Chapter 37: The Female CEO
"Why is there a concave dimple between the waist and the hips?"
Lu Xing was utterly baffled by Xiao Yu’s physique. Though he didn't understand it, it was undeniably beautiful. Despite failing to break the spell of her allure, the sheer aesthetic pleasure managed to suppress his inner restlessness. He made an excuse for himself: it was only natural for a young man to feel a surge of blood when faced with a beauty like Xiao Yu. Besides, he hadn't actually done anything.
Once he had calmed down, Lu Xing searched through Xiao Yu’s extensive wardrobe for the day's outfit. Following his own aesthetic sense, he dressed her fine form in a blue blouse paired with a white skirt. Since Annie had an abundance of jewelry, Lu Xing, now somewhat influenced, adorned Xiao Yu’s fair face with a pair of pearl earrings. Unable to manage a complex hairstyle, he simply pulled her hair back with a headband.
Finished, he stood before the mirror once more to admire her. The once flawless, snow-white silhouette had transformed into a sunny, radiant beauty. Lu Xing smiled at the mirror—the reflection was brilliant and charming, truly the height of perfection!
"How is my taste?" Lu Xing confidently snapped a photo in the mirror and sent it to her.
Xiao Yu, who hadn't started her classes yet, replied quickly: "It's alright. I didn't expect you to actually wear a skirt... though the hairstyle is a bit strange, and you didn't put on any makeup."
"Isn't a natural look fine? You look beautiful even without makeup."
"Thanks for the compliment, but natural isn't enough. At least apply some foundation for me!"
"What a hassle, and I don't know how."
"Don't act coy... I know you don't. Just wait for my assistant; let her do it for you."
Lu Xing saw the first half of her message, but he merely smiled and didn't reply. The more they talked, the more awkward it would certainly get, much like when Xiao Yu had seen his "bull" that morning.
Xiao Yu sent another message: "Go downstairs and have breakfast; the housekeeper should have it ready. When my assistant and secretary arrive, have them brief you on today's work. If there's anything you don't understand, contact me."
"OK. You should go to the cafeteria for breakfast, or I can have my secretary send you something."
"No need, that's not my secretary's job. And as for me sending you breakfast... never mind, I don't want to talk about it. We'll discuss it when we meet."
Xiao Yu ended the conversation there. Just as Lu Xing thought that was it, she sent one more message: "I already ate. After all, you get hungry so fast!"
Lu Xing chuckled and didn't reply, simply sending a laughing emoji. He also noticed that Xiao Yu’s phone was pitifully lacking in stickers—there were only the system defaults, with none saved by her.
She had quite a few contacts, but Lu Xing ignored the messages from others and didn't even bother to open them.
Downstairs, the housekeeper had indeed prepared breakfast, laid out on the luxurious dining table. Lu Xing took a look: the spread was modest—a single dessert pastry, half a sweet corn cob, an egg, a plate of sliced fruit, and a glass of warm milk. Seeing him come down, the housekeeper went to the kitchen and brought out a small bowl of coarse grain porridge.
"Is this how such a great figure is maintained?" To Lu Xing’s appetite, this wasn't nearly enough. Yet, after gnawing on the half-cob of corn, he was surprisingly half-full.
*Ding-dong.*
The doorbell rang. Before Lu Xing could move, the housekeeper said, "That must be the secretary and assistant, I’ll go open it," and hurried to the door.
"Morning, President Xiao."
"Morning, Boss."
The secretary and assistant walked in and greeted him. Lu Xing looked at them; Xiao Yu had already introduced them. The secretary, Sun Ying, was a subordinate from her time working abroad whom she had brought back with her; she was very meticulous. The assistant, Zhang Biman, had been introduced to her after she returned to China and had a more cheerful personality. Besides them, Xiao Yu had two other assistants, two bodyguards, and a driver, but their work was managed by Sun Ying and Zhang Biman, so Xiao Yu hadn't elaborated on them.
"Morning." Lu Xing, growing accustomed to the role, nodded at them: "Sit down. Have you had breakfast? If not, join me."
"Thank you, President Xiao, we’ve already eaten!"
Seeing the secretary holding documents, Lu Xing guessed this was Xiao Yu’s instruction from the night before and said with a smile, "Then sit down and brief me on today's work."
"Certainly, President Xiao." Secretary Sun sat opposite him, while the assistant listened in.
"Today, you have meetings with three startups to discuss potential investments. Also, there’s a meeting this morning regarding the fund allocation of Haotian Technology; we need to decide whom to send to audit their finances... After work this afternoon, you have a dinner appointment with Mr. Lu Xing. I will try my best to remind you before 5:30."
"..."
Hearing his own name, Lu Xing almost didn't react in time. A moment later, he nodded with a smile: "Right, follow Xiao Yu’s—oh, I mean, follow the schedule as planned."
The secretary brought out three folders: "These are the materials you asked me to compile. They include background checks on the three entrepreneurs, their enterprise development, and estimates on personnel, assets, and revenue. President Xiao, would you like to review them now, or shall we look at them in the car? Or I could give you a brief summary."
"Leave them for now." Lu Xing wiped his mouth with a napkin and beckoned to the young assistant: "Xiao Man, come upstairs with me and help me with my makeup."
"Huh? Makeup? I only know how to do simple makeup. Should I call a professional makeup artist?"
"No need, simple is fine."
"Oh, okay... Boss, what kind of look are you going for?"
Zhang Biman followed Lu Xing upstairs to the second floor. She had actually been quite curious about the second floor of this duplex; she had never been up here before, but today the boss had called her up, using makeup as an excuse. If the boss weren't a woman, she might have suspected some sort of ulterior motive...
"Just do a look that suits this outfit. Keep it as light as possible."
Lu Xing sat before the vanity mirror, letting the young assistant apply makeup to his face. Having been served by a group of maids, Lu Xing was now accustomed to this sort of scene.
When the makeup was done, Zhang Biman admired her handiwork and couldn't help but add, "Actually, Boss, your outfit is very stylish. A straw hat would make it look even more refreshing, but since we're going to work, we'll skip it."
Lu Xing nodded. After a quick trip to the restroom, he headed downstairs with the assistant.
The three of them left together. The lobby was where the elevator was; it was a two-elevator, one-apartment floor, and the elevator arrived quickly. Without Lu Xing needing to press anything, Zhang Biman had already briskly pressed the button for the basement.
Once they reached the underground garage, the two women held the elevator door for Lu Xing, following closely after he stepped out. Xiao Yu’s luxury car was not far from the elevator; the driver and bodyguards were already waiting. Lu Xing walked to the back seat of the star-roofed luxury sedan, the driver opened the door for him, and Zhang Biman held the top of the door frame to ensure "President Xiao" wouldn't bump her head.
Lu Xing sat steadily in the back seat. The spacious interior allowed him—or rather, allowed Xiao Yu’s long, elegant legs—to stretch out almost completely. Once he was settled, the driver started the car, turned the wheel, and pulled the luxury vehicle out of the parking space.
The BMW carrying the secretary, assistant, and bodyguards led the way, and the two cars pulled out of the garage together. Sitting inside, Lu Xing deeply felt the grandeur of traveling as a wealthy, beautiful socialite like Xiao Yu!
