Chapter Fifteen: But, Mom, Didn’t You Say Dad Died Long Ago?
“Daughter, are you trying to drive me away?” Feng Xiu feigned sadness.
“Father, I will often bring Haochen back to see you,” Bai Yue promised Feng Xiu with a reassuring smile.
Feng Xiu pursed his lips but knew he couldn’t win against the stubborn Bai Yue. If he truly delayed her important matters, the six ancestors in his Demon God Palace would give him a thorough beating.
In truth, even all six ancestors combined were no match for Feng Xiu, a demigod, but Feng Xiu was a good demon who respected elders and cared for the young.
Hoping to see his obedient grandson one last time, Feng Xiu was instead promptly pushed out of the house by Bai Yue and sent straight to the teleportation array.
“Father, don’t forget to completely destroy this teleportation array, or Long Xingyu will notice something’s off.” If it weren’t for System Six’s reminder, she might have forgotten about it.
With a wave of his sleeve, Feng Xiu erased all traces and energy of the teleportation array.
“Farewell, Father, I won’t see you off,” Bai Yue smiled as she bid him goodbye.
Thrown away after use, Feng Xiu left Odin Town with a gloomy expression, tearing through space directly toward Xindu.
He immediately summoned Agales, still indulging in his pleasures, and Vashak, who was observing the celestial phenomena, to help him relieve his frustration.
...
Bai Yue released Bai Qian’s physical form and, through consciousness control, had Little Bear sign a mount contract with Bai Qian.
Bai Yue introduced to Halif: “This is my avatar, Bai Qian. From now on, your avatar will be her mount.”
“However, my spiritual strength isn’t sufficient yet to control both my true body and the avatar simultaneously, otherwise I could have my avatar appear before Haochen and arrange a suitable identity for her,” Bai Yue said regretfully.
Halif chuckled as he shook the bear’s head. “Princess Yue, leave this to old Bear.”
“As long as you authorize me with control over the avatar through the mount contract, I can temporarily operate this avatar.”
Bai Yue’s eyes lit up. This meant she could disguise her avatar with a reasonable identity to accompany Haochen and participate in the demon hunter group selection together.
Growing more excited, Bai Yue eagerly had Halif try it, and to their delight, it succeeded.
Bai Yue looked around anxiously and finally Haochen returned—but unfortunately, an uninvited guest came along as well.
“Mom, I’m back!” Long Haochen called out excitedly to Bai Yue.
---
“Today is the first day of school, and the teacher came for a home visit. Mom, come out quickly!”
Bai Yue stared blankly at the figure and hurriedly asked the system, “Six, I remember in my previous life’s storyline, Long Xingyu wouldn’t come this early!”
“It’s only the first day of school.”
“Didn’t Long Xingyu appear only after Haochen’s knight squire assessment?”
“And we haven’t even brought home a single bottle of the base liquid that cultivates the body!”
[Host, this is an uncontrollable factor resulting from your alteration of the original plot.]
[You should be thankful Feng Xiu, the Demon God Emperor, left early and didn’t meet Long Xingyu; otherwise, things would have gotten really chaotic.]
“At a time like this, you’re still making sarcastic remarks,” Bai Yue retorted irritably.
“What should I do now? Just seeing Long Xingyu’s face makes me nauseous! I don’t want to say a single word to him!”
[It is advised that the host endure this. The best way to get back at a scoundrel is to ruin his reputation so he regrets his actions. So, consider this as enduring Long Xingyu for the sake of the destined child Long Haochen’s future.]
For Haochen’s sake, enduring Long Xingyu didn’t seem so unbearable.
Bai Yue adjusted her expression, recalling how she felt when she reunited with Long Xingyu in her previous life.
Joyful yet conflicted and afraid—this expression was truly impossible to fake.
Bai Yue decided not to wrong herself any longer, lifting her gaze and calmly saying, “Xingyu, you’re here.”
Her tone suggested she had long expected Long Xingyu’s arrival. Long Haochen blinked, his confused gaze flickering between Bai Yue and Teacher Xingyu.
“Mom, did you and Teacher Xingyu know each other already?”
Bai Yue took Long Haochen’s hand and linked it with Long Xingyu’s, then explained, “Haochen, your surname comes from him, and your given name also comes from him.”
“The Holy Alliance, Knight’s Sanctuary Grandmaster, the youngest God-Imprint Knight—Long Xingyu.”
“Before he rose to fame and was recognized by the God-Imprint Throne, his knight title was ‘Dawn,’ which is where your name originates. He is your father.”
“Xingyu, Haochen is your own flesh and blood. He is your son.”
Bai Yue carefully observed Long Xingyu’s expression, seeing pain and inner conflict flash in his eyes. He forced a smile on his otherwise impassive face.
---
He took the initiative to hug Long Haochen, but his body was stiff, showing no joy at the news of becoming a father.
Bai Yue sneered inwardly; she had already guessed that Long Xingyu did not believe Haochen was truly his son.
In her previous life, she had clarified Haochen’s origins multiple times, but Long Xingyu never believed her.
In his heart, Bai Yue was a fickle and unfaithful woman. Even when her father publicly acknowledged in front of everyone on the Sacred Demon Continent that Bai Yue was Feng Xiu’s daughter, Long Xingyu only slapped himself twice, crying that he had misunderstood both her and Haochen, and that’s why he had done those foolish things.
Long Xingyu wept profusely, begging for forgiveness. She, blinded by love, had foolishly believed his words and forgiven him, even persuading Haochen to do the same. Looking back, she was truly foolish.
If she hadn’t trusted Long Xingyu, how could Haochen, with such formidable strength, have been bound by shackles, unable to channel spiritual power, and left helpless like a fish on a chopping block?
However, Long Xingyu still had some use now. His identity as a God-Imprint Knight would serve as Haochen’s best cover until the truth was revealed. As to who would ultimately exploit whom, no one could predict the outcome before the end.
“Dad?” Long Haochen looked at Bai Yue in confusion, then scrutinized Long Xingyu suspiciously, realizing he didn’t resemble Long Xingyu much at all.
“But Mom, didn’t you say Dad died long ago?”
“Before, the neighbor Aunt Wang tried to set you up with someone, and you said you and Dad were deeply in love, so even though he’s been dead for four years, you would remain a widow for five years before considering remarriage.”
“Silly child, that was just an excuse. You know Aunt Wang loves playing matchmaker. If I hadn’t said that, she would have kept trying to find me a match,” Bai Yue hurriedly explained.
Long Xingyu’s face darkened instantly upon hearing that Bai Yue had been telling others he was dead.
Fearing another outburst, Bai Yue pushed Long Haochen forward and urged her son to call him dad quickly.
Son, don’t blame Mom for using you as a shield!
Long Haochen was handsome, inheriting the beauty genes of both Bai Yue and Bai Lingxuan. He hesitantly called out, “Dad.”
This call made Long Xingyu momentarily dazed. He instinctively responded, “Son.”
