Chapter 13: Witnessing the Unseen
Just as Leng Yue’er was lost in thought, Wang Chen arrived beside her and gently took her hand.
“Yue’er, why did you come over all of a sudden? You didn’t even give me a heads-up. You must have been waiting long. Come in and rest for a bit.”
With that, Wang Chen opened the door and naturally led Leng Yue’er inside by the hand.
Only after they sat down in the wooden cabin did Leng Yue’er finally regain awareness, and a faint blush suddenly spread across Bai Zhe’s skin.
“Let go of me,” she said.
“Ah, look at me—I got so excited I forgot myself,” Wang Chen chuckled and released her hand. Then he said, “You haven’t eaten yet, have you? Wait here, I’ll make some food.”
Turning, Wang Chen busied himself at the stove.
Leng Yue’er was about to refuse, but seeing Wang Chen so different from before, the words caught in her throat and she couldn’t bring herself to say no.
Before, Wang Chen had been lost in gambling, wandering through each day with a gloomy aura surrounding him.
She had tried to advise him many times but to no avail, and gradually, her heart had grown cold.
But today, seeing him once again full of youthful vigor, a heart she thought had long since died beat anew with life.
Watching Wang Chen bustling at the stove, a faint smile unknowingly curved Leng Yue’er’s lips.
Yet, thinking of his past, a flicker of concern rose in her eyes.
“Are you still going to Yun Yue Workshop now?” she asked.
At the crisp, clear voice, Wang Chen paused briefly, then turned to her with a serious expression.
“No, I’m not going anymore,” he said.
“I won’t go again, not ever.”
“That’s good,” she replied.
Hearing this, a sudden urge to cry welled up inside her.
She was happy that Wang Chen had changed, yet resented him for only doing so now.
But she kept her feelings to herself and silently watched Wang Chen’s busy figure.
No matter what, she hoped for his betterment.
Soon, steaming food and a stack of beast meat were set upon the table.
The meal looked simple, but for the two of them, what mattered was not what they ate, but with whom.
Watching Leng Yue’er eat in small bites, Wang Chen stole a glance at her, then asked, “Why did you come over all of a sudden today? Did something happen?”
He still remembered her words when she left last time, saying she wouldn’t come back.
Yet today she had unexpectedly appeared at his door, and he couldn’t help but worry if something was amiss.
“I’m fine. I just wanted to see you,” she replied.
“Seeing you like this, I feel reassured.”
Leng Yue’er shook her head; even she didn’t know why she had appeared at Wang Chen’s doorstep.
As her wedding date with Qin Cang drew closer, her heart grew restless, so she had to go out for a walk.
Walking aimlessly, she ended up at Wang Chen’s door.
Once here, she didn’t want to leave, just standing quietly outside, staring at the closed door.
She didn’t even knock or intend to see Wang Chen—she only wanted a moment of peace.
By chance, she ran into Wang Chen, just returning home.
Because both had things weighing on their minds, they spoke little, but the atmosphere at the table was far from awkward—it was harmonious.
After the meal, Leng Yue’er took the initiative to clear the dishes and helped tidy the somewhat messy room.
Wang Chen did not stop her but quietly watched her busy form.
At that moment, they truly felt like a couple.
Although Wang Chen’s home was sparse and a bit cluttered, it was soon put in order.
When everything was done, Leng Yue’er looked at Wang Chen and said, “I have to go now.”
“Okay, I’ll see you off,” he replied.
“No need, I can go back on my own.”
She gently shook her head, then gazed intently at Wang Chen’s face as if to imprint his image forever in her mind.
After a long gaze, she turned and walked toward the door.
Wang Chen accompanied her to the entrance, watching her figure gradually fade away.
Throughout, neither mentioned Leng Yue’er’s impending wedding.
To her, the marriage was a done deal; speaking of it would only add unnecessary tension between them, so she chose silence.
As for Wang Chen, the man from his past life had long since lost all credibility; his words were as unreliable as the wind, and no matter what he said now, it felt powerless.
Rather than talk, he would act—he would prove to Leng Yue’er that she belonged only to him.
So, he trained!
Only strength could change everything.
Closing the door, Wang Chen took out a Perfect Qi Gathering Pill and swallowed it.
The night passed quietly, and at dawn, a sharp gleam flashed in Wang Chen’s eyes.
A terrifying aura flickered briefly around him.
“I’ve reached the ninth level of Qi Refinement!” he whispered, opening the system panel.
[Host: Wang Chen]
[Realm: Qi Refinement Level 9 (1%)]
[Body Tempering: Qi Refinement Level 5 (36%)]
[Technique: Lingxi Formula (Proficiency 89%)]
[Spells: Lightness Technique (Proficiency 6%), Fireball Technique (Proficiency 3%), Golden Light Shield (Beginner 52%)]
[Immortal Arts: First-tier Talisman Making (Proficiency 28%)]
In less than half a month, aided by the system’s pills, he had surged from the low second level of Qi Refinement as a scattered cultivator straight to the ninth level, becoming a top-tier expert within that realm.
Such cultivation speed was beyond rapid—it was prodigious.
In the tens of thousands of years of cultivation history, no one had ever advanced so quickly.
Even geniuses with Heavenly Spirit Roots or special constitutions would take years to advance from early to ninth level Qi Refinement.
Ordinary cultivators might need decades.
For someone like Wang Chen, blessed with four Spirit Roots, reaching the seventh level before his lifespan ended would have been a miracle.
To shatter that limit and reach the ninth level in under half a month was unheard of.
All of this was thanks to the system’s aid.
It made Wang Chen realize the pills it provided were far superior to those crafted by any alchemist in the cultivation world.
Otherwise, how could he have traversed the path of Qi Refinement so swiftly?
Especially the Perfect Qi Gathering Pill—he even wondered if anyone in the cultivation world could make such a pill.
Putting his doubts aside, Wang Chen rose to prepare breakfast.
But just then, bang bang bang!
A fierce pounding sounded at the door, accompanied by harsh voices urging, “Open up! Open up! Hurry and open the door!”
