Volume 9: From Green Leaves to the Undead Chapter 8: All-Out Resistance
At this moment, Aska also understood Li Bin’s plan, but he had no way to stop it. Although his combat level had already reached twenty, making him a figure who had one foot in the legendary realm, Li Bin’s subordinates were no weaklings either. The few Dread Knights alone were more than enough to give him trouble.
Leaving aside the first one who had charged forward with a spear, the berserk Feng Sui had already carved four or five wounds into Aska’s body since the battle began.
The female Dread Knight wielding a greatsword was even more formidable. Every time she struck him, Aska felt a wave of bewilderment. Even after taking a blow, he would lose the will to counterattack.
Most terrifying of all, however, was the Dread Knight riding the black crystal bone dragon. Not only could he keep up with Aska’s movements, but his attacks were also tremendously powerful. Every time the heavy mace in his hands struck Aska, it left a deep dent in his body.
The commander of the bone dragon had transformed into a silver-gray dragon at the very beginning of the battle. Though it was not as large as Aska, its experience in dragon-form combat was in no way inferior. In only a few exchanges, it had severely wounded both of Aska’s wings.
By now, Aska understood that if he did not call for reinforcements, he would be trapped here. He flung off the pseudo-bone dragons clinging to his body, opened his great jaws, and let out a furious roar.
A dragon’s cry soon echoed from the distance. Li Bin turned toward the sound and saw twelve golden dragons flying toward them like bolts of lightning.
Li Bin immediately gave an order. “Toudina, Lidas, take a large mixed unit and go. Use whatever means necessary to drag those golden dragons down.”
Toudina and Lidas immediately nodded. “Yes, Master. We will hold them back even at the cost of our lives.”
Li Bin nodded, then relaxed slightly. “If you cannot stop them all, delay as many as you can.”
Toudina and Lidas said nothing more. They casually summoned some skeleton soldiers, corpse soldiers, and ghost soldiers, then charged toward the approaching golden dragons.
The golden dragons were exceedingly fast. In only a few moments, they had reached a point just over five hundred meters from the battlefield where Aska fought. There, they encountered Toudina and Lidas.
Seeing the two women assume an utterly reckless stance, the largest golden dragon immediately roared, “Stand aside, women, or you will regret it!”
“Even if we die, we will not let you pass,” Toudina said coldly.
The heroes under her command and her personal guards swiftly formed an attack formation.
Lidas’s forces, meanwhile, adopted a defensive formation. Yet the spiderfolk, spider soldiers, and Amazon warriors under her command all carried the finest weapons. If the golden dragons attempted to force their way through the line, they would be met with attacks from every direction.
The leading golden dragon realized that the matter would not be settled peacefully. He turned to the dragons behind him and shouted, “Have two of you keep them occupied. The rest, charge through with me!”
Before he had even finished speaking, Lidas’s forces attacked. More than a dozen spiders and more than a dozen spiderfolk web-throwers cast the webs in their hands. Relying on those slender strands, they forcibly dragged the four golden dragons at the front out of the sky.
Only then did the golden dragons understand why Lidas’s troops had maintained a defensive formation. They had intended to stake their lives on dragging down every one of the dragons.
Sure enough, after pulling the remaining golden dragons to the ground, Lidas’s forces rapidly withdrew, leaving only Toudina and her troops to face the enraged dragons.
Although the golden dragons could not take flight for the moment, their offensive power remained intact. A single breath attack was enough to burn any charging skeleton soldier to ash.
By the time the webs were torn apart, Toudina had already lost two companies of skeleton and corpse soldiers, while the golden dragons had suffered no more than minor injuries.
Seeing the situation, Toudina drew several of her curved blades and shouted to Lidas behind her, “Lidas, do everything you can to keep them gathered together!”
Lidas immediately understood Toudina’s intention. She led her troops into action once more, pulling the golden dragons back down. This time, under her control, the dragons were packed tightly together. Because they were too close to their own comrades, they no longer dared use their most powerful breath attacks.
Toudina let out a loud roar, raised her curved blades, and charged forward, attacking the golden dragons trapped on the ground without the slightest regard for her own safety.
The golden dragons were already furious. When they saw Toudina leading her troops toward them, they opened their mouths and unleashed crimson flames without hesitation. But this time, the flames did not turn the approaching enemies to ash. Instead, they first severely wounded several golden dragons at the front.
The leading golden dragon regained some clarity and shouted, “No more breath attacks! Use your claws!”
The battle against the golden dragons continued in this fashion. Whenever the dragons tore free of the webs and took flight, they were attacked by Lidas’s forces. Whenever they were dragged back to the ground, Toudina attacked them.
It was not that they had never considered eliminating Toudina and her troops first. But orders from Aska kept arriving, and they could not delay for even a minute. Each time Lidas brought them down, she immediately retreated twenty or thirty meters, moving beyond the range of the dragons’ attacks.
This happened three or four more times. By then, two golden dragons had fallen forever, while Toudina’s forces had been reduced to fewer than twenty skeleton soldiers and the sole hero under her command.
Toudina glanced at the golden dragon that was about to break free of the webs and shouted, “Lidas, the rest is up to you!”
With that, Toudina recklessly leaped onto the leading golden dragon and hacked at its body with all her strength. Before long, however, several dragons struck her down.
Seeing this, Lidas gritted her teeth, took out the spear she had once used, and ordered, “The spiderfolk and spider soldiers will continue according to the battle plan. Amazons, follow me!”
Suddenly, a hand reached out from behind and seized her arm. Lidas turned and saw Shen Ling, her expression resolute.
“Let me lead the Amazons.”
“You?”
“Do not worry. I am not as weak as Toudina.” Shen Ling smiled at Lidas unconcernedly. “Hurry and prepare. Those golden dragons are about to break free of the webs again.”
Lidas nodded and swiftly reorganized the troops. Shen Ling, meanwhile, watched the golden dragons that were about to take flight with utter composure, counting silently under her breath.
When half of the first golden dragon’s body had torn free of the webs, Shen Ling shouted, “Now! All units, fire at will!”
