Volume 10 Call from the Sea Route Chapter 11 The Mantis Stalks the Cicada Strategy
However, the semi-purgatory sea dragons were not much better off; they were covered in wounds, and one of them was already on the verge of collapsing. At this moment, Xuanyu's semi-purgatory water-type troops also rushed over. Seeing that the three black-armored dragons were about to perish at Xuanyu's hands, Libin finally made his move.
Libin's archer troops formed a phalanx, and arrows rained down like a storm upon the intertwined black-armored dragons and semi-purgatory sea dragons. This was an attack Libin had been preparing for quite some time. In just those few short seconds, over a thousand long arrows were unleashed.
No matter how high the levels of these two kinds of dragons were, or how massive their health pools were, they had just engaged in a brutal bloody battle. Struck by this sudden volley of arrows from Libin, the three black-armored dragons died on the spot, while all the semi-purgatory sea dragons sustained heavy injuries and plunged back into the ocean.
However, Libin frowned and said, "Gather everyone on the floating island and prepare for battle."
As it turned out, the moment Libin launched his attack, his floating island was also surrounded by a group of semi-purgatory aquatic creatures. Xuanyu stood atop a gigantic whale, pointing at Libin and cursing loudly, "This time, let's see how you can possibly escape."
Libin had not anticipated this outcome. Initially, he had hoped that the black-armored dragons and Xuanyu's subordinates would wear each other down to the point of mutual destruction, but he never expected that Xuanyu would refuse to take the bait.
By now, however, Libin was quite the crafty veteran. Seeing that Xuanyu's subordinates had not suffered much damage, he immediately executed his backup plan: deploying the corpse-stitching sea dragons into the water to blast open a path, and driving the floating island directly toward the direction of Black Dragon Island.
Since Xuanyu had gone to such great lengths to find Libin, how could he possibly let him escape just like that? With a wave of his hand, he led his subordinates in hot pursuit.
With one pursuing and the other fleeing, Libin quickly returned to the territorial waters of Black Dragon Island. At this time, the undead creatures in the sea had not yet dispersed, and the moment Libin's floating island plunged in, it vanished into the vast ocean of the undead.
As for Xuanyu, he was rather unfortunate. He had only focused on ambushing Libin's forces, failing to consider what else Libin might have accomplished during his recent battle with the black-armored dragons.
Having carved a path through the undead sea, Xuanyu found Libin standing atop Black Dragon Island, deep in conversation with Kadoqin who stood beside him.
Such a scene filled Xuanyu's heart with unease. He was about to order his troops forward to stop Libin when suddenly, Black Dragon Island began to shake violently. A thunderous dragon roar echoed from the island, and the surrounding clouds rapidly converged toward Black Dragon Island, slowly shaping themselves into the form of a dragon. Six nether dragons clad in heavy purple armor soared out from Black Dragon Island like six bolts of purple lightning.
It turned out that when Libin returned here and occupied Black Dragon Island, he already knew he wouldn't be able to hold onto it for long. Thus, he decisively had Kadoqin trade the entire Black Dragon Island with the nether dragon clan in exchange for six nether dragons.
The nether dragon clan was extremely pleased with such a Black Dragon Island, which could produce three black dragons every half year. Not only did they immediately deliver the six nether dragons, but they also specially elevated the dragons' tier, transforming them into Level 15 Crimson-Armored Nether Dragons.
With these new troops under his command, Libin's courage swelled considerably. He pointed at Xuanyu and said, "Since you've chased me all the way here, go die here."
However, Xuanyu was not intimidated by Libin's forces. In his view, even though Libin possessed six Level 15 Crimson-Armored Nether Dragons, it merely represented a slight boost in combat power, and Libin was still by no means his match.
While calling forth all of his troops, Xuanyu laughed loudly and said, "Do you really think these six Level 15 creatures can fight me? Let me tell you, I have a whole group of subordinates around Level 15. The troops you have right now aren't even worth my notice."
Just as Xuanyu finished speaking, another voice echoed from the rear of his formation: "What if you add me to the mix?"
Libin and Xuanyu turned toward the direction of the voice, only to see Shuiyuetianlian slowly rising from the seabed with his troops.
Faced with this situation, both Libin and Xuanyu were utterly surprised; neither of them had expected Shuiyuetianlian to suddenly appear here.
Xuanyu, in particular, saw the elite troops that Shuiyuetianlian usually kept hidden away trailing behind him. Both in terms of quantity and quality, these were forces that Xuanyu could not easily defeat.
Xuanyu cast a gloomy glance around his surroundings and quickly realized that if he wanted to escape safely, he would have to defeat at least one of either Libin or Shuiyuetianlian.
After weighing the situation of the two parties, Xuanyu pointed his hand toward Shuiyuetianlian's side and shouted, "Break through from this side!"
Upon hearing the order, Xuanyu's subordinates immediately formed a charge formation and rushed toward Shuiyuetianlian. At this very moment, Libin also made his move. He commanded his liches to swiftly take control of the undead in the surrounding waters, ordering them to drag down the advancing speed of Xuanyu's forces at any cost.
The liches did not disappoint Libin. All of their magical power was concentrated upon the sea area where Xuanyu had initially been located, and the slower-moving troops in Xuanyu's formation were each entangled by more than a dozen bizarre undead entities, dragging their already sluggish movement speeds down to a crawl.
Seeing this, Shuiyuetianlian was even more delighted than if he had initiated the attack himself. In this way, Xuanyu's forces were split cleanly into two halves, either of which Shuiyuetianlian could easily devour.
After some brief consideration, Shuiyuetianlian decided to wipe out the rear half of Xuanyu's forces first. After all, if he attacked the front, Libin's forces would undoubtedly come over to help.
Shuiyuetianlian's judgment proved correct. The moment he led his troops crashing into the rear of Xuanyu's formation, Libin's side sprang into action as well. Libin's undead shark riders burst out like bullets and, joining forces with Shuiyuetianlian's troops, plunged straight into the latter half of Xuanyu's army.
Seeing this, Xuanyu had no choice but to reluctantly recall the frontline troops that had already broken through, initiating a chaotic melee in a terrain he loathed.
Although Xuanyu fought with stubborn tenacity, he was ultimately facing two forces whose overall strength was comparable to his own. Before long, the three strongest Level 17 semi-purgatory sea dragon combat heroes under his command were wiped out under the fierce assault of Libin's Crimson-Armored Nether Dragons.
Furthermore, his remaining combat heroes had a habit of fighting their own battles. Even when organized into small squads of identical species, their differing special skills often interfered with their combat methods.
Under normal circumstances, such quirks would not affect the bigger picture, but now, driven by the desperate urge to survive, every single one of them unleashed their special skills.
For instance, one merman's special skill was summoning a giant wave; the moment it was cast, it swept away his own fighting comrades who happened to be nearby.
These eccentric skills gave Libin and his allies massive headaches as well. After slaying a semi-purgatory ice elemental that was indiscriminately hurling blocks of ice, Libin found himself swept up into the sky by a sudden whirlwind.
