Qiao Jiu kept her eyes closed, showing no reaction whatsoever.

Lu Fengzhou glanced at her, originally wanting to say something more, but seeing her curled up into a small ball, a few damp strands of hair clinging to her temples, looking inexplicably pitiful, his mood suddenly soured and he no longer felt like speaking. After waiting a moment longer, he quickly dressed and got out of the car.

A few seconds after the door closed, Qiao Jiu finally opened her eyes.

Trying to come between Lu Fengzhou and Song Wan was proving a costly endeavor—her entire body ached now.

This time, Lu Fengzhou hadn’t taken any medicine, yet somehow his stamina surpassed even the last time.

She rolled over and glanced under the seat; Lu Fengzhou’s phone was already gone.

She’d expected as much. Supporting herself, Qiao Jiu sat up and retrieved her own phone from between the seats.

When she unlocked it, she saw Guan Wei had called her twice. Things had gotten so chaotic earlier she hadn’t heard a thing.

After a moment’s hesitation, she decided not to call back—her throat hurt, and she didn’t feel like talking.

She also glanced at the call Lu Fengzhou had hung up earlier—it was from an unknown number, and she couldn’t be bothered to care.

She set her phone aside and turned to look out the window. Lu Fengzhou was standing beneath a streetlamp, a cigarette dangling from his lips, the phone pressed to his ear.

She didn’t need to guess who he was calling, nor how he’d explain away the sounds that had come through on that call.

Qiao Jiu snapped back to herself and picked up her clothes, which lay discarded to the side.

The fabric was already torn and unpresentable, but she had no choice but to put it back on.

Just as she finished dressing, she saw Lu Fengzhou’s driver approaching in the car’s side mirror. The driver had brought the car over earlier, only to be sent away by Lu Fengzhou. He probably hadn’t gone far; whether he’d witnessed any of the heated scenes inside was anyone’s guess.

The driver stopped a respectable distance from the car and stood there, waiting.

Lu Fengzhou finished his call and walked over, telling the driver, “You can get in now.”

Qiao Jiu leaned against the car door, completely drained. She still looked weary.

Lu Fengzhou glanced at her after getting in, but said nothing.

The driver was even more disciplined; he didn’t dare look at Qiao Jiu, only started the car and quickly drove off.

Qiao Jiu remained silent all the way, only turning to Lu Fengzhou when the car finally stopped. “How did you know I lived here?”

Lu Fengzhou’s tone was indifferent. “Is it so hard to find out where you live?”

He was right, after all—with his money and power, such things were easy to uncover.

Qiao Jiu asked nothing further. She pushed open the car door and got out.

As soon as she shut the door behind her, the car sped off.

Qiao Jiu’s legs were trembling, her throat dry and sore; there wasn’t a single comfortable spot on her body.

She dragged herself upstairs, and had just stepped inside when her phone rang.

Leaning against the door, she pulled out her phone with a lazy hand and answered, “Speak.”

Guan Wei sounded frantic on the other end. “Lu Fengzhou took you away? Why didn’t you answer my calls earlier? Did he do anything to you?”

Qiao Jiu caught her breath. “Nothing happened.”

Guan Wei clearly didn’t believe her. “What’s that man thinking? Earlier, he told A’Jin he was leaving with Song Wan, but I saw on the security footage—he only put Song Wan in the car, then went back into the bar and sat in a booth not far from us.”

The footage showed clearly that Lu Fengzhou had been watching Qiao Jiu the entire time. In the end, it was he who dragged her away and stuffed her into the car.

Guan Wei continued, “Qiao Jiu, I don’t understand what he was doing tonight. What happened between you two?”

Qiao Jiu didn’t want to elaborate. “Nothing major, just argued a bit.”

Guan Wei paused, her tone tinged with emotion. “He treats that little starlet so well—so why is he still bothering you? Why can’t he be satisfied? Does he want to keep you even after the divorce?”
