudden departure.

Yuwen Xi stopped at the door but didn’t look back, saying,

“I don’t think you’re eager to tell me. If so, I won’t force it. I’ll find the answers myself rather than waste time here.”

Without another word, he left the study, indifferent to the older man behind him who, likely weakened by shock, might suddenly faint.

Weyting watched Yuwen Xi leave for a long moment, then cleared his throat and took a deep breath.

“That brat… one day, he’s going to drive me crazy!” he muttered, though his face showed no real displeasure.

Outside the study, Yuwen Xi’s expression grew grave.

It seemed this matter was far more complicated than he had imagined.

From what he could tell, Yingyue had only lost her memory, and her physical condition was stable—provided her mind was not disturbed.

Perhaps he had misunderstood Xiahou Yu after all.
