Chapter 150: Weapon Master and Berserker: Boss is Extremely Generous (Bonus Chapter for Patron Qinghe Yue)
"Olaf, keep your temper in check for now. We are here to ask for a favor." Jax felt a headache coming on as he looked at the two large axes tucked into Olaf's waist.
"Relax. I can't beat him anyway, so I won't cause any trouble." Olaf rubbed his wrists, stretching his body.
Jax's headache only worsened. He couldn't beat him, so he wouldn't cause trouble—what was that supposed to mean? If he *could* beat him, would he just charge in and start a fight?
We are here to ask for reinforcements, not to pick a fight, my brother!
Seriously, who on earth assigned this envoy? Why send Olaf? Isn't this just a joke? Aren't they just torturing me?
No way. I can't let him speak later, or he'll ruin everything.
Regardless of Jax's growing headache, Odin's invitation had to be accepted. Before long, the two of them arrived at the destination.
Upon seeing the location, Jax's heart sank. This is bad. Who picked this place? An arena! How could Olaf possibly hold back in an arena?!
Jax glanced at Olaf, and as he expected, under the influence of the surrounding atmosphere, Olaf's skin was already beginning to flush red. That surging desire for battle was crystal clear to him.
However, Olaf also knew that the big picture came first, and he forcefully suppressed his boiling blood.
Jax silently cheered Olaf on in his mind: *If you hold back this time, I'll spar with you for a whole day when we get back!*
Olaf seemed to have heard Jax's inner thoughts and gave him a look. "You said it."
"What?" Jax was stunned. He hadn't heard that Olaf possessed telepathy.
By this time, led by an Asgardian warrior, the two had already reached the viewing gallery.
Two seats had been prepared for them right next to Odin.
"Which match is next?" Olaf whispered to the warrior beside him after sitting down.
The warrior looked straight ahead and did not reply.
"The next match is between my son, Thor, and Volstagg of the Warriors Three," Odin spoke up.
Olaf wanted to ask something more, but a glare from Jax forced him to swallow his words.
From Jax's perspective, this match was rather dull.
Not to mention that Thor was wielding Mjolnir, a weapon completely out of Volstagg's league.
Judging purely from the attitude of both sides, it was a poorly performed bout; Volstagg was obviously holding back.
Whether it was due to the presence of outsiders in the viewing gallery or because of Thor's status, Volstagg simply failed to unleash his hundred percent strength.
Such restraint could not escape Jax's eyes. He was an absolute grandmaster of close-quarters combat, and there were very few in the entire mystical realm who could compare to him.
"Good! Well fought!" Olaf's cheer rang out from the side.
Olaf hadn't failed to notice that Volstagg was holding back; it was simply that he hadn't watched an arena match in too long. As long as the fight looked flashy, it earned his cheers.
With all the lightning and thunder flashing below, the visual effects were quite spectacular.
Jax awkwardly gave Olaf a nudge.
*Stop cheering! Can't you see Odin's expression looks terrible?!*
Only after receiving Jax's pointed look did Olaf notice that Odin's face looked as if he were about to eat someone.
That made sense, too. Originally, Odin had wanted to showcase Asgard's strength and give them a look at Thor, letting them witness the future of Asgard.
But now, this staged match had completely and thoroughly ruined his prestige.
Moreover, Odin could easily guess whose idea this had been.
In the arena tunnel, Loki smiled as he watched Odin's gloomy expression. He knew that anyone able to sit beside his father was no ordinary person, and Volstagg holding back would only make Odin feel humiliated.
As for how he had convinced Volstagg, the method was simple. He only needed to tell Volstagg that this match was Odin's assessment of his successor. Volstagg would naturally hold back instinctively, without needing any more detailed instructions.
Down in the arena, Thor pulled Volstagg up from the ground.
"Are you not feeling well lately? Do you want to see a healer?" Thor asked very directly. Having fought Volstagg so many times, he could naturally sense something was amiss.
"No, no, probably didn't sleep well. A little rest will do," Volstagg said, scratching his head and glancing sideways, vaguely realizing he had messed up.
Thor had a vague feeling that something was wrong, though he couldn't quite put his finger on it. The cheers from the surrounding crowd, however, felt somewhat grating.
"Enough!"
Odin shouted, and the cheering instantly stopped. Thor stood in place, somewhat at a loss.
Loki, on the other hand, rejoiced inwardly, feeling that he had moved one step closer to his goal.
"Gentlemen, I apologize for letting you witness this," Odin said, leaning back in his chair.
"It's fine. Maybe he was just nervous with the sudden appearance of an audience," Jax offered, making an excuse for Volstagg.
"Yeah, yeah, the fight was still quite entertaining," Olaf chimed in immediately.
*My brother! Will you please shut up!*
Jax genuinely wanted to shove Olaf's axe into his mouth. Didn't he notice that every time he spoke, Odin's face twitched?
*Show some respect to the man!*
*Sigh...* Jax let out a long breath.
Just when Jax thought they were going to leave empty-handed, Odin spoke again.
"Gentlemen, would you be interested in stepping onto the stage to warm up?"
Olaf jumped straight up with a loud smack. "I'd love to!"
*Shut up and sit back down!*
Jax stared at Olaf until he slumped back into his seat.
"That hardly seems appropriate, considering we—"
"As long as you can secure a single victory, I will agree to the loan."
Jax choked. Was Odin serious? Against the current Thor, he could fight with one hand tied behind his back and still win easily.
"And..." Odin looked at Jax and Olaf, "For every win, the loan increases by fifty percent. Win both matches, and the loan doubles!"
"The boss is generous!" Olaf leaped up again.
Then, realizing he had gotten a bit too excited, he hurriedly sat back down.
"Of course, I do have a condition. I must let them experience the outside world. No objections, I presume?" Odin continued.
Jax pondered for a few seconds, stood up, and took off his coat. "Since you put it that way, I must respectfully decline to refuse."
A warrior nearby immediately dragged over a weapon rack laden with all kinds of armaments, even including firearms.
"No need."
With those words, Jax walked over to a decorative streetlamp.
Since he was going to make a move, he had to do it with enough dominance to let these Asgardians witness the power of the present-day Midgard.
Jax ripped the streetlamp out of the ground and chopped off both ends with a couple of sharp *clangs*.
*Master-At-Arms' exclusive domain activated!*
*Any weapon designated as the primary weapon by the Master-At-Arms will automatically ascend to legendary status until forsaken by him.*
*Whoosh—*
Jax swung the streetlamp, finding it reasonably balanced, and then, with a swift leap, vaulted from the viewing gallery straight down to stand opposite Thor.
