Luo Xing was speechless; wasn’t it simply because he didn’t want to remember her number, so he gave her his own? Then he had her call him, so he could add her afterward. He really didn’t lose out on anything. All she did was say that whatever happened to him was none of her business, and he reacted like this. Luo Xing gripped her phone. “I understand. I’ll call you later.” She didn’t want to waste any more time with him, so she turned around and went back.

Gu Shiyan followed behind her.

Luo Xing turned her head. “Why are you following me?”

“This is my home too.”

Luo Xing awkwardly glanced back, then bit her lip and dialed the number copied from her memo for Gu Shiyan.

When Gu Shiyan saw Luo Xing’s number appear on his phone, it was accompanied by a note in parentheses: “Spam Caller.”

He suddenly recalled something—there was a night at the bar when a number had called him. Gu Shiyan never answered calls from strangers; he’d simply hung up and marked the number as spam.

He walked a few steps forward and placed a hand on Luo Xing’s shoulder.

Luo Xing jumped in fright, turning to look at him, confused.

“You called me before?” Gu Shiyan asked bluntly.

Luo Xing was caught off guard.

She stammered, “Yes, it was that day—Grandpa Gu asked me to call you. He gave me your number, I called, you didn’t answer, and he just said to forget it.”

After speaking, Luo Xing swallowed nervously.

She didn’t understand how Gu Shiyan had realized she’d called him before.

Gu Shiyan gave a faint, mocking smile. “You’re pretty clever, aren’t you?”

He brushed past her and entered the house.

Luo Xing lingered at the doorway, pondering Gu Shiyan’s words. Though it sounded like a compliment, his tone carried a personal grudge, bordering on sarcasm.

Luo Xing sighed. How would she survive these next two months? Gu Shiyan certainly wouldn’t let her off easily.

She could already foresee the miserable days ahead.

If only she’d gone with Shen Que to work a summer job—at least she’d have some money. Here, she was just Gu Shiyan’s laborer, with no money and no dignity.

She’d thought things wouldn’t start today, but she’d overestimated Gu Shiyan.

That night, after washing up, Luo Xing curled up in bed, ready to binge-watch her favorite show, when the phone beside her pillow vibrated.

She always kept her phone on silent at night. Glancing at the screen, she saw Gu Shiyan’s number.

Her eyelid twitched; she answered.

A voice came through, tinged with a nasal tone. “Come over.”

Before Luo Xing could ask anything, the call was disconnected.

She punched her pillow in frustration and got up to go to Gu Shiyan’s room.

“Don’t you sleep?” she demanded as she entered.

She hadn’t expected Gu Shiyan to be standing right in front of her. She recoiled, hand clutching her pounding heart. “You scared me to death.”

She looked at him—he wore a charcoal-gray silk robe, hair still damp, skin glistening with steam.

“Were you asleep when I called?” Gu Shiyan asked.

Luo Xing was silent. She truly didn’t sleep that early, but instinctively felt that once it passed a certain hour, even if she wasn’t asleep, that was her private time and shouldn’t be disturbed by anyone or anything.

Gu Shiyan stared at her. She wore a cotton nightgown down to her ankles, the fabric light and airy, the sleeves adorned with floral trim, her hair loose, eyes clear as she looked up at him.

“Go back,” he said, voice low, eyes downcast.

Luo Xing was baffled. “You called me over, and now you’re telling me to leave?”

“Not going back?” Gu Shiyan’s gaze was dark.

Luo Xing nodded. “Fine, I’ll go.”

She turned and left without a second thought.

Back in her room, she stomped angrily on the floor.

The next morning, the two of them had breakfast with the elders.

This time, Luo Xing finished first. Remembering she was supposed to see Qi Zhi today, she quickly excused herself after saying goodbye to the elders.

Gu Shiyan got up and followed her.

At first, Luo Xing didn’t notice anything odd, until Gu Shiyan continued trailing her outside.

She slowed to a halt.

Gu Shiyan walked past her. “Follow me.”

Luo Xing frowned. “I have plans today.”

Gu Shiyan laughed softly. “Going to see your idol? I’m afraid he’s skipping work today.”

Luo Xing quickly realized he was implying Qi Zhi was with Lu Yuanyi.

Before she could respond, Gu Shiyan strode ahead toward the garage.

Luo Xing adjusted her shoulder bag and hurried after him.

“What’s happened to Qi Zhi?”

She caught up to Gu Shiyan, tilting her head to look at him.

Gu Shiyan lowered his gaze, surveying her worried expression, a smile playing at his lips. “You’re so noisy.”

Luo Xing fell silent and got into his car.

He wasn’t driving the pink supercar this time, but a black sports car, far more understated.

The drive was silent; Gu Shiyan focused on the road, while Luo Xing sat in the passenger seat.

Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at him. He was dressed in his usual all-black attire, cold and unapproachable.

She thought back—Gu Shiyan never cared about his outfits, yet every time he went out, even in something as simple as all black, he drew everyone’s attention.

The car stopped at a crosswalk. In that brief moment, Luo Xing saw someone nearby raise a phone to take a picture. She instinctively turned her head away from the intrusive lens.

Her eyes met Gu Shiyan’s.

The icy indifference on his face was unfiltered, making Luo Xing feel submerged in cold water.

He looked past her with a reckless air, lashes lowered, black eyes expressionless.

As the car moved forward, Luo Xing glanced back at the boy with the phone. Now he hung his head, no longer daring to take pictures.

She thought Gu Shiyan was taking her to the same place as last time, where Lu Yuanyi and Qi Zhi might be.

But instead, he brought her to a game arcade.

Luo Xing raised her brows. “You tricked me?”

Gu Shiyan twirled the car keys lazily, glancing at Luo Xing with a casual, “Yeah.”

So arrogant.

Luo Xing laughed in exasperation.

“You…” She licked her lips, unsure what to say.

Gu Shiyan entered first. Luo Xing checked her phone, then followed.

The arcade was filled mostly with students on summer break.

As Gu Shiyan entered, he drew many stares. Luo Xing kept her distance.

The two maintained a ten-step gap between them.

This led the girls in the arcade to think they weren’t together. Some bold ones even pulled out their WeChat QR codes and approached Gu Shiyan, asking if they could add him as a friend.

Gu Shiyan turned to Luo Xing. “Come here.”

He pointed to a game machine in front of him.

A girl nearby, seeing Luo Xing following behind, bit her lip and hesitantly asked Gu Shiyan, “Is she your girlfriend?”

Luo Xing answered first. “No.”

The girl seemed to think she had another chance and gathered her courage. “Can we play together? I’m pretty good at games.”
