Chapter 8: Oh, Young Maiden
On the other side, Wan Yongwang was still striving to get in touch with Mr. Ziqin.
Chen Fan was the only person around him connected to the author’s circle, but after a night of “efforts,” he had to admit one thing:
“That bastard blocked me too.”
Last night, when he came home and heard Guo Yue’er say that Chen Fan had blocked her, his first reaction was disbelief.
That guy was the top version of Boiling Goat—how could he possibly block Beautiful Goat’s number?
Then Guo Yue’er made a call to Chen Fan right in front of him.
Familiar tones of “line busy” came through, and Wan Yongwang fell silent.
He recalled how boldly he had spoken in front of Director Peng, and the confidence behind his words came from Chen Fan.
He knew very well how capable that kid was. The main reason Guo Yue’er had managed to hold her girlfriend position so far was that she had this incredibly useful and obedient tool attached to her.
Why was Wan Yongwang able to sit in the position of Art Director at such a young age?
Wasn’t it because Guo Yue’er had been freeloading off Chen Fan, an outstanding graduate from Yanjing University of the Arts?
Whatever project role refinement was needed, Wan Yongwang only had to pretend to put on a show in front of Guo Yue’er—like working overtime until his head ached—and Guo Yue’er would immediately feel sorry and without hesitation ask Chen Fan for help.
Then, with Guo Yue’er and Wan Yongwang laughing it off, by the next day they would receive a perfect project role.
Now that Chen Fan had suddenly blocked Guo Yue’er, not to mention Guo Yue’er, even he was dumbfounded!
This had to be fake.
With his mind in chaos, Wan Yongwang chose to avoid the truth and ventled his frustration on Guo Yue’er.
The next morning, upon waking, he remembered he might be able to contact Chen Fan himself. He took out his phone and dialed, but what followed was exactly the same as before.
“Do you know where he lives?”
Guo Yue’er shook her head. She didn’t even know that Chen Fan had blocked her; how would she know where he lived?
“But Chun Jiao should know. Usually, she contacts Chen Fan more often.”
“Ask her out for a meal.”
Wan Yongwang had come to a realization. He was already a director now; whether Chen Fan stayed or left no longer mattered, and besides, he was already tired of Guo Yue’er.
But for now, Chen Fan couldn’t leave. Even if he had to leave, he must first help find Ziqin!
“Alright.”
Guo Yue’er went to make a phone call nearby while Wan Yongwang covered his face and leaned against the sofa.
Why had this kid suddenly come to his senses?
Suddenly, his phone rang. It was the special ringtone he had set.
An important message had arrived.
Wan Yongwang immediately perked up and picked up his phone.
It was Siyi, Ziqin’s editor, sending a message.
“May I ask, are you the representative of Xinghai Company?”
After agreeing to this matter, Wan Yongwang promptly sent an email to Siyi, thinking that others might fail, but maybe his message would hit the mark.
Unexpectedly, the email he sent before leaving work yesterday was followed by a call from Siyi on the phone number he left at 9 p.m.
But the other party only said, “I’m editor Siyi,” and thereafter didn’t respond no matter what he said.
A worthless editor, how arrogant!
Already irritated by the Chen Fan ordeal, Wan Yongwang grew even more frustrated and vented more harshly on Guo Yue’er.
Seeing that Wan Yongwang did not reply, Siyi sent another message:
“I’m here to discuss the 'Flame Emperor' anime adaptation. The contract has been sent to your email. Please check.”
The sudden joy left Wan Yongwang slightly overwhelmed.
Yet, he didn’t forget to reply with a simple “Okay.”
“Awaiting good news.”
“Honey, I’ve spoken with Chun Jiao. She’ll wait for us at Xinxin Plaza first. Shall we just eat at that Japanese restaurant again?”
“You two go ahead. I have to make a trip to the company.”
With that, Wan Yongwang stood up. Although Guo Yue’er was puzzled by his sudden change of plans, she still followed him out.
“Then do I still need to ask where Chen Fan lives?”
“Whatever.”
Siyi had already contacted him; whether Chen Fan was in the picture or not was no longer important.
Wan Yongwang hit the accelerator and drove away. Guo Yue’er wanted to ask him to give her a ride but didn’t get the chance to speak.
Left with no choice, Guo Yue’er called Lü Chun Jiao.
“Come pick me up.”
Soon, a taxi stopped at the gate of the residential complex.
“What’s going on? Didn’t you say you two would eat together with me?”
“He suddenly had something to do.”
Guo Yue’er looked unenthusiastic, and Lü Chun Jiao understood—this was a mission.
Clearing her throat, she held Guo Yue’er’s small hand.
“Oh, she just became an executive at a company. Being busy is normal, isn’t it? In other words, he’s working hard now—all for your future, right?”
Guo Yue’er’s mood suddenly sank even lower, nearly to the point of tears.
Lü Chun Jiao was bewildered. What was going on?
Usually, such words would always work.
“What’s wrong?”
“Chun Jiao, I think Yongwang doesn’t love me anymore.”
“Impossible. He loves you so much. Has he ever denied you pocket money?”
Guo Yue’er shook her head.
“When you said you wanted new clothes or a new bag, did he hesitate?”
Guo Yue’er shook her head again.
“When you said you didn’t want to work, he gently said it was okay, that he could support you. If that doesn’t count as love, then I don’t know what love is.”
Lü Chun Jiao even envied herself.
“Besides, he doesn’t restrict your travel. As long as you report it, you can go anywhere you want. Such a model boyfriend is hard to find even with a lantern.”
“Then why is it that when I ask him to marry me, he either changes the subject or stays silent?”
Ah, so it was this.
Lü Chun Jiao looked at Guo Yue’er with a complex expression and sighed deeply inside.
Because Chen Fan was still chasing after her behind the scenes, Guo Yue’er still believed in love.
But the situation between her and Wan Yongwang—did it require an outsider like her to say more?
When you first hooked up with him, was it really for love?
Now that he has money, you long for love again...
Oh, young girl, this is nothing but a legitimate flesh trade. If you don’t seize the chance to gain more while you’re young, what will you do later with your intelligence?
Lü Chun Jiao was clear about this and knew Guo Yue’er was too, but she was unwilling to admit it. Yet she certainly couldn’t say it out loud.
“He’s just busy. Wait until he has some free time and then ask again. Maybe the answer will change.”
“Mmm...”
Love or no love can be felt, especially by someone like Guo Yue’er.
With Chen Fan as a shining example—not a mere admirer but, at this moment, it was more fitting to call him devoted and affectionate—how could Guo Yue’er not sense Wan Yongwang’s recent indifference?
She just didn’t want to, or dare to, think in that direction.
If only Chen Fan were here.
Whenever she felt wronged, Chen Fan would come rushing to comfort her no matter what.
At the thought, Guo Yue’er finally couldn’t hold it in and burst into tears.
“All right, I’m buying today. Eat as much as you want and let all your frustrations out!”
Lü Chun Jiao quickly comforted her.
What a little darling.
At Xinxin Plaza, Lü Chun Jiao helped Guo Yue’er out of the car.
“Come on, my young lady. I’ve ordered two set meals. Today, you’ll definitely eat your fill.”
“Hmm.”
Guo Yue’er’s voice was still a bit dull, but at least she was no longer crying.
The two walked together toward the mall, whose doors were opening.
