Volume 1, Chapter 37: Within Grasp
Sun Yaqin felt a twinge of guilt. "Big brother, please, let me finish! It’s not that I’m giving up the handkerchief business, I’ve just changed my approach."
Sun Yaqin recounted her dealings with Cheng Jun to Sun Liancheng.
She was well aware of the worries her brother harbored, but to her, those concerns were truly trivial and inconsequential.
At this moment, a stranger sat down beside her. He had been observing her for a long time, and seeing that she was now drunk, he finally found his chance to speak.
"So, the young master of Fellow Daoist Dong’s household is actually such a genius." Having just witnessed a similar situation, Liu Chuyi could not forget the feeling, and he immediately realized where the problem lay.
The maidservant saw Xianghe’s face turn pale with fury. She stepped forward and whispered, "Your Highness, if the King finds out about this, I fear he will not let it pass easily. What will you do then?"
Gan Luo sketched the location of Xiejiang Fishing Port on a piece of paper. With a torrential storm expected tonight, no ships would be leaving the harbor.
In this world, specters and ghosts possess no "seven emotions or six desires." However, demons and nightmares, having physical forms, are different from mere spirits.
Bai Han sat on his bed as well, but instead of choosing to cultivate, he focused his mental energy and directed it from his mind into his body.
"Inspector Zuo, the Xue residence has been most hospitable, but I have come here for another matter." Fang Zheng was not surprised by Zuo Zhou’s peculiar attitude.
"To hide our ages. After all, those people from Shrek have already seen us; I’ve already sent word to the others on our way here." As Bai Han spoke, he pulled the black cloak over his shoulders.
Many city officials sat before their televisions, watching the news report. They were so furious they felt as if their lungs were about to explode. Under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of China, how could such a thing happen in broad daylight?
It was A-Feng who had struck first, and the Empress Dowager had merely countered her moves. That was why she was so jubilant after gaining the upper hand; it was, after all, the only time she hadn’t suffered a loss at A-Feng’s hands.
Liu Ya, however, ignored the mockery in Xiao Youfu’s words. "You—what are you doing? Let me go! I am under imperial decree and cannot leave Fengming Palace." Her words were directed at A-Feng.
"Oh my, such a significant event has occurred in your country; naturally, I had to come and express my concern." Zhou Chu laughed, about to offer a few more jibes, when he suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure.
The drivers behind them all fell silent; no one dared to honk their horns again. The owner of a BMW was not someone easily trifled with.
"These are for you," Li Hao said, taking off his clothes and placing them in front of the driver. He then put on the driver’s uniform. It fit quite well. He turned back, flashed a smile at the driver, and walked through the doors of the Feitian Dance Hall.
Lin Hanxi shook her head with a faint smile, thinking to herself: Although the Leng Qingying before her was a princess and inevitably possessed an arrogant and shrewish streak, she was still young and quite extroverted. It would be simple to win her over; as long as one treated her with sincerity, success would surely follow in time.
"If you can't swim, why come swimming at all? You forced me to carry you ashore like a dead pig." Yang Le-fan shifted his tone, a ghostly smile playing on his lips.
The corners of Li Hao’s mouth twitched with a suppressed smile. To think she could come up with such an excuse! Yet, given the circumstances, there was no reason Li Hao could use to extricate himself. This Xie Zhen was truly a bane to men; her seductive arts were potent indeed.
Otherwise, he implied, the old Duke would be an excellent tool to extinguish the flames. If Jiang Ming were dead, the Fourth Princess and the others—including the Eldest Princess A-Feng—would certainly not let the matter rest. Even if Huangfu could produce ironclad proof that Jiang Ming had committed suicide out of fear of punishment, these people would never let it go.
