Volume One, Chapter 180: The Supernatural Society (Part 4)
As the others departed, the scenery and circumstances around Qin Yu began to spin wildly as if accelerated.
In an instant, it was the very day the paranormal society met with disaster.
Qin Yu raised a hand to block the glaring sunlight.
Beside her came Ke Li’s silver-bell-like laughter.
"Big Brother Zhang Wei, if we do this, will Sister Xiaoxue really not be angry?"
Her words were laced with boundless coyness and shyness.
[Holy crap? Is something unsuitable for children about to happen?]
[Are we going to play out a catching-them-in-bed scenario?]
[Isn't this Ke Li way too much of a bitch?]
[Why is everyone only cursing Ke Li? Aren't scumbag men worthy of being cursed too?]
[Exactly, curse them both! It takes two to clap! Trash man and bitch woman!]
Qin Yu glanced at the live stream comments, pressed her lips together, and said nothing.
Frightened by the overwhelming pressure emanating from that gaze, the viewers immediately shut their mouths.
Zhang Wei’s movements beneath him paused for a fraction of a second; then, he reached out to muffle Ke Li’s mouth, his voice deep and suppressed, "Don't ruin the mood."
Hearing this, Ke Li wore an expression of triumphant arrogance.
Her tender, watery gaze stared boastfully up at the canopy of leaves overhead.
On the other side.
"Crack."
Chen Xiaoxue angrily hurled her phone away.
Instantly, the groans of the woman coming from the phone were cut short.
Two trails of crystal tears burst forth from Chen Xiaoxue’s eyes.
Zhang Wei!
How could you?
How dare you?
How could you do this!
In an instant, the sharp pain erupting from her heart overwhelmed the grief within her soul.
Chen Xiaoxue’s pretty face turned flushed crimson from a lack of oxygen. She gasped for air in huge gulps, but her lips were turning cyan bit by bit.
She collapsed, her entire body convulsing.
As her body hit the ground, she could barely feel any pain at all.
Was she... dying?
Tears spilled from the corners of her eyes, carrying lingering resentment and bitter agony.
The scene froze at this moment.
Qin Yu furrowed her brow, deeply puzzled: If Chen Xiaoxue died today, then who was the one who went on the adventure with the rest of the paranormal society members?
[Did Chen Xiaoxue just bite the dust?]
[What? I thought I was going to see a fierce female lead taking revenge? How is Chen Xiaoxue already dead?]
[You think you're watching an idol drama? Revenge?! This is real life!!!]
[Wait, but if Chen Xiaoxue died, who was the girl who survived according to the rumors back then?]
[I just want to know why Chen Xiaoxue died, am I the only one?]
[Help me, my brain can't process this anymore! What on earth is going on here?]
[......]
The scenery in front of Qin Yu shifted once more, quickly jumping to midnight—just a few hours before the tragic deaths occurred.
Three men and one woman stood before the experimental building.
Autumn had already arrived, and in the dead of night, the air carried a lingering, thread-like chill.
Qin Yu drew in a breath of the cool air and followed them.
Guo Pei glared at Zhang Wei with a face full of resentment, though Zhang Wei completely ignored his hostile gaze. On the other hand, Liu Yingyong kept his face dark and remained entirely silent, making him somewhat unfathomable.
Zhang Wei checked his watch repeatedly, a hint of impatience showing on his face.
Ke Li held back a smile in her eyes, yet still put on an understanding expression. She said softly and gently, "Big Brother Zhang Wei, don't rush. Sister Xiaoxue must have been delayed by something; let's wait a little longer for her."
A flash of awkwardness crossed Zhang Wei's face—the embarrassment of being exposed—but it vanished as quickly as it appeared. He immediately shifted to a dismissive expression and scoffed, "Hmph! Whether she comes or not is her business. If she doesn't come, we'll go in ourselves!"
Seeing that her scheme had succeeded, Ke Li added fuel to the fire, "This... wouldn't be very good, right? Xiaoxue..."
