Volume 10: The Call from the Sea Chapter 10: Killing with a Borrowed Knife
Facing such a situation, Li Bin's first reaction was to flee. However, how could these three armored black dragons let any outsider enter their territory? Gathering their three huge dragon heads together, they unleashed a single breath that reduced one of Li Bin's high-speed bone ships to ashes. The skeleton sailors on board leaped into the water one after another, barely escaping with their lives.
Realizing that flight was impossible, Li Bin turned fierce. He kicked the Soul of Darkness, who had tricked them into this, straight into the water, shouting loudly, "Hide well in the water, or don't blame me if these black dragons kill you!" Immediately after, Richard led his subordinate nether dragons and bone dragons in a charge. Although these dragons were far inferior in level to the three armored black dragons, they were led by a hero and possessed numerical superiority, preventing the armored black dragons from easily subduing them for the moment. At this point, Li Bin began observing his surroundings, searching for anything he could utilize. As a last resort, he still had eight Harbingers standing behind him, though it would be a pity to exhaust them in this manner.
Soon, Li Bin's gaze shifted to the corpses floating in the sea, and he decisively commanded, "Liches, cast necromancy magic and turn this place into the domain of the dead." Li Bin's liches were all individuals of exceptionally high intelligence, and upon hearing the command, they instantly grasped his intent. Countless large-scale spells were unleashed across the sea.
The other spellcasters under Li Bin also understood that ordinary black dragons could resist the majority of magic, so they did not waste their mana on the armored black dragons. Instead, they cast buffing spells on the liches or directly transferred their mana into them.
Before long, the black surface of the sea transformed into an eerie green. Countless skeletal, rotting, and even spectral hands rose from beneath the waterline.
Terrifying wails echoed across the sea.
At that moment, a lich roared fiercely. A pillar of water suddenly surged from the sea, directly striking one of the armored black dragons, while countless ghostly hands rapidly seized every inch of the creature's body, dragging it straight down into the ocean. The other two armored black dragons, seasoned veterans of countless battles, immediately abandoned their current opponents upon witnessing this and rushed to the side of their captured companion, releasing a double dragon breath that severed the water pillar.
Then, the liches launched another spell. Seawater surged wildly from all directions, rapidly pressing down upon the armored black dragons. Except for one of the armored black dragons, which reacted quickly and escaped before the strike landed, the other two were heavily slammed into the sea by the massive waves. Although they managed to emerge from the water a few seconds later, their disheveled appearances and sluggish movements indicated they had sustained internal injuries.
After conferring in the skies, the armored black dragons mutually concluded that their primary enemy was not their flying kin, but the dozen or so liches standing atop the floating island, radiating piercing chills.
The three armored black dragons charged toward them without a second thought.
Yet, before they could initiate their attack, they abruptly wheeled around and flew back into the sky, for they had noticed that behind the liches stood eight bizarre figures clad entirely in black robes, staring at them with cold gazes.
"Dammit, how are there so many Harbingers here?" one armored black dragon roared frantically in the air, no longer able to contain his fury. Another armored black dragon was also somewhat fearful; they had expended a great deal of effort advancing from level 13 black dragons to level 17, and were merely six levels away from becoming dragon heroes.
They were unwilling to surrender such an opportunity. Thus, that armored black dragon asked, "Eldest Brother, what should we do? Should we negotiate with them?"
"What is there to negotiate about? Can't you see they came looking for trouble with us?" the leader of the armored black dragons bellowed loudly. "Forget what Harbingers they are, let's just speed up and kill them all."
At that precise moment, Li Bin suddenly received a message from Kaduqin. Frowning without a moment's hesitation, Li Bin immediately ordered, "Fall back entirely. We are leaving right now."
Though they did not understand the purpose of Li Bin's command, the inherent obedience of the undead caused the battling troops to swiftly return to the floating island. Following this, the island shifted its direction and charged toward the open sea.
The three armored black dragons in the sky remained somewhat perplexed, but seeing that even the Soul of Darkness had not been rescued, they assumed their targets had encountered some trouble. The inherently greedy armored black dragons would never let go of such an opportunity, and they trailed far behind Li Bin's floating island, awaiting the moment for a final strike.
However, all their actions were completely accounted for in Li Bin's calculations. The speed of Li Bin's floating island increased steadily, and as it was about to break out of the Black Dragon Island's controlled territory, the three armored black dragons debated whether to continue the pursuit.
Just at that moment, directly along the path ahead of Li Bin's floating island, several massive whirlpools suddenly appeared. A trace of a smile surfaced on Li Bin's face. He pointed his hand toward the whirlpools and shouted loudly, "Target that location, charge!"
Yet, the moment he uttered those words, his floating island halted with uncanny abruptness. The sudden inertia caused some of the undead troops to tumble straight into the sea.
His actions, however, were not without reason. The armored black dragons, trailing closely behind the floating island, were unable to check their momentum in time and rushed directly to the front.
This played right into Li Bin's final declaration, causing them to be mistaken for Li Bin's vanguard troops. The instant the armored black dragons surged forward, three massive, bizarre dragon heads burst forth from the whirlpools, dragging the flying armored black dragons straight down into the sea with a single bite.
Witnessing this, Li Bin slapped his thigh and shouted aloud, "Well done!"
At this point, Xuan Yu, who had appeared behind the whirlpools, realized he had been tricked. But seeing the look of hatred flashing in the eyes of the struggling armored black dragons in the water, Xuan Yu gritted his teeth and roared, "Semi-Purgatory Sea Dragons, kill them!"
The three semi-Purgatory sea dragons in the water hesitated for a moment, but upon hearing the command, they began tearing fiercely into the armored black dragons.
Nevertheless, armored black dragons were, after all, advanced forms of black dragons. Having traded away offensive specialization, they possessed formidable defensive capabilities. The sea dragons' bites caused them virtually no harm; instead, the sea dragons suffered minor injuries from the sustained dragon breath unleashed by the armored black dragons.
Observing this, Xuan Yu shouted furiously, "Are you morons? They're using breath attacks, so you use breath attacks too!"
Upon hearing Xuan Yu's words, the three semi-Purgatory sea dragons followed suit. What was the elemental attribute of the sea dragons' breath? It was strong acid, perfectly suited to counter the heavy armor worn by the armored black dragons. Within moments, the heavy armor of the armored black dragons was severely corroded and breached, with the scales of one being bitten straight through.
