Gu Xian immediately asked, “Where is my senior sister?”

Xia Qinghe furrowed her brow. “I only have one spot left to enter the secret realm.”

The man in the green robe did not hesitate. “Give it to my senior sister.”

A ruthless gleam flashed in his eyes. “If anyone dares bring me bad luck, let them come.”

Xia Qinghe, expressionless, left behind a remark, “Suit yourself.”

With that, the silver-ranked demon slayer, radiating heroic spirit, turned and left the room.

Gu Xian followed him out.

Halfway through, Xia Qinghe suddenly spun around. Gu Xian, caught off guard, collided with her.

Both quickly stepped back several paces, avoiding each other’s gaze.

Xia Qinghe was annoyed. “How can you walk without watching where you’re going?”

Gu Xian said nothing. The black-robed woman threw a white porcelain bottle at him, saying, “This is your reward for slaying demons.”

Without another word, Xia Qinghe left without looking back.

Gu Xian opened the bottle, and a rich medicinal fragrance wafted out. It was filled with spirit-enhancing pills, and judging by the aroma, these pills were far superior in quality to those previously given by Chen Kai.

———

Nanyang City, Old Well Alley.

This place was considered unlucky because Liu Da, who lived deep in the alley, had died under mysterious circumstances just yesterday.

At dusk, a burly man arrived at the entrance of the alley.

Wearing a simple hemp garment, his steps were steady as he ventured deeper inside.

Soon, he overheard voices and pricked up his ears, catching every word without missing a beat.

First came an arrogant male voice, “Liu Zhang, I’m telling you, you will marry today, whether you want to or not. I will only take you as my wife.”

Then a woman’s sobbing, “Master Zhou, my husband’s body is not yet cold, how can you be so heartless?”

……

Even without listening further, the man already knew what would follow.

He shook his head. “How has the world come to this?”

Before he could finish speaking, his figure vanished from sight in an instant.

Inside the Liu household, a middle-aged man in a brocade robe sat proudly in a chair, his face flushed with satisfaction. Behind him stood four or five servants.

Before him was a frail woman clutching a dark-skinned little girl.

The woman’s eyes were red, filled with pleading as she looked at the middle-aged man.

Outside the courtyard, many neighbors gathered, pointing fingers and whispering. Some pitied the widow and orphan, others condemned Master Zhou’s tyranny, while several swore that Liu Zhang was always reckless and was merely pretending now…

There was much gossip, but no one stepped forward to intervene.

Master Zhou stood, grabbing Liu Zhang by the hair with an impatient expression.

“You foul woman, it’s your luck that I fancy you, yet you dare to be ungrateful. Go to hell.”

He dragged Liu Zhang and smashed her head against the wall.

In moments, her face was a bloody mess. The little girl screamed in anguish, calling out loudly.

“Mother! Mother!”

She tried to rush to her mother’s side but was blocked by the servants.

Suddenly, a deep voice rang out in the courtyard. “Sir, do you not fear divine retribution for your actions?”

Master Zhou spun around sharply and saw a burly man standing behind him, appraising him from head to toe, noting the man’s shabby attire.

The brocade-clad master waved dismissively, as though hearing the grandest joke.

“Divine retribution? Are you crazy? What nerve to talk of heaven — does the Lord even dare to punish me?”

The man smiled meaningfully, opening his palm to reveal faint streaks of lightning dancing within, crackling softly like a formidable thunder pool.

Witnessing this, the neighbors outside turned pale.

“A celestial being! A true immortal!”

“Zhou Jun has been utterly wicked; today he finally receives his just punishment.”

“Heaven has opened its eyes at last!”

……

Master Zhou’s confidence waned.

The man flicked his finger, and a golden light shot into Zhou Jun’s body, rendering him immobile.

Above Zhou’s head appeared a mirror-like display of his misdeeds over the years.

Seizing widows like today barely counted as a major sin. In his youth, he had ruthlessly murdered his father and brothers over inheritance, then seized his sister-in-law…

As the images flickered, the man’s expression grew colder.

He declared loudly, “Today, I, Zhou You, acting on behalf of Heaven, condemn Zhou Jun of Nancheng for his heinous crimes, beyond reckoning. By the thunder pool, I shall execute divine justice and restore the natural order.”

Before he finished, Zhou Jun quickly pleaded,

“Please, immortal, wait! I truly repent. Spare me this once!”

“I swear by my name, if I commit evil again, may I meet a terrible end.”

“Let me donate all my wealth to charity—repair roads, aid the poor—anything, just please spare my life.”

……

Tears and snot streamed down Zhou Jun’s face, clearly terrified by the immortal’s power.

The man sneered coldly. “If you had thought of this earlier, why did you do such things?”

Suddenly, the lightning in his palm surged violently.

Several arcs of lightning roared through, engulfing Zhou Jun and his servants.

The courtyard echoed with agonizing screams.

These servants had committed countless evils alongside Zhou Jun; their deaths were no loss.

Moments later, their bodies turned to ash.

Zhou You gathered their lingering souls into the thunder pool in his palm.

He said calmly, “Your sins are grave. You shall serve your sentence in my thunder pool for sixty years before reincarnation.”

Hearing this, Zhou Jun and the others’ souls lamented as if bereft of all hope.

Zhou You turned to the dark-skinned little girl and smiled gently. “Don’t worry, all is well now.”

The girl knelt abruptly. “Uncle Immortal, please save my mother.”

He quickly helped her up. “No need for that.”

Approaching the woman, whose breath was faint and weak, he fed her a small black pill.

After a moment, she slowly regained consciousness.

The girl rushed forward. “Mother, it was this immortal uncle who saved you.”

Zhou You withdrew a bottle of ointment from his sleeve. Seeing the bloodied scars on the woman’s face, he spoke softly,

“Madam, this is my refined Radiance Powder. Apply it once daily; within half a month, the scars on your face will vanish.”

The woman held her daughter close. “Thank you for your help, Immortal, but it’s unnecessary. Beauty brings trouble; perhaps without this face, our lives will be more peaceful.”

Zhou You nodded gently, then looked at the dark-skinned girl.

“Little one, would you be willing to become my disciple?”
