Chapter Fourteen: When Giving Gifts, Give Little Bear Cubs

Bai Yue was extremely pleased with Bai Qian’s appearance. She looked nearly identical to her, sharing seventy or eighty percent of her features.
Bai Yue’s soul was not yet strong enough to control two bodies at the same time. According to System Six-Six, she would have to wait until her cultivation reached the eighth rank before she could manage it.
Thus, Bai Yue had no intention of letting Little Haochen meet Bai Qian just yet. There would be plenty of time to develop their relationship later.
“Yue’er, I’ve brought Haochen over.” Feng Xiu pushed open the door and entered the courtyard. After glancing around at the simple surroundings, he drew his brows into a tight frown.
“Yue’er, why must you insist on making life difficult for yourself? It’s bad enough that you’re suffering—why drag Little Haochen into it as well?”
“…”
Bai Yue could not help rolling her eyes. Her father had begun another one of his long-winded speeches, trying to persuade her to return to Heart City.
“Just listen to me and come back to Heart City. Then I won’t have to travel back and forth between Heart City and Odin Town every day just to see my grandson. For the Demon God Emperor to be reduced to this… It’s truly miserable.” Feng Xiu put on an aggrieved expression.
Bai Yue had long since forged a heart of iron and stone. She was not about to be swayed by Feng Xiu’s words.
Ever since she had moved to Odin Town, her father, Demon God Emperor Feng Xiu, had treated the little wooden house there like the Demon God Palace, checking in once every day without fail.
“Father, if you find it troublesome, you don’t have to come. I’ve never forced you to.” Bai Yue waved him away, dismissing him without the slightest hesitation.
Feng Xiu’s handsome face fell. “I’ve decided. Before Little Haochen enrolls, I’ll move the demon clan’s government affairs here and conduct my work from Odin Town.”
“All I need is one clean room. Just put a desk inside.”
He sounded so pitiful that Bai Yue truly had no way to deal with her father. The following day, she cleared out a room and made it Feng Xiu’s office.
Star Demon God Vashak was pressed into service and sent to the tiny town of Odin, where he set up a teleportation array capable of spanning a thousand miles. It was all to make it easier for Black Dragon Commander Huang Shuo to travel between Heart City and Odin Town each day, delivering the demon clan’s confidential documents.
…
Spring passed and autumn came. Two years slipped by in the blink of an eye, and peace and quiet reigned throughout Odin Town.
Bai Yue’s laundry business had grown so successful that everyone in town knew of it. They all praised her clever hands and capable nature. It was a pity, they said, that she was a widow raising a baby all by herself. Fortunately, the little one was well-behaved. Some kindhearted neighbors even tried to introduce men to Bai Yue, thinking that life must be difficult for a single mother raising a child and that she needed someone to share the burden. Bai Yue, however, politely declined every offer.
[Host, the day has finally arrived! The Child of Destiny, Long Haochen, is enrolling in the Odin Sub-Hall of the Knight Temple!]