"What kind of act are you putting on, you spineless green tea bitch? If you want to wait, wait! If you don't want to, get lost! Stop putting on this hypocritical, sickening act!"
Before Ke Li could finish her sentence, Guo Pei burst out in a rage and roared.
Zhang Wei, who hadn't looked at Guo Pei the entire time, finally shifted his gaze toward him. Yet, that gaze held a hostility Guo Pei couldn't possibly comprehend.
For a moment, Guo Pei was terrified, stumbling back a step and nearly falling onto his backside.
Ke Li rolled her eyes in disgust, then gazed admiringly at Zhang Wei.
As expected, her Big Brother Zhang Wei was the most handsome man in the world!
At the thought of Chen Xiaoxue—who was probably grieving and suffering somewhere unknown at this very moment—Ke Li couldn't stop the wild surge of joy in her heart.
That stupid woman probably wouldn't figure out until the day she died where she had lost!
Hiding the dark delight in her eyes, she reached out a finger to gently hook the lapel of Zhang Wei's shirt and said with a wronged expression, "Big Brother Zhang Wei, don't be angry with others because of me..."
That pitiful, damsel-in-distress appearance caused a slight stir in Zhang Wei's chest.
He closed his eyes, glared at Guo Pei, let out a cold snort, and said directly to Ke Li, "Let's go inside."
Ke Li lowered her eyelashes and nodded obediently, overflowing with tenderness.
As the two of them left, the entrance of the experimental building was left with only Guo Pei—who was too terrified by Zhang Wei's fierce glare to move—and Liu Yingyong, whose expression remained murky and obscure.
A gust of cold wind swept past, pulling Guo Pei back to his senses.
Looking at the silent Liu Yingyong, Guo Pei suddenly felt anger flare up. He placed his hands on his hips and stepped forward furiously, "Liu Yingyong! Didn't you say Ke Li was your entire life? Now that she's run off with someone else, you can actually swallow this insult? Are you even a man?"
Liu Yingyong raised his gaze indifferently, though a murderous intent that could not be concealed flashed wildly in his eyes—a split second that startled Guo Pei deeply.
"W-What? You're useless yourself, and you won't even let me speak the truth?"
Though framed as a challenge, Guo Pei's tone was no longer nearly as forceful.
The corners of Liu Yingyong's mouth twitched frantically, a bizarre smile that made Guo Pei's scalp crawl with numbness.
"Shut your mouth. I'll take care of things tonight."
With that, Liu Yingyong walked into the building with a trace of grim determination.
Another cold wind swept through, plunging down Guo Pei's trouser legs and chilling him to the core. His heart skipped a beat, and without thinking further, he bolted into the experimental building as well.
Not far away, Qin Yu took in the expressions of all four individuals.
The looks on Zhang Wei and Liu Yingyong's faces just moments ago were distinctly abnormal.
Yet, she did not hurry into the building...
Her round, deer-like eyes narrowed slightly as she looked back down the path she had come.
However, beneath the desolate streetlamp, the path was completely empty.
[Why is the anchor just standing there? Go in quickly! I want to see what's happening inside the building!]
[Seriously, what kind of suspense is she building? Go in!]
[I feel like she's waiting for someone.]
[Same thought here.]
[Wait for who the hell knows what? It's the middle of the night, what university has anyone wandering around at this hour?]
[Wait, it looks like someone is actually coming!]
Beneath the streetlamp, a long, dark shadow appeared on the ground first. As it moved forward, the shadow swayed and flickered.
[Holy shit! It really is a ghost!]
Qin Yu narrowed her eyes at the approaching figure, a flash of puzzlement crossing her gaze, because the person arriving was none other than the "dead" Chen Xiaoxue.
Qin Yu steadied her focus.
No, although her aura was nearly identical to Chen Xiaoxue's, closer examination revealed subtle differences.
Qin Yu stared fixedly at the exquisite face of the "Chen Xiaoxue" before her, and suddenly, she smiled with a trace of mystery.
So, that's how it is...
