Volume One, Chapter 146: Qin Yu Was Stunned
Qin Yu gave him a look that said, "What do you think?"
In truth, Lu Hualing already believed it; he just wanted to struggle against the reality. He looked rather dejected. "Perhaps Grandpa has his reasons. He has always been very fond of Uncle. I..." His voice trailed off, growing quieter, because even he no longer believed his own words.
Qin Yu watched him calmly, offering no criticism. Seeing his dejected expression, she finally spoke slowly. "Have you ever considered a possibility?"
Lu Hualing looked up sharply at her.
"Perhaps that isn't your grandfather at all."
At this thought, Lu Hualing’s eyes widened. His entire body began to tremble slightly, his lips quivering. "Is it... stealing luck to extend a life?" Remembering how he had nearly had his own luck stolen if not for Qin Yu’s intervention, he felt a surge of lingering fear. "Who could it be? To do this to the Lu family..."
Qin Yu glanced at him, then at the brilliant star of fortune shining above his head, and sighed softly. Sometimes, having too much good fortune makes one a target. She patted his shoulder. "My condolences. The fake grandfather has already been apprehended."
For once, Lu Hualing’s mind was sharp. With a dark expression, he said, "I’m going to go find out the truth right now." With that, he stormed off.
Qin Yu looked at the encroaching dark mist surrounding the area, her delicate brows furrowed. Hospitals were already prone to gloomy energy, and with Lu Jinyuan—a walking vessel of baleful energy—now here, it had attracted every malevolent entity within hundreds of miles.
Not far away, two evil spirits were locked in a vicious struggle. Qin Yu flicked her finger, and the one bullying the other was sent flying, plastered against the wall and unable to peel itself off. Seeing this, the other spirit scrambled away in terror. Her display of power served as a warning; the surrounding spirits retreated into the corners, watching fearfully.
Qin Yu pushed open the door to Lu Jinyuan’s VIP suite once more. The anesthesia had not yet worn off. She approached with light steps. Deep down, she felt a sliver of guilt toward him. She had remained hands-off because she knew his fate was not yet sealed, but seeing him in such a miserable state, she couldn't help but feel a pang of pity. After all, he had helped her many times; it was somewhat immoral to have stood by.
Qin Yu bit her fingertip, drawing a drop of fresh blood. She traced a red line along the corner of her eye, which curled upward with a wild, fiery grace.
A faint voice echoed in her mind. "Xiao Yu, you’ve been using your Heavenly Eye too frequently lately. If you continue like this, you will destroy..."
Qin Yu pressed her lips together. She knew what Mu Ling meant, but the debt she owed Lu Jinyuan... Human favors were the hardest things in this world to repay.
"I will be careful," she nodded firmly. "Besides, with you here, you won't let anything happen to me."
Mu Ling was speechless. *Are you trying to get me killed?*
Lu Jinyuan was a child of fortune. As Qin Yu channeled spiritual energy into his body, it naturally gravitated toward his injuries, seeping into them. Fearing his body couldn't handle the clash between the baleful energy and the spiritual energy, she was cautious. But just as she was about to pull back, she realized something...
She couldn't stop.
—
"Siying, what’s wrong? You’ve seemed strange ever since you returned from Jingfang Mountain," her companion asked, eyeing her suspiciously as she suddenly became left-handed.
Wang Siying’s gaze was vacant. It took a long while for her to process the question. She spoke slowly, her voice sounding as if it were being torn apart. "I... am... not... feeling... well... I... need... to... go... to... the... washroom."
Every word was drawn out, complete with an eerie lingering tone that made her companion’s skin crawl. "Right, go, go! Hurry back!"
"O-kay..."
Wang Siying rose stiffly, her movements so uncoordinated that she walked with the same hand and foot. Her companion, unsettled, didn't wait and ran off.