Six-Six sounded extremely excited. She had been waiting for this day for far too long.
“Father said he would bring a gift back today for Haochen when he enrolled. He’s been gone half the day already—why hasn’t he returned?” Bai Yue was genuinely curious about what treasure Feng Xiu had been talking about.
[Perhaps it’s a divine artifact, or maybe a life-saving scroll or something of the sort?]
Six-Six could only make an uncertain guess. Over the past few years, she had witnessed just how much Feng Xiu doted on the Child of Destiny, Long Haochen. As the spirit born from the Heavenly Dao of The Throne of Seal, she had never imagined that, after Feng Xiu and Long Haochen changed the timeline and met again, they would become so deeply bound to one another.
At first, Feng Xiu’s affection for Long Haochen had been born of his love for Bai Yue. Later, however, he had come to treat the boy with genuine sincerity.
The transformation in their relationship was undoubtedly influenced by Long Haochen’s personal charm. The Child of Destiny possessed a nature of absolute purity and goodness, one capable even of touching the God of Heavenly Punishment. It was easy to imagine, then, what a kind and incorruptible person he was.
“Daughter, come and see what a wonderful gift I brought for Haochen!” Feng Xiu’s voice rang out before he even entered.
Bai Yue stepped out of the room and into the courtyard. The moment she looked over, she saw Feng Xiu holding a bear in his hands. It was small, adorable, and irresistibly cute.
“Father, don’t tell me you intend to give that bear to Haochen as a gift?”
“Haochen isn’t even five years old yet! Is he going to raise the bear, or is the bear going to eat him?” Bai Yue pressed a hand to her forehead. She felt a generation gap opening between herself and her father. She should have asked what he intended to give before letting him go off to prepare a gift.
“Don’t worry. This bear is highly intelligent, and it can fight exceptionally well. With him by Little Haochen’s side, both you and I can rest easy.” Feng Xiu patted the bear’s head.
The little bear spoke in a human voice. “Your Highness Bai Yue, this old bear can take on ten opponents by himself. Even if a Knight of the Throne of Seal came along, I could still knock him flat!”
Bai Yue pointed at the little bear and blinked uncertainly. “Father, you aren’t going to tell me that this bear is Valefor, are you?”
The little bear gave a foolish grin. “Your Highness, this is merely a clone of the old bear. Don’t let its small size fool you—it possesses one-tenth of my spiritual power!”
“If a Knight of the Throne of Seal came looking for trouble, he could spend an entire day and night attacking this clone without breaking through its defenses. What can I say? This old bear has thick skin and a sturdy hide!”
No wonder Father had been gone for half the day. He had gone to find Valefor and ask him to create a clone to protect Haochen.
Valefor kept mentioning Knights of the Throne of Seal. Wasn’t he obviously worried that Long Xingyu might sneak over and try to snatch Haochen away from her?
“When Haochen returns, if he likes you, you may stay,” Bai Yue said slowly.
Valefor finally breathed a sigh of relief. The knot of anxiety in his heart loosened at last. His Majesty had given him a death order: he was to shamelessly cling to the wooden house in Odin Town no matter what. If he failed, his main body would certainly suffer when he returned.
The bear’s survival was no easy matter. He could only sigh and sigh again.

…
Bai Yue dragged Feng Xiu into the house and had him erect a soundproof barrier before she spoke.
“Father, did you send Valefor’s clone here to spy on Haochen and me?”
Seeing the cold expression on his beloved daughter’s face, Feng Xiu hurriedly explained, “I’m only taking precautions. If that scumbag Long Xingyu starts pestering the two of you, I won’t feel at ease unless you have a demon protecting you.”
Bai Yue decided to make herself perfectly clear to Feng Xiu.
“Father, I truly no longer have the slightest feeling for that scumbag Long Xingyu.”
“The reason I brought Haochen to Odin Town and had him study at the Knight Temple is that I don’t want his cultivation talent to go to waste.”
“Besides, this was also the revelation given by the Mother of Destiny’s prophecy.”
Feng Xiu did not know the exact details of Six-Six’s existence, but he could guess at some of the truth.
The Mother of Destiny had been chosen by the spirit of the Heavenly Dao to become the savior of the Sacred Demon Continent. Bai Yue, meanwhile, naturally stood on the side of the demon clan. Thus, once Bai Yue invoked her identity as the Mother of Destiny, Feng Xiu did not stop her from leaving the demon clan and coming to Odin Town.
“I’m only worried that you two won’t have enough strength to protect yourselves. I placed a seal on Valefor’s clone. To anyone looking at him, he’ll appear to be nothing more than a bear-type magical beast. Only when you encounter danger will he break the seal and protect you.”
Feng Xiu gazed openly at Bai Yue, his eyes filled with concern for both his daughter and his grandson.
“All right. The little bear may stay, but you must leave!”
“Father, I have a feeling that Long Xingyu will come looking for us in Odin Town very soon. So after today, don’t come here anymore,” Bai Yue said helplessly.
Six-Six had already issued her a warning. The day when the Child of Destiny would meet Long Xingyu was drawing closer and closer.
Six-Six could not predict the exact date with certainty. The butterfly effect caused by her arrival had created deviations between The Throne of Seal and the original story. In any case, to be safe, her father had better leave as quickly as possible, lest he run into Long Xingyu.
