Chapter 11: Driven Out of the House
Lin Yu was still gently soothing Su Ruoxi’s emotions. Suddenly, a beam of headlights swept toward them, causing Lin Yu to frown slightly, thinking perhaps trouble was coming once more.
The car stopped not far from them, and a man in a Zhongshan suit stepped out. He walked straight toward Lin Yu and Su Ruoxi. Lin Yu sensed something unusual; from the man’s steady stride, he could tell he was a master with deep cultivation.
Whether he was friend or foe, Lin Yu did not know. He dared not relax, his entire body tensing, ready to act at any moment.
The man in the Zhongshan suit stopped a short distance from Lin Yu and Su Ruoxi. His gaze lingered briefly on Lin Yu before turning to Su Ruoxi, who was held in Lin Yu’s arms.
“Miss, my apologies for arriving late,” the man said, his voice calm and powerful.
This was Guo Junyi, who had been in Su Tianteng’s room earlier.
“Are you alright?” Guo Junyi’s eyes darted around, scanning the surroundings and studying Su Ruoxi’s condition.
“Uncle Guo, I’m fine. What brings you here?” Su Ruoxi asked curiously.
The man in the Zhongshan suit did not answer.
Su Tianteng had always taken extraordinary precautions to protect Su Ruoxi, having arranged for someone to secretly guard her safety long ago, though Su Ruoxi herself had never been aware of it. Upon learning that Wang Wan intended harm against his young lady, Guo Junyi rushed over immediately, though he still arrived a step too late.
“Thank you, young friend, for saving my lady,” Guo Junyi turned politely toward Lin Yu.
For true martial artists, encounters are decided in an instant. It had only taken a few steps for Guo Junyi to sense the aura emanating from Lin Yu.
Lin Yu nodded slightly, saying nothing.
Lin Yu was observing Guo Junyi, knowing this man was far from ordinary. He had encountered many bodyguards practicing martial arts at the Su family’s gates, but never someone of Guo Junyi’s caliber. The unusual aura and the pressure he exerted were entirely different.
“With the Wang family’s notorious vindictiveness, word must have already reached them. We should not linger here,” Guo Junyi spoke again.
...
Half an hour later, at the Su family mansion.
Several people sat in the Su family hall, their expressions grim. Especially Su Tianteng, who had just recovered from illness, sat at the center of the hall, eyes fixed on the doorway. Only when Su Ruoxi appeared behind Lin Yu did his somber expression ease slightly.
“Dad.”
Su Ruoxi stepped into the mansion, and Su Tianteng rose to greet her.
“My good daughter, are you hurt?” Su Tianteng grasped Su Ruoxi’s arm, checking her anxiously, afraid she might be injured.
“Dad, I’m fine, thanks to Lin Yu. Otherwise...” Su Ruoxi looked toward Lin Yu as she spoke.
“Good son-in-law, you are a great benefactor to our Su family. You saved my life before, and now you’ve saved Ruoxi’s.” Su Tianteng stepped forward, clasping Lin Yu’s hands.
“This time, we truly owe you. If you hadn’t been at Ruoxi’s side, she might have fallen victim to Wang Wan’s cruelty.”
As Su Tianteng expressed his gratitude, a discordant voice suddenly broke in.
“Dad, why thank him? He hit Wang Wan, Wang Shao. The Wang family will never let this go easily!” Su Xuanhao strode angrily toward Lin Yu.
He had already learned of Wang Wan’s attempt to corner Su Ruoxi and knew Lin Yu had dealt with Wang Wan. Su Xuanhao cared nothing for Su Ruoxi’s wellbeing; in fact, he wished something would happen to her, so there would be no one to compete with him for the Su family’s vast fortune.
Lin Yu had nothing but contempt for Su Xuanhao. Although Su Ruoxi was his half-sister, after all, she was still his sister, and she had nearly suffered catastrophe. Yet he spoke such words—truly disgraceful.
“Do you even know who Wang Wan is? Offending the Wang family, you’ll regret it.”
Su Xuanhao showed no intention of stopping. He continued to berate, “If you want to court death, go ahead, but don’t drag our Su family down! If the Wang family gets furious and cuts their business ties with us, do you realize how much our Su family will lose?”
A crisp slap landed on Su Xuanhao’s face.
“You fool! Lin Yu just saved your sister, yet you show no gratitude and blame him instead. How did I end up with such a disgrace for a son? Your sister nearly met disaster, and all you care about is money?” Su Tianteng glared at him fiercely.
“Dad...” Su Xuanhao reeled from the slap, clutching his face.
“Am I wrong? That’s the Wang family—people we cannot afford to offend. If they find out we’re connected to him, they will not spare us. There’s only one solution: throw him out of the Su family, declare he has nothing to do with us, and have Ruoxi personally apologize to Wang Shao. Perhaps the Wang family will let us off.”
Su Tianteng’s expression turned grim. He had weathered many storms in business and never bowed his head, yet now he realized he had raised such a spineless son.
“Enough. Lin Yu is not only the son-in-law I’ve chosen but also a great benefactor to our Su family. I, Su Tianteng, am not one to betray loyalty.”
Su Xuanhao pointed at Lin Yu. “Dad, he’s just an outsider. There’s no need to risk the Su family, the fruits of your and Grandpa’s decades of effort, for him.”
“Hey, kid, if you know what’s good for you, get out now. Don’t drag us down with you!”
He cared nothing for Lin Yu’s fate. If the Wang family wanted revenge, let them have it, as long as the Su family’s foundation remained intact. As Su Tianteng’s only son, he was destined to inherit the Su family and the Su Corporation. If disaster struck, what would be left for him to inherit?
Hearing Su Xuanhao’s words, Su Ruoxi’s gaze dimmed, her heart chilled to the core.
“I am responsible for my actions. I struck them; I alone will bear the consequences. I will leave the Su family. If the Wang family seeks revenge, I will face it myself,” Lin Yu spoke.
“My good son-in-law, to be safe, you should remain at the Su mansion for now. The Wang family may be powerful, but as long as you are here, they won’t dare break in and seize you. Should they dare, the Su family will defend you with all our strength.”
Lin Yu shook his head. “Uncle Su, there’s no need. I acted alone. If they come seeking revenge, I will not show mercy.”
“That’s absolutely out of the question. You acted to save me. Listen to my father; their target is me. Tomorrow I’ll go personally and apologize to Wang Wan, ask him—”
“I was the one who acted. Why should you apologize? Moreover, those who raised someone like Wang Wan should be the ones apologizing. I only agreed to accompany Miss Ruoxi and help Uncle Su recover, and now that Uncle Su is well, I have no reason to stay in the Su family.”
Lin Yu waved his hand dismissively. The Wang family was nothing to him; how could he possibly fear them?