Minutes later, in the bathroom, Wang Siying’s vacant eyes began to develop two pupils, one dark and one light. Slowly, the light pupil swallowed the dark one entirely. A sinister smile crept across her face. "That brat, she really hit hard," she mused. But so what? Hadn't she still managed to come back to life? And this body was even more vibrant! She looked at her delicate, white fingers and blew on them gently. "Look at this—so fair and tender. It’s truly wonderful to be young!"
—
Lu Jinyuan was woken by a rustling sound. Feeling something tickling his face, he opened his eyes, alert, only to see Qin Yu staring at him with wide, beautiful eyes. As their gazes met, his heart skipped a beat.
"Qin..." Before he could finish, a slap landed on his face.
*What is going on?*
Qin Yu blinked and raised her hand to strike again. Fortunately, Lu Jinyuan was quick; he caught her hand. "Miss Qin, what is the meaning of this?" he demanded, his voice raised.
Qin Yu’s innocent eyes suddenly brimmed with tears. She looked at him, sobbing, "Wahhh, so scary! I’m scared!"
Lu Jinyuan was stunned. The words that followed shocked him to his core.
"Who are you? Why are you in Qin Yu’s body?" he asked, horrified, flinging her hand away.
Startled by the shove, Qin Yu simply rolled on the floor, wailing, "Bad uncle is bullying me! Bad uncle is bullying me!"
The wailing was deafening. Lu Jinyuan felt as if his brains were being shaken out. *What is happening? Has Qin Yu been possessed?*
He sat up to reach for his phone, then realized something: he had vivid memories of having broken ribs, yet he felt no pain at all. He hammered his chest, testing it—not a hint of pain. He looked at Qin Yu on the floor, deep in thought.
Lu Hualing hadn't even reached the police station before a call from Lu Jinyuan summoned him back. "Uncle, you woke up so fa-fa-fast?" he stuttered, his jaw dropping as he walked in. The dignified Master Qin was currently crawling on Lu Jinyuan’s shoulder like a little monkey.
"You! You! What is going on?"
Lu Jinyuan was speechless; he wanted to know the same thing. "Is this Qin Yu?"
Lu Hualing nodded and shook his head simultaneously. "The face looks like her, but..."
"What happened?"
Lu Jinyuan pulled the woman who was tugging at his hair off his shoulder. Qin Yu, distracted by something else, scampered toward Lu Hualing. Seeing her coming, Lu Hualing’s scalp tingled. "Master, let’s talk! Let’s keep our distance! Distance creates beauty!"
He bolted, but Qin Yu gave chase. Lu Jinyuan watched with a dark face as the two raced around, the sound of cabinets and glass shattering echoing through the room. They were like two wild huskies tearing the place apart.
Lu Hualing, not exactly an athlete, was caught in no time. Qin Yu climbed onto him and began stripping off his clothes. As he protected his vital areas, he cried out for help, "Uncle, save me!"
Qin Yu stripped him of every valuable item, piling them all onto herself. Then, she fixed her gaze on one of Lu Hualing’s gold teeth. Lu Hualing covered his mouth, shaking his head frantically, his eyes begging Lu Jinyuan for mercy, but Lu Jinyuan remained unmoved.
"Uncle, I have a way to find out what happened!"
The weight on him suddenly vanished. Qin Yu, at 168cm, was being held up by Lu Jinyuan with one hand. He handed her a tablet playing cartoons. The vibrant colors immediately captivated her, and she sat down, perfectly obedient.
Lu Hualing, having saved his tooth, wiped away cold sweat.
"You have ten minutes to find out what's going on."
Before Lu Hualing could argue, Lu Jinyuan commanded, "You have nine minutes and fifty seconds."
Lu Hualing didn't dare delay. He ran until he was far from the hospital, gasping for breath. He adjusted his breathing and called out, "Mu Ling! Mu Ling, where are you? Come out, I have something to ask you!"
The only response was the empty air.
—
Lu Jinyuan watched Qin Yu’s quiet profile, his heart softening into a puddle.
