Chapter 3: A Visit for Healing
“Thank you for helping me out just now,” Xu Qingcheng spoke, her cold eyes flickering with gratitude for a brief moment before returning to their usual aloofness.
“No need for thanks,” Lin Yu replied, turning his head with an indifferent expression.
“I, Xu Qingcheng, never like to owe anyone anything. Here is a platinum card from Daxia Bank, with a limit of ten million. Consider it payment for your assistance.” Xu Qingcheng took a bank card from her purse and handed it to Lin Yu.
Lin Yu thought to himself, this woman is quite beautiful, and certain assets are impressive; she doesn’t seem like the type whose beauty comes at the cost of brains. Yet her actions are so superficial. Perhaps she’s been through something, making her believe money can solve everything.
He looked directly at Xu Qingcheng and chuckled, “Miss Xu, it’s clear you’re wealthy, but there are many things in this world that can’t be solved with money. Just consider my help an act of justice; you don’t need to repay me or keep it in mind.”
Xu Qingcheng was stunned.
Just moments ago, when she tried to buy back the marriage contract, Lin Yu had demanded a twelve-digit ransom in a rather unreasonable manner. Wasn’t he just a greedy man? Now, when she offered him money freely, he acted indifferent.
Xu Qingcheng was about to say something, but Lin Yu spoke first, “Miss Xu, if there’s nothing else, you should head home. Don’t wander around alone; next time you’re surrounded, you might not be so lucky.”
A clear dismissal.
“Whatever the case, thank you for today. You don’t have to accept the card, but here is my business card. If you ever need help, I’ll assist you once.” Xu Qingcheng placed her card on Lin Yu’s table and turned away, getting into her car and leaving.
After she left, Lin Yu picked up the card she’d left and resumed calling out to attract business. Tomorrow was the day he’d promised to travel to Jinling; he still needed a few more prescriptions to fulfill his agreement with the old man.
...
In her car, Xu Qingcheng called someone and recounted what had happened, making arrangements as she spoke. After hanging up, she couldn’t help but feel uneasy about the incident. Li Xiaobao had dared to try to have her kidnapped over business matters, tearing off all pretense. She had to prepare thoroughly, for who knew what madness Li Xiaobao might attempt next.
“Lin Yu,”
Xu Qingcheng murmured his name.
“It seems you’re not as simple as you appear.”
“No matter how extraordinary you are, I, Xu Qingcheng, am not the kind of woman who marries just any man she meets.”
...
The next morning.
Su Ruoxi arrived at the place where Lin Yu had set up his stall as promised.
Two days earlier, she’d gotten a prescription from Lin Yu, and after giving the medicine to her father, who had been bedridden and near death, he miraculously regained some vitality and even showed signs of getting out of bed.
This miracle transformed Su Ruoxi’s skepticism into deep admiration for Lin Yu. She was convinced he was the benefactor who could cure her father, and as long as Lin Yu personally treated him, there might truly be hope.
After waiting about half an hour, Lin Yu approached, carrying a backpack.
Seeing him from afar, Su Ruoxi hurried to meet him, then knelt before him.
“Divine Doctor Lin, thank you!”
Lin Yu was startled by Su Ruoxi’s sudden kneeling and quickly helped her up.
“Miss Ruoxi, there’s no need for such ceremony. Saving lives is the purpose of those who practice medicine. How is your father now?”
Her hand was remarkably soft.
Su Ruoxi stood, excitement in her voice. “Thanks to your prescription, my father’s vital signs have stabilized after taking the medicine.”
Lin Yu nodded. “Good. That medicine, even if the King of Hell wants someone at midnight, it can hold him off until dawn! But it’s only one prescription; no matter how effective, it can only barely keep him alive.”
The joy on Su Ruoxi’s face faded as she listened.
She knew well that her father’s illness had been seen by all the renowned doctors in Daxia and even worldwide, and all had said he had little time left. The situation was dire.
“Divine Doctor Lin...”
Su Ruoxi began, but Lin Yu waved his hand, interrupting her. “No diagnosis can be made until I see the patient.”
“In that case, there’s no time to lose. Shall we go directly to Jinling?” Su Ruoxi thought, things couldn’t get any worse.
“Wait a moment.” Lin Yu took out a sheet of paper he had prepared and posted it in his usual stall spot.
“Miss Ruoxi, I don’t have a phone or any contact information. Could you give me a number so people can reach me?”
Though puzzled, Su Ruoxi unhesitatingly gave her phone number to Lin Yu.
Lin Yu wrote the number on the paper.
He had served the villagers here for so long, rain or shine. Now that he was leaving, he needed to let them know and leave contact information in case anyone needed help with a difficult illness.
“For your kindness in raising me, Lin Yu will repay in full measure!” Lin Yu knelt at his stall and bowed in all four directions.
After bowing, he stood up and said, “Let’s go.”
Witnessing this, Su Ruoxi’s admiration for Lin Yu deepened. His actions revealed him as a man who understood gratitude and repaying kindness, someone of high moral character.
“Divine Doctor Lin, please!” Su Ruoxi invited him into her car.
She drove, Lin Yu sat in the passenger seat, and they traveled in silence.
Su Ruoxi’s curiosity about Lin Yu only grew. Such a young man, yet so capable—her gaze kept drifting to him as she drove.
After about an hour, they finally entered Jinling.
Jinling, both the capital of the southern province and a famous ancient city of twelve dynasties, has always been a strategic location, filled with newly built skyscrapers where people from all over Daxia gather. Its prosperity rivals that of the capital.
The car soon left the urban area and entered a mountain road.
About ten minutes later, a courtyard appeared ahead.
The house was built halfway up the mountain. Mansions like this usually favor a narrow front and wide back, with deep interiors for wealth-gathering feng shui, allowing auspicious energy to accumulate.
At the gate hung a plaque:
Su Residence.
Its calligraphy was bold and elegant, surely the work of a renowned master from Daxia.
