Chapter 50: Love-Struck Mind

Beijing, Yanjing University of the Arts, basketball gymnasium.
“Brother Meng, that gorgeous beauty is here looking for you again.”
“Woo woo~”
The young men on the basketball team erupted in playful teasing.
“Brother Meng, if you ask me, you should just give in.”
“Exactly, Brother Meng. If it were me, I wouldn’t even need two days. The moment she comes looking for me, I’d already be hooked.”
“Just a shallow guy, falling for looks.”
“Sounds like you don’t care about appearances at all.”
“No, don’t you all check out a beauty’s legs first?”
“Bro, great minds think alike.”
“Nonsense, checking out the chest is the real way.”
“Shut up!”
Meng Wei quickly put a stop to their off-topic banter.
“Looks like my usual training for you guys has been too easy. Captain leads the run—ten laps around the gym.”
The group groaned in unison.
But under Meng Wei’s watchful gaze, they reluctantly started running.
Meng Wei stood aside, observing, seemingly with no intention of going out to find Zhou Xuejing.
“Hmm~ So you’re the basketball coach after all. Even in an arts college, there are sports students?”
He didn’t go out, but Zhou Xuejing would come in on her own; the gym didn’t have any rules barring visitors.
Miss Zhou wasn’t the type to wait around endlessly... except when waiting for Peng Jiaxin.
“…There are quite a few sports students in our school.”
“Really? So you were a sports student before?”
As she spoke, Zhou Xuejing handed him a bottle of mineral water.
Meng Wei kept his head stiffly turned away, refusing to look aside.
Bai Yuming had already warned him—women of this caliber were beyond his grasp (he suggested pushing her onto Bai Yuming). A wealthy young lady like this meeting a good-looking but honest man like him was purely a thrill of the chase.
It was the same logic as a player chasing women; even a sea queen would pursue a handsome man, but once caught, interest would fade within two months, ending abruptly and leaving Meng Wei alone in sorrow.
Chen Fan thought Bai Yuming’s words were a bit exaggerated, while Su Shaoming stayed silent, probably studying.
But Bai Yuming insisted:
“Trust me, I’ve seen plenty of women like this. Be careful, Meng Wei. Don’t end up used and discarded, with her moving on effortlessly to the next, while you’re heartbroken for years, still not over it.”
Bai Yuming grew increasingly despondent, and Chen Fan and the others finally sensed something off.

This guy…
Could he be telling his life story?
“Anyway, just trust me!”
After saying that, Bai Yuming signed off and went silent.
Meng Wei knew not to generalize people, but caution was always wise.
He vowed to follow Teacher Bai’s advice!
“Come on, catch it! My arm’s tired.”
“Oh, sorry.”
Meng Wei hurriedly reached out to take the water, but no matter how he searched, he couldn’t feel anything. Frustrated, he turned his head.
Zhou Xuejing smiled brightly at him.
“Finally willing to look my way. Here, your water.”
“…Thanks.”
After that, Meng Wei fell silent again.
“Ugh… I’m so pitiful. I traveled thousands of miles to meet my online boyfriend, but all I’ve found is a man like this. Now I’m all alone in Beijing, and my hand is swollen up…”
Zhou Xuejing had initially planned to play the pitiful card to catch Meng Wei’s attention, but the more she spoke, the more she felt wronged, until tears welled up.
Meng Wei panicked, waving his large hands up and down, his mouth opening and closing as if wanting to comfort her, but unsure how.
“Wah wah wah… I’m just a woman no one wants.”
“That’s not true. You’re so beautiful, how could no one want you?”
“What good is being beautiful? The men I meet are all like that—none of them truly love me. They only think about getting me into bed right after dating, nothing else on their minds.”
“Not all men are like that.”
“Really?”
Zhou Xuejing stopped crying, looking up at Meng Wei with watery eyes.
“Are there really men like that?”
“There are. I have a good brother who’s like that.”
“……”
Zhou Xuejing’s mood nearly collapsed. She had poured her heart out, and he praised another man?
“And what about you?”
“Me?”
Meng Wei glanced at the pitiable Zhou Xuejing and swallowed hard.
“Um, would you want me?”

Such a simple question almost caused Meng Wei’s brain to overheat.
Are girls nowadays really this straightforward?
“Wah wah wah, see, I’m really a woman no one loves or cares for.”
Seeing Zhou Xuejing on the verge of tears again, Meng Wei didn’t care about being deceived or not; he quickly agreed.
“I want you!”
Meng Wei gently wiped away her tears. He couldn’t stand seeing a woman cry.
“I don’t usually meddle much, but the day I saw you, I don’t know why my body just wouldn’t stop moving.”
“Ahem... Anyway, let’s officially get to know each other. I’m Meng Wei, a physical education teacher and basketball coach at Yanjing University of the Arts. My monthly salary totals about 13,000 yuan, plus some scattered bonuses that bring it up to around 15,000. I’m from Dongcheng, no car or house in my name, currently renting on my own.”
“Though you might not believe it, I’ve never been in a relationship before.”
The stereotype of sports students being tall, handsome guys surrounded by women was well known.
Zhou Xuejing was baffled by Meng Wei’s sudden confession and revelation of his background.
“What are you doing?”
Meng Wei’s cheeks flushed so red that even with his naturally darker skin, Zhou Xuejing could tell.
“I... I think if we’re going to start dating, we ought to start by getting to know each other.”
“Pfft...”
Zhou Xuejing couldn’t help but laugh.
“Sorry, you’re just too earnest, I can’t hold it in.”
Hearing her laughter, Meng Wei’s eyes dimmed slightly. Just as Old Bai said, this woman was just here to amuse herself.
“But I think what you said makes a lot of sense.”
After a while, Zhou Xuejing wiped her tears, coughed lightly, stepped forward, and extended her hand.
“My name is Zhou Xuejing, from the Zhou family of Su City. I’m currently self-employed. Maybe you can tell, but my family is somewhat wealthy. So even when we go shopping, you don’t need to worry about me splurging your money away.”
“My past relationships were mostly online romances. We chatted well, but every time I met them in person, I realized these guys were all liars.”
She paused, seeming to recall bitter experiences with a clenched jaw.
“How can some chubby guy over 200 pounds claim he’s 180 cm tall with eight-pack abs?”
“……”
Hmm, I guess it’s clear you’re a hopeless romantic.
