Volume 9: From Green Leaves to the Undead Chapter 12: The Super Reward for the Series Quest
According to the system's calculation rules for quest series, every series quest grants 5,000/5,000 experience points, 500 quest points, and the right to choose one treasure from a selection of three. Every main quest grants 10,000/10,000 experience points, 800 quest points, and the right to choose one treasure from a selection of four. Every branch quest grants 5,000/5,000 experience points, 300 quest points, and one piece of equipment for use by branch quest heroes. Naturally, each quest also includes reward adjustments based on difficulty and extra quest rewards. Additionally, quest points can be used to increase rewards for individual main quests or overall quest rewards.
Following the system’s calculations, the rewards Li Bin received were as follows:
The main quest "Forest's End" rewarded a Level 4 treasure, the *Manual of Dark Shroud*, capable of creating a shroud covering the control radius of a Level 9 city once; extra rewards included 20,000/30,000 experience points, 150,000 units of negative energy, and ownership of the Dragon-Shaped Sand Dunes.
"Stealing the Forest-Herding Whip" rewarded a Level 5 treasure, the *Cloak of Stealth*, allowing the hero to stealth three times a day for 30 minutes each (given to Shen Ling); extra rewards included 5,000/5,000 experience points and one Level 12 Messenger Bone Dragon.
"Decisive Battle: The Great Green-Leaf Alliance" rewarded a Level 4 treasure, the *Manual of Toxic Origin*, which can turn all rivers within the control radius of a Level 9 city into poisonous rivers; extra rewards included 30,000/20,000 experience points and one Level 7 Nature-type City Heart (Li Bin used 1,000 quest points to exchange this for a Level 7 Undead-type City Heart).
"Duel with Aska" rewarded a Level 4 treasure, *Aska’s Lightning Heart*, which provides a defensive electric grid covering a Level 11 city (similar treasures include Aska’s Giant Bear Heart, Aska’s Slaughter Heart, and Aska’s Leaf-Wheel Heart); extra rewards included 25,000/15,000 experience points and an *Undead Druid Training Manual*, which allows the training of the Level 9 Undead Druid unit.
"Telling the Truth" rewarded three *Hero Recruitment Orders: Internal Affairs*, allowing the recruitment of three Undead-type internal affairs heroes (with preference for those converted from Nature-type to Undead-type); extra rewards included 5,000/5,000 experience points and 50,000 units of Nature energy.
The series quest "Spirit Machine City Three-Day Energy Replenishment Task" rewarded a Level 5 treasure, an *Energy Conduit*, which increases the fountain’s energy collection speed by 15%; no extra rewards.
"Intercepting the Pursuers" rewarded a Level 5 treasure, the *Divine Wood Bow*, increasing the archery skill of the hero and their troops by 5% (given to Little Carter); extra rewards included a resurrection map for the Phantom Archer, Shadow.
"Rescue Ghalai City" rewarded a Level 5 treasure, *Boots of Speed*, increasing the movement speed of the hero and their troops (given to Toudina); no extra rewards.
"Repelling the Ninth Attack of the Great Green-Leaf Alliance" rewarded a Level 6 treasure, the *Staff of Cursing*, which increases the speed of curse-type mages by 20% (given to San Nei); extra rewards included 10 Death Knights (already claimed) and the title "Treant Terminator."
"The Truth of the Quest" rewarded a Level 6 treasure, the *Eagle Eye*, which allows the user's troops to ignore visual obstructions caused by thick fog (given to Frost Mourn); no extra rewards.
"The Sacred Unicorn’s Interception" rewarded a Level 5 treasure, the *Unicorn’s Flash Shield*, which has a certain chance to blind enemies (given to Sansheng); extra rewards included a Death Unicorn mount (given to Suifeng).
The branch quest "The Dragon Princess’s Allegiance" rewarded Kadocin with a Level 5 treasure, the *Dragon-Language Grimoire* (a textbook on dragon-language magic usable only by Kadocin).
"Dreamy’s Druid Raid" rewarded Gelu with a Level 4 treasure, the *Ghost Bowstring*, which provides a 1% chance to imbue arrows with a curse upon firing.
Furthermore, because Li Bin completed the overarching "Life vs. Death" objective, he received a grand total reward: 1,000,000 units of faction-aligned energy, two Level 6 City Hearts, one Level 8 City Heart, and four Level 13 units. Li Bin invested all his quest points here, significantly increasing the grade of these rewards. The final haul became: 1,000,000 units of faction-aligned energy, 500,000 gold coins, three Level 6 City Hearts, one Level 7 City Heart, one Level 8 City Heart, and eight Level 13 units (of his choice).
However, what excited Li Bin most was the experience point reward. These massive gains allowed Li Bin, who had lost a level due to death, to experience a surge in progress, with his combat and campaign levels skyrocketing to 8 and 11, respectively.
Li Bin’s skills also improved rapidly. Through four skill selections, he chose:
*Undead Wisdom*: Player knowledge +1, Necromancy increased by 5%, and magic points of player-controlled magic units increased by 20.
*Soul Power*: All ghost units gain mana-absorption capabilities, allowing them to drain mana from enemy magic units.
*Toxic Life*: All units gain 20% resistance to poison, and attacks have a 1% chance to carry poison damage.
*Enchanted Ballista*: Allows the ballista to be imbued with curse or attack magic instead of standard bolts, with effects lasting for three days.
Li Bin had already planned how to use these rewards. He intended to combine the City Hearts to upgrade them into a Level 9 City Heart and select the newly acquired Dragon-Shaped Sand Dunes as the site for his new city. This would allow him to produce all units below Level 11 himself, not only effectively controlling production rates but also saving significant capital.
Of course, all this had to wait until his heroes arrived. For now, Li Bin’s plan was to occupy nearby leaderless public cities. Behind him, aside from the vampires he had summoned over the past few days, followed eight strange figures entirely wrapped in black robes, their hands hidden in their sleeves, with not even a glimpse of their faces.
These eight figures were the Level 13 units Li Bin had obtained from the total quest reward: the "Death Bringers," the most formidable and bizarre unit of the Undead faction.
These Death Bringers possessed no ranged skills, and their melee capabilities were inferior to those of Level 9 Death Knights. Though they used magic, their mana capacity was only one-third that of a Lich. Yet, there was a reason they held the title of the strongest Level 13 Undead unit: their only two spells, "Finger of Death" and "Soul Deprivation," ensured that no one would ever want to stand within ten meters of them.
Even more terrifying were their two special skills: "Death Proclamation" and "Death Prayer." "Death Proclamation" could be used ten times a day, with a 50% chance to instantly kill one unit of a lower level than themselves; as they leveled up, this eventually reached a 50% chance to instantly kill an entire squad of lower-level troops or an elite-level hero. "Death Prayer" used their own life as a sacrifice to instantly kill an entire squad of higher-level troops, players, or heroes above the elite level. Those killed by these two skills could not be resurrected by any means for a full day. Consequently, Death Bringers were generally treated as the "nuclear weapons" of the Undead faction; they could not be produced in cities and could only be recruited through wilderness camps.
Li Bin had truly struck gold this time, summoning eight of them directly from his quest rewards, ensuring that despite his recent losses, he could still walk through this continent unimpeded.
