Volume One, Chapter 128: A Leopard Cannot Change Its Spots

At this moment, Luo Ying was dressed in a suit, and compared to the forgiving Taoist robes that flatter a fuller figure, his beer belly and short, stocky build were fully exposed. Although he held no notable title at Qingfeng Temple, he was fortunate to have a good master. By riding on his master’s influence, he had quite a few followers, all of whom treated him with utmost respect.
Luo Ying’s face flushed red with anger. “You really look down on me that much???” Qin Yu paused, tilting her head sideways as a breeze brushed a strand of her hair away, highlighting the flawless line of her jaw. “No, I look down on Qingfeng Temple just as much.”
“You! You! You!” Luo Ying was so upset he could barely form a complete sentence, repeatedly pointing at Qin Yu’s profile and stammering “you” over and over.
Qin Yu raised an eyebrow, her tone dripping with disdain. “What? You think you can beat me?”
At those words, Luo Ying immediately shrank back. He swore that deep down, he really wanted to defend Qingfeng Temple’s honor, but compared to Qin Yu, his trifling skills were like an egg against a rock.
Judging by his expression, Qin Yu could tell he was timid and cowardly. His reaction was entirely predictable.
She turned to leave but suddenly heard a “thud” — the sound of someone dropping to their knees. Qin Yu glanced sideways and saw the little stout man stubbornly kowtowing.
“Master Dian Qiu, please have mercy and come back with me! Look at you, so capable—surely even if you went to Qingfeng Temple, you’d find a way to get out unscathed, right?”
His voice grew softer and tinged with grievance. “Unlike me, if I don’t bring you back, I’ll definitely get thrashed…”
“Master, you’re so beautiful and kind-hearted, surely you wouldn’t stand by and let me be persecuted by these villains?”
Qin Yu’s temples throbbed. She couldn’t believe her eyes—this greasy middle-aged man was speaking to her in such a slimy tone.
Her fists clenched involuntarily, a fierce urge to punch that face flat rising within her.
“Wait!”
Qin Yu called out to stop him.
Luo Ying practically bounced up and hurried over. “Master, I knew you were different from those bad guys! You can’t bear to see suffering.”
This guy at least knew where he stood.

However...
When exactly did she agree to any of this?
Looking at his ingratiating expression, Qin Yu concluded, “There’s a reason you’ve gotten to where you are.”
Luo Ying sheepishly rubbed his beer belly. “Master, don’t flatter me, I’ll get shy.”
Qin Yu sucked in a breath at the bashfulness on his face.
“Master, when do you want to come with me? I can call a cab right now!”
“No, I have a better way to take you back with me.”
Ten minutes later, a figure leisurely departed.
Not long after, the short, stout man hobbled out behind, dragging an injured leg with one hand and holding a phone in the other, his voice full of grievance. “Master, you have to stand up for me! I almost didn’t make it back to see you! No, no, no, it wasn’t my fault—I just couldn’t beat her! Boo hoo hoo, Master, you almost lost your most favored disciple…”
—
Qin Yu returned to the livestream camera. The drone hovering above hesitated momentarily, as if pondering where she had suddenly appeared from.
Xing Qiao was playing with sand nearby. Seeing Qin Yu return, she dropped the little branch in her hand, stood up, hesitating to speak.
“Worried about those ‘bottle people’?”
Qin Yu saw through her.
Xing Qiao nodded. “The bottle people weren’t made by her. Those people believed that turning their children into bottle people would keep themselves safe.”
“If she hadn’t stopped them, those bottle people would have been out harming others long ago.”
Even though history was beautified by them, they could not erase the greed and selfishness ingrained in their bones.
For their own sake, they would even sacrifice their descendants.
Qin Yu focused and thought for a moment. “You want me to help them find release?”

Xing Qiao’s pupils flickered. “Are they... beyond saving?”
Qin Yu lightly tapped her jaw. “They’ve been turned into bottle people for too long, and resentment has accumulated within them. You must have sensed it too—their bodies are beginning to mutate. Soon, they will lose their self-awareness.”
Xing Qiao bit her lip and steeled herself. “Could you be gentler when you do it?”
“I’ll try.”
Xing Qiao nodded and stepped back.
She didn’t want to witness such soul-shattering scenes again.
But once those bottle people were completely destroyed, the entire town of Pingshui would be utterly wiped out.
“I used to have some sympathy for these people, but when they’re willing to turn their own children into bottle people, such people are nothing less than a cancer to society!”
“Some people are born with selfishness, greed, and bloodlust running through their veins—it can’t be changed.”
“If only that ‘Little Days’ thing could end up like this! Poor innocent souls of our vast nation, thirty thousand in total!”
“Calling it a ‘thing’ is already an overestimation! They even polluted the oceans we rely on for survival! I can’t even imagine what life will be like for my children in the future!”
“Master, can you save us? Please deal with that ‘Little Days’ thing that’s harming our people and polluting our seas! *crying*”
“Support!”
“I’m a fortune teller, not an assassin.” A black crow flew overhead. “Heaven’s justice is cyclical; no one escapes divine retribution. This international affair must be handled by our country—trust the nation! It will protect us!”
“Besides...” Qin Yu narrowed her eyes, “some things still have their retribution coming later on...”
