Volume One, Chapter 39: Adjusting the Livestream Schedule to Study
“So cool! So domineering! My wife is amazing! (+`)b”
“The fortune-teller is the streamer, the ghost-catcher is also the streamer, and the one solving the problem is still the streamer. Aren’t the viewers in this live chat meddling a little too much?”
The weasel, seeing that Aunt Dong was being hesitant, jumped in to help, “What’s wrong? Are you saying your life isn’t worth two hundred thousand?”
“Mom! Two hundred thousand it is! Your life matters most! Just agree to the master’s terms!”
Though Aunt Dong was reluctant, she ultimately gave in. Suspicion flickered in her eyes as she looked at Qin Yu...
Not long ago, Dad Dong had bought an antique at a low price and resold it for precisely two hundred thousand. Now the master was asking for exactly the same amount—was this just a coincidence?
“I’ve sent you the bank card info via private message. Once the money arrives, I’ll get started.”
Earlier, Aunt Dong had been wholly focused on her son’s safety, paying no mind to the wounds on her face; now that the danger to her son had passed, the pain of the gashes became clear. In a rush, she transferred the money to Qin Yu.
When Qin Yu saw the payment notification, she finally spoke, “Weasel, I’ve divined that ten kilometers southwest of your original training cave is a spiritual spring, a sacred place. Training there will yield twice the results with half the effort.”
The weasel spat in annoyance, looking rather shameless. “You’re just trying to send me off with this?”
A sly glint flashed through Qin Yu’s beautiful, deer-like eyes. “Of course not. In a hundred years, a person of great fortune will be born at that spring. All you need to do is seize the opportunity when it comes.”
Qin Yu stopped at just the right moment. The weasel scratched its ears, its beady eyes spinning with calculation as it weighed the credibility and feasibility of her words.
Qin Yu was in no hurry, sipping fruit tea as she waited for the weasel to make up its mind.
The ones suffering the most were Aunt Dong and Dong himself. They desperately wanted to send the weasel away but didn’t dare say a word, their palms and backs damp with sweat.
“Fine, I’ll trust you this once, human!”
The weasel bowed its upper body, its cheeks moving quickly, and soon it pulled a dark-colored pill from its mouth with its forepaws. “Here’s the antidote. Dissolve it in water and apply it to her wounds—the poison will be gone.”
With that, it turned into a wisp of green smoke. Before leaving, it glanced at Qin Yu. “Human, your ghost-catching methods look familiar. Do you know Zhang Sanwu?”
Qin Yu shook her head. “I do not.”
The weasel said no more and vanished in a flash.
Dong immediately dissolved the pill and applied it to his mother’s face. Strangely enough, though the wounds had been deep enough to expose bone, after application, they healed almost instantly, leaving no trace at all.
“Whoa! This pill works better than cosmetic surgery!”
“I think I need this! Master, can you put it up for sale? I want to buy one.”
“I want it too, honey, I really need it!”
“List it on the shop, please!!!”
“Wow, making money from women is too easy.”
“I’m a guy and I’m tempted too, is that weird?”
“Streamer, can you get that weasel to leave a contact? We want to discuss a collaboration...”
With the weasel matter resolved, Aunt Dong and Dong thanked Qin Yu and quickly left the mic. It was clear Aunt Dong still harbored some resentment toward Qin Yu.
But Qin Yu cared only for the money, not the people.
The stream drew to a close, but unlike before, Qin Yu didn’t end it abruptly. She straightened her back and announced, “Dear friends, from today, the streaming schedule will change: I will go live at one o’clock every Saturday afternoon.”
“Ah! Why not stream every day? If you stop, I won’t even be able to eat properly anymore.”
“Honey, don’t! I can’t bear to lose you.”
“It was already hard to get one or two readings a day, and now you’re taking weekdays off? I’ll never get a turn!”
“Strongly suggest the master streams twenty-four hours a day.”
“Not even the workhorses in the fields work this hard, right?”
“As compensation, starting Saturday I’ll be streaming all night. I’ll increase the number of readings from three to five. If you run into trouble during the week, leave me a private message and I’ll respond as I see fit. Also, I’ve listed some protective charms in the shop homepage—they ward off evil and bring peace, for anyone in need.”
“Of course, when I go out to catch ghosts, I’ll stream if I can. I hope you’ll all continue to support me.”
Despite the many protests in the chat, Qin Yu offered no further explanation. She simply smiled and said, “See you all Saturday,” then ended the stream.
Calculating the earnings from her stream and the bank transfer, Qin Yu saw she had made over half a million.
If she could keep making money from streaming, she’d hardly want to stop—but...
She glanced resignedly at the mountain of books piled up before her.
Since she had promised Mr. Su to study hard, she had to keep her word!
And besides, she wanted to visit the school herself!
Just as she was about to continue studying, she sensed the approach of a ghostly presence.
Qin Yu turned her head and saw Hui Yuanyuan, looking rather dazed.
When Hui Yuanyuan saw her, she nervously averted her eyes. “Benefactor.”
Qin Yu frowned and asked, “How did your investigation go?”
Hui Yuanyuan replied, “It took me a long time to find Lu Jia’s residence. But I couldn’t find the statue you mentioned, benefactor.”
Qin Yu stared at her, making Hui Yuanyuan uneasy. She quickly added, “Maybe Lu Jia was afraid of being found out, so she moved the statue beforehand!”
Qin Yu looked away and nodded. “That’s possible.”
“You should go rest now.”
Within Qin Yu’s body was a space where Mu Ling usually stayed. Now that Hui Yuanyuan was helping her, she naturally provided for her as well.
But Hui Yuanyuan hesitated, as if wanting to say something.
“Is there something you want to ask?”
She nodded. “I want to know if I was murdered.”
“Yes.” There was no reason to hide it. Qin Yu spoke plainly: “But with your abilities, vengeance is impossible. I advise you to accept fate and reincarnate.”
Hui Yuanyuan was not the vengeful type—her ghostly aura was so weak she could barely squash an ant.
“Benefactor, can you help me become stronger? I want revenge.”
“I don’t interfere in grudges from a ghost’s past life.”
Hui Yuanyuan gave a small “oh” and drooped her head.
“Hui Yuanyuan,” Qin Yu reminded her seriously, “You’ll be able to pass through the Ghost Gate and reincarnate next month.”
Hui Yuanyuan murmured a soft “mm” and vanished.
Qin Yu continued reading, but before long, Aunt Zhang the housekeeper came to call her down to eat.
At the dinner table, Su Jin was all smiles. The land in the western suburbs had finally been secured, and a weight had been lifted from his heart.
Qi Huairou, too, was radiant, her blue-and-white cheongsam accentuating her gentle beauty, the red agate at her throat shining even more brilliantly.
Su Nianxin sat quietly, but her gaze kept darting toward Qin Yu, a well-concealed hint of schadenfreude in her eyes.
Qin Yu noticed it all and frowned slightly.
Just as she sat down, Su Jin’s hearty voice rang out, “Yu Yu, Uncle Lin says your books have arrived? Go ahead and read them. If there’s anything you don’t understand, ask your sister.”
